This home is the best of both worlds – a traditional cottage fully equipped with modern appliances. With both an outdoor BBQ grill and a real working fireplace inside, it’s an ideal rural retreat in any season. The only noise disturbance is from birdsong, and maybe the odd tractor. The house is perfect for large groups of up to 15 guests, with ample space in the dining room when booked together with the cottage. We're happy to say that the home's living quarters are just as romantic, with wooden walls, floors and ceilings lending the feel of an Alpine ski chalet, and the fireplace only adding to this sense of cosiness. The French doors bring in plentiful amounts of natural light and also have the added benefit of looking out to the private garden, which even features a waterfall.

When the weather permits, it's easy to pass hours out in the open air thanks to the seating on the covered terrace and the barbecue ready and waiting for summer feasts. You're also spoilt for choice when it comes to nearby locations for bracing rambles, as the home sits on the edge of the Shropshire Hills AONB. Stokesay Castle is five minutes' drive down the road, while the charming country town of Church Stretton is ten minutes in the other direction.

This beautifully renovated barn is situated in a stunning, secluded position on the edge of Long Itchington village in Warwickshire. Guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of the surrounding farmland from all aspects of the property. The village's pond and green are within walking distance, where visitors can find a pub for local beer and good food. The barn sleeps eight guests (maximum six adults) and features four bedrooms, including one en-suite bathroom, two en-suite shower rooms, and one family shower room. A walled, gravelled courtyard with a slate patio and lawned areas offers a relaxing outdoor space for guests to unwind. Families with children are welcome, with a travel cot, high chair, and stairgate available upon request. Parking for up to four vehicles is available, and there is WiFi throughout the property. A minimum three-night stay is required.

With the Handsworth Community Park just across the road, there’s a quiet serenity to your location here that’s matched in the calming colours and laid-back decor inside the home. From the deep blue feature wall to the wood floors and characterful art prints and ornaments decking the walls, the main living space is soothing and cosy whether you’re enjoying your morning coffee by the Juliet balcony or curling up on the sofa with your favourite Netflix show. If you would rather unplug, the free-standing rolltop bathtub is a particular highlight, accompanied by a selection of luxury toiletries for your pleasure. Though set in a private fourteen-acre estate, this country cottage is within easy distance of local amenities. The historic hamlet of Market Harborough is just a ten-minute drive away, where you'll find a host of independent shops and traditional British eateries. Stop off at the Haddon Fields on your way back and enjoy a gentle stroll through the woodland. Once you've worked up an appetite, return to your dovecot digs in time to soak up the last of the day's light with an al fresco meal on the terrace.

Spend your days exploring the area – the city of Ludlow is only a short ten-minute drive away and boasts a castle and charming market, and there are plenty of hiking trails through the hills to add to the itinerary. When you arrive back home, run a bath fed from the local spring and put together a meal in the sociable kitchen. There's even a private cobbled courtyard to sit out in on warm evenings. If you're lucky, you'll catch sight of the swifts and swallows that nest in the area.

This home in the heart of Chester is full of thoughtful touches like fresh flowers, a breakfast hamper, books and board games for the children, and even yoga mats and blocks should you feel the urge to ‘om’ while staying here. From the peace and quiet of the street, you’d never guess you were just a two-minute walk from Chester’s historic centre. Almost all the town's biggest sights are within walking distance in fact – you’re minutes from Grosvenor Park, the River Dee, Chester Racecourse, and the Roman Amphitheatre. Built in the 19th century, the house has been fully renovated and has a bright, fresh feel to it that is instantly welcoming. Decorated in refreshing whites, there are bright splashes of orange, green, and yellow to greet you in the morning. And after a day of sightseeing, the courtyard garden is a suntrap and the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing drink or reviving cup of tea.

Dating back to the 19th century, this barn in the White Peak area of the Peak District has ben given a new lease of life in recent years. No longer used for farmyard storage, it's now a country getaway full of luxurious touches.

Save for the sections of exposed stonework, you wouldn't be able to guess this home's true age. The design is contemporary but definitely rustic in flavour, with bare floorboards, artfully weathered wooden furnishings and a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove that's the ideal companion to return to after a long bout in the great outdoors. The svelte rolltop bathtub upstairs is another way to get toasty and warm, too.

Kick off muddy boots in the handy porch area and make your way inside to discover an immaculate home marrying characterful features with contemporary styling. Large, roaring fireplaces, exposed stone walls, and flagstone floors bring all the charm. While a smart, shaker-style kitchen, and upstairs, a deep, freestanding bath and quality king-sized bed, add a dash of luxury.

The spacious living room is the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring, and the fully-equipped kitchen is ideal for whipping up a home-cooked meal. This grade II listed Georgian House in Ludlow is everything we look for in a quiet village getaway. Rebuilt and lived in by former glove makers from the late 1600s, this home is steeped in history, dating back to the Civil War – and doesn't it show. There are heaps of original features to these cosy digs. We especially love the handmade oak doors, wood beam ceilings and intricate fireplace that have been professionally restored by master craftsmen. While these period features add interest, the comfy living room is our favourite spot, with its realistic optimyst stove and large L-shaped sofa. Toast up those toes in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of wine in hand – you'll feel all warm and homely in no time at all. Step outside of this 17th-century building and explore one of the loveliest market towns in England that's positively brimming with listed buildings, medieval castles and striking churches. Take a short twelve-minute walk up Corve Street to the town centre and explore this historic place for yourself.

This medieval house is one of the oldest in Stratford-upon-Avon, but the way the host has decorated it marries the new interiors perfectly with the original structure. The slanted walls, wooden panels, and beautiful tiles wouldn’t seem out of place in a Lewis Carroll novel, which for a house with as much history as this, feels pretty apt. It doesn't surprise us that the unique home was chosen as a filming spot for the BBC One show Shakespeare & Hathaway.

We can't decide on a favourite feature – torn between the beam-ceilinged bedrooms, the boutique-style bathrooms, the wall painting from the 1600s, and the location in the very middle of this historic town. The high street, with its Shakespeare museums and old-timely pubs, is just a five-minute walk away. There’s still plenty else for you to discover yourself, as in a house like this there's no shortage of nooks and crannies.

Right in the heart of Leamington Spa, this period apartment has been styled to perfection by a host who clearly cares about this space. With its own front door, it's on the ground floor and boasts high ceilings and tall sash windows. But the most striking thing about this luxurious home has to be the curated art (much of it picked up during the host's travels in Asia and North Africa), collections of books and the vast array of house plants. There's a contemporary kitchen and a designer dining table to eat, drink and be merry together, as well as two comfy bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Just a few minutes walk from the High Street, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to bars, restaurants and pubs nearby, and by day you can explore the town's pretty Regency streets, award-winning parks and independent shopping scene.

The medieval town of Shrewsbury is the truly historic heart of Shropshire, with nearly 700 listed buildings in a town of just over 70,000 people. With such a striking skyline and such fine examples of 15th-century construction techniques, it’s no surprise that your home is another architectural marvel. This terraced house has been completely refurbished in a superbly modern fashion. Our favourite spot has to be the bright and airy open-plan living space. With its wonderful bi-folding doors, this clever design essentially removes the wall between your home and your south-facing courtyard garden (perfect for the unpredictable English weather). Mid-century furniture looks stylish in the lounge, while the roll-top tub up in the master en-suite brings a vintage edge to proceedings. For more on local history, take a stroll through town to reach Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery in just eighteen minutes. Another fantastic walk is along the River Severn. Your home is just three minutes from the riverbank, from where you can follow it all the way across the border to Wales. It’s definitely one for experienced hikers with a strong pair of boots though, at just over ten miles away.

The house is just a five-minute walk from the centre of Bridgnorth and the train station. You’ll be perfectly positioned to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ironbridge and the Royal Air Force Museum, and you can explore historic Shrewsbury and the Shropshire Hills. You’ll love the fireplace in chilly weather, and the pretty courtyard garden when it’s warmer. Bedroom three is suitable for children, as it’s set up with a single day-bed with a pull-out underneath.
