If you’re looking to enjoy Southwold, you’ll be perfectly positioned – just an eight-minute walk from the popular pier and sandy beach. Spend mornings getting tea or coffee in town before strolling along the shore on the promenade. There’s plenty of footpaths across the marshes to lead you around the less travelled parts of town too if you’re craving scenic adventure. Then return home to your lovely cottage, which brings the carefree spirit of the seaside into its effortlessly chic décor. We love the roomy sage-coloured kitchen, ideal for preparing home-cooked meals for the whole family to enjoy at the large wooden table. Then let the kids run around the grassy lawn, or settle in the bright living area with your holiday reads and a board game. The light wood parquet flooring and stylish modern light fixtures make this classic cottage feel contemporary and cool, even in a place as charmingly constant as Southwold. 

Brine and Sand

Find yourself ideally set between the golden sandy dunes of Gun Hill Beach and Southwold’s beautiful marshes, just a four-minute walk from the beach and a stones’ throw to the town’s centre. Wake up, perhaps early enough to catch the sunrise, and enjoy the fresh seaside air. Then wander back home from the beach to your beautiful wooden home, where you can enjoy a breakfast spread and coffee alfresco with grassy views. Slide back the large glass doors and settle in the bright living area – it’s a sociable space that opens onto the dining area and modern kitchen. Tucked downstairs is a games room, where you’ll find tonnes of entertainment including table tennis and pool, board games and a Playstation. When you’re not hanging out on the lawn, barbecuing as the sun sets, you can challenge family and friends to the tournament of your choice. As for exploring, Southwold Pier is a twenty-minute walk away, while The Denes Beach is just four minutes from home. The town is somewhere in between the two, a fifteen-minute walk away, offering tea shops, pubs and delectable fish & chip shops that complete this authentic coastal retreat.

Bird's Foot

This Georgian cottage brings all the genteel charm to match its picturesque Suffolk setting. Nestled in the seaside town of Southwold, you’re just moments from its sandy beach and bustling high street. Dating back to 1740, exposed timbers, cast iron fireplaces, and an original winder staircase show the bones of its past. Whilst chic all-white interiors, clean uncluttered spaces, and beautifully modernised bathrooms keep things fresh and current. A home to enjoy whatever the season – there’s a cosy lounge and open fire for winter months, and a pretty and secluded courtyard garden complete with a barbecue for making the most of sunnier days. With everything on your doorstep, you’ll find there’s no need for a car. Grab your bucket and shades and take a stroll down to Southwold Beach with its beach-lined promenade and pier, all just five minutes on foot – stopping off at the local bakery for picnic supplies first. And when tummies start to rumble, there’s fish and chips aplenty and many a local pub all within walking distance on the high street. With sands, sea and glorious surroundings, this is the British seaside at its best.

Postcard From Southwold

perfect base to enjoy the Suffolk coastline. Take a five minute walk to the pier, shops and chippies of Southwold’s promenade or grab an ice cream from the fantastic shop across the road – if you don't have an ice cream in hand, you're not doing Southwold right. Or spend the day on Southwold Beach, also a five-minute stroll, while a nearby footpath takes you down to the harbour (around a twenty-minute walk), where you can get a foot ferry to Walberswick. Later, relax in the enclosed outdoor courtyard, back at this lovely home. We love the pretty shutters and the shelves full of books here. For the autumn and winter months there are three wood-burning stoves, while two separate reception rooms with sofas and TVs will ensure there’s no squabbling over what movie to watch. It’s a great spot for a family party or festive trip, especially for those who love to cook thanks to its Rangemaster with two ovens. So, why not cook up a feast with some local Suffolk produce for your loved ones.

Mine's A Triple Scoop

Found across an adorable footbridge, this home mixes unique design features with modern comforts. The open-plan dining area is ideal for a gathering of friends or family, and the sleek kitchen suits a chef who wants to socialise as they cook for their loved ones. Downstairs, doors lead out onto the patio, which is perfect for alfresco dining and drinks. The wide windows on the ground floor also show off views of the outside greenery. Let the resident cook have a break and grab the catch of the day from a nearby fish and chips takeaway. 

Southwold town and its sandy beaches are just a two-minute walk away, so you'll have the coast to explore and the sea right on your doorstep. On sunny days, head to the historic pier and crazy golf course, and cool off at Adnams Brewery, an eight-minute stroll away with a tour and tastings (a siesta back in the home is highly recommended after this). You can also explore this region of Suffolk by boat - hop on the ferry to pretty Walberswick village – a fifteen-minute drive away, or hire a boat and take in that salty sea air.

Row Your Boat

Face the sea from this beautiful flat housed in an Edwardian building once bombed during World War Two. Thankfully, the building was lovingly restored, and today you can admire the handsome interiors of this stay – a wonderfully balanced combination of antique furnishings and modern comforts that make this bright home sing. The large sitting area is the perfect spot to unwind overlooking the ocean, while the sleek kitchen and charming eat-in dining table is ideal for preparing meals at home. We love the use of blue and white throughout the space that gives the home its subtle nautical feel. Plus, you’ll be two minutes from the iconic Sole Bay Inn, a great little seaside pub. The eccentric Southwold Pier and beach is just a five-minute walk away, and the ice cream shops, bakeries and cafes of the town are right on your doorstep. 

Pier Place

Set just a few minutes’ walk from the beach in Southwold, this gorgeous home is a welcoming base for a family or group of friends looking to explore the beautiful Suffollk coastline. Whitewashed walls and soft coastal tones offer the feel of a calming seaside retreat while large skylights and floor-to-ceiling doors opening up to the garden let an abundance of light into the open-plan living and dining area. Contemporary furnishings with a nod to quintessential English style make each room warm and inviting and plenty of storage provides extra convenience for long stays. There’s plenty to see and do within a short walk or drive from the home including a weekly market, great local pubs, boutiques and fish and chip shops and fun day trips can be spent roaming through the nearby Suffolk Coast and Heath AONB, hopping on the foot ferry to the dunes at Walberswick, venturing further inland for a hike or exploring the diverse surroundings on one of the many cycling paths. 

Light And Air

Stay a stone's throw from the high street in the popular seaside town of Southwold. This lovely light-filled home offers an unconventional layout, providing plenty of separation between the spaces, making it ideal for a multi-generational family holiday or a coastal get-together for a couple of families.

As a former malt house, the Grade II-listed home offers an eye-catching blend of ancient exposed beams, soaring vaulted ceilings and open communal spaces that lend themselves very well to modern living. A spacious kitchen provides direct access to a suntrap patio out back – perfect for summer barbecues – while the expansive living and dining area on the first floor is a stunning social space. Bedrooms are secluded away in separate wings of the house, so a quiet moment is never more than a closed door away.

Step outside and the town centre is just a couple of minutes away on foot, with an enticing array of independent shops, charming cafes, welcoming pubs and innovative restaurants lining the streets. Southwold's seaside promenade is a little over five minutes from your front door, which is perfect for contemplative moments gazing out to sea. Elsewhere the Common is ideal for walks with four-legged family members, with a footpath leading all the way to Southwold Harbour (just over a mile away) for access to the foot ferry (summer only) over to Walberswick.

Malt Miller

With plenty of space for the whole family as well as your four-legged friend, this Victorian-period property in the seaside town of Southwold feels just like home, but with bells on. We love the light-filled, farmhouse-style kitchen as well as the cosy sitting room – perfect for unwinding after a day chasing the waves. There's also a beautiful snug – ideal for quiet time with a good book or for those needing to catch up on a little work – not to mention a gorgeous garden. You’ll find this home has something for everyone. 

And then of course there's the summer house, barbecue and ping-pong table it’s got hiding up its sleeve. In the warmer months, you’ll love soaking up the rays in the summer house, taking tea in the garden and dining alfresco en famille, while at chillier times of year nothing could be toastier than putting your feet up in front of the wood-burning stove. 

Nestled at the heart of Southwold, only a five-minute walk from both the hustle and bustle of the high street and the sandy shores of the beach, you’ll be well placed to explore all that this charming coastal town has to offer on foot. Mooch around the marketplace, get in on some fish and chips or wander down to the harbour, before passing by the pier and the pastel-coloured beach huts. Whatever you do, don’t forget to look in on the lighthouse.


Blow Away the Cobwebs

The ironic thing about trying to choose somewhere to stay in a location like Southwold is the strong likelihood that you'll be spending the bulk of your time outside exploring the natural riches of the Suffolk coastline. However, this marvellous address offers plenty of incentives to hunker down at home.

When the weather's on your side, you'll want to make full use of the charming outdoor space, which has its alfresco dining table and barbecue for outdoor banquets, as well as the summer house complete with a games room to keep youngsters – as well as not-so-youngsters – entertained.

There's plenty to like in the main house, too. The large glass doors and windows flood the interior with natural light and this dances pleasingly off the smart parquet flooring. We like that the design is pared-back but doesn't look neglected in any way – in fact, the white walls, sleek kitchen surfaces and equally glossy bathrooms all score high on the style stakes.

As mentioned at the start, there's a wealth of spots to explore in the local area. First and foremost is Southwold Beach and Pier, which both take under ten minutes to reach on foot. There are nature reserves and walking routes to discover in the surrounding Suffolk Coasts & Heath AONB, as well as the Southwold Maize Maze only five minutes' drive away.

Sunday Best

The picturesque village of Southwold sits on The Suffolk Coast and Heaths, one of only forty-six regions in the country officially labelled an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. We think the best way to discover this exceptionally beautiful landscape, is to stay in an exceptionally beautiful home. On a street of candy-colored cottages, an eight-minute walk from Southwold Pier, your home is painted in a dreamy pale blue, with terracotta roof tiles, and a cute white door beckoning you inside. Built in 1850, you’ll love the original features like exposed wooden beams, a winding staircase, and wood-burning fireplace in the lounge. We think this is the perfect spot to settle down on the sofa, crack open a bottle of fizz, and say cheers to the start of your holiday. Another option would be sipping champagne in the luxurious freestanding tub, or taking celebrations out to your private patio on a sunny afternoon. When you get peckish, take a wander to your nearest chippie, three minutes away. Protect your portion of fish and chips from the seagulls as you stroll one minute down to the promenade and take in the fresh air from the North Sea.

Pale Blue Gull

If it's proximity to the beach you're after, you're not going to get much better than this apartment. It takes all of a minute to walk to reach the sands of Southwold Beach, famous for its pastel-coloured huts and pier. You can get a sense of this coastal location without even leaving the flat. Simply step out onto the balcony and gaze out over the rooftops to see the town's lighthouse standing proud. There's seating out here and as is often the case with the seaside, watching the sky change colour at the end of the day can be particularly dramatic. Back inside, the home benefits from high ceilings, a period fireplace and a big bay window in the master bedroom, but a recent renovation has modernised the space in unshowy fashion — we're fans of the soothing colour scheme, the smart tiling in the bathrooms and the pair of pared-back chandeliers in the main living area. Simple, but effective.
