This 17th-century listed cottage overlooks the green in the pretty village of Westleton. Full of character, this home retains its original brick floor downstairs and its inglenook fireplace. We think the best way to discover this exceptionally beautiful landscape, is to stay in an exceptionally beautiful home. On a street of candy-colored cottages, an eight-minute walk from Southwold Pier, your home is painted in a dreamy pale blue, with terracotta roof tiles, and a cute white door beckoning you inside. Built in 1850, you’ll love the original features like exposed wooden beams, a winding staircase, and wood-burning fireplace in the lounge. We think this is the perfect spot to settle down on the sofa, crack open a bottle of fizz, and say cheers to the start of your holiday. Another option would be sipping champagne in the luxurious freestanding tub, or taking celebrations out to your private patio on a sunny afternoon. When you get peckish, take a wander to your nearest chippie, three minutes away. Protect your portion of fish and chips from the seagulls as you stroll one minute down to the promenade and take in the fresh air from the North Sea.

Appearing in the Doomsday Book of 1086 and home to a 12th-century church tower, the village of Bramfield is steeped in history. This Regency house is no exception, with low beams, sumptuous beds and a crackling log-burner all adding to that sense of tradition. 

There's plenty of space for the whole family, both inside and out. On rainy days, board games, a DVD player, a Wii, a cosy reading snug and a playroom will fend off the boredom, while summer afternoons call for letting loose in the garden. While little ones bounce on the trampoline, parents can relax under the ivy-covered terrace with a glass of wine or bubble in the hot tub as the day fades away. Come dinnertime, whip up a feast in the kitchen or grill up a storm on the charcoal barbecue. And after a long day, nothing feels better than a soak in one of the two lush bathtubs – pure bliss, in our opinion.

Bramfield village is a five-minute walk away – aside from its historical attractions, it also has a lovely pub ideal for a bite to eat at lunch or a restorative mid-walk pint. On sunny days visit Southwold, a thirty-minute drive away, for fish and chips on the shingle beach.

Sat in rolling green gardens, the house has front patios and a top-floor balcony for catching some rays or watching the North Sea roll in from across the fields. If the lure of a swim is too hard to resist, it's a short three-minute walk to Walberswick beach, where sun, sea, and sand rule supreme. Interiors follow a beautifully incorporated monochrome colour scheme: a well-stocked kitchen is painted black, while upstairs bedrooms are flooded with light from the sliding doors and white walls. With farmland to the front and the owner’s beautiful private nature reserve behind – this gorgeous home, part of a cluster of mill buildings, is in an idyllic spot. 

Take a stroll through winding footpaths of the reserve that meander through meadows and forests of giant cedars and ancient oaks. In spring, you’ll see enchanting carpets of bluebells, primroses and daffodils, but whatever time of year you come, you’ll be treated to an array of wildlife, from chaffinches to woodpeckers. There are maps to find the footpaths going onwards to Snape Maltings, just over two miles away, and to the sea at Aldeburgh (or it’s seven minutes in the car). You can borrow some bikes too if you prefer to cycle.

You don’t have to go anywhere to get some fresh air, though. There’s a lovely old cobbled, sunny courtyard where clematis and wisteria clamber up the walls – it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the welcome hamper of breakfast goodies. There’s another patio area, too, with fragrant rambling roses – ideal for a glass of wine.

The home itself is a sympathetic conversion of a stable and grain store. We adore the character features inside, such as the traditional 17th Century Suffolk white brick flooring, wood-panelled walls and old oak floorboards. Part of the original manger has been incorporated into the wall dividing the kitchen and the living space area – a lovely touch. Open the stable doors here and listen to the blackbirds singing at dusk. Furnished with antiques, this cottage will appeal to couples and pet owners looking for a luxurious country bolthole.

The coastal village of Southwold, like most English seaside towns, has a splendid mix of quaint shops, rustic pubs, and chippies. A twelve-minute walk from its traditional pier, and fourteen from the boating lake, this cottage is a perfect base for exploring the local delights. As you enter through the red brick archway, stepping inside the home is like being transported to old England. You’ll immediately feel a warm welcome for the original wooden beams and fireplace in the lounge. With muted colours throughout, it’s a calming space for a country retreat. White walls bring a fresh and modern feel, with some quirky features like a funky chandelier in the master bedroom. Outside, we love the idea of sitting out in sun on the peaceful patio, with a cup of tea and a novel. And to pique the interest of literature fans, Southwold is a former stomping ground of George Orwell. A far cry from the urban dystopias of some novels, the fictional town from 'A Clergyman’s Daughter' is based on this very village. See if you can find the Orwell plaque in town (hint: follow the smell of fish and chips).

Step back in time at this meticulously restored Regency cottage. Your hosts have poured their time and energy into sourcing period-specific reclaimed materials and equipping the home with antique furnishings to create a cosy and charming English escape that offers the very best of coast and country.

All that effort has clearly paid off, as evidenced by the beautiful interior. From the Victorian roll-top bath to the eighteenth-century range and the wainscotting on the walls – every effort has been made to make it feel as authentic as possible. Even the mod cons, such as the TV, are hidden away inside bread ovens that are built into the chimney so as not to shatter the illusion.

At the top of the narrow staircase is the twin bedroom, through which you enter the main bedroom – a pretty common arrangement for houses of this period.

Step outside, and you'll find a beautifully maintained nature reserve right on your doorstep. Your hosts bought it in 2015 and have spent the intervening years slowly restoring and exposing its beauty, with winding footpaths leading to conveniently placed benches, soaring Scots pine trees and ancient oaks – perfect for a reflective moment in nature or a ride on the supplied bikes.

For adventures further afield, you'll find maps detailing footpaths that run to the world-class concert hall at Snape Maltings, two-and-a-half miles away, and continue through forests and past lakes, leading all the way to the sea at Aldeburgh.

Enjoy a tasty full English breakfast (courtesy of the welcome hamper provided by your lovely hosts Beverley and Martin) in the farmhouse style kitchen. Or when the Suffolk sun is shining, dine in the pretty, wisteria clad courtyard. If you’re lucky enough to be here in August and September, there's a mulberry bush in the grounds that guests are welcome to pick fruit from – perfect for making some jam or muffins.

Something else we adore here is the owner’s beautiful private nature reserve behind this home. Take the dogs for a walk through the meandering footpaths that wind through meadows and ancient woodland. In spring, you’ll see captivating carpets of cheerful daffodils, bluebells and primroses. Whatever time of year you come, though, you’ll be treated to an array of wildlife, from nuthatches to woodpeckers.
 
There are maps to find the footpaths going onwards to Snape Maltings, an arts complex on the banks of the River Alde, just over two miles away. Or head to Aldeburgh (seven minutes in the car) – you can borrow some bikes and cycle there in around thirty minutes too.

Twenty minutes on foot from the pristine sands of Walberswick Beach, this cottage-like home sits proudly at the end of a quaint row of village houses. Its standout exterior makes it unique on this street. The tasteful, pale-grey slatted wood is reminiscent of an exotic beachside retreat, but white detailing on the pointed roof and oriel windows give the home Nordic character. Inside, original beams support the sloped ceilings, bringing a rustic vibe. But yet again, there are surprisingly unique and modern features. We love the decorative white fireplace, stylish cushioned window seat, and the incredible upstairs bathroom – an enormous glass shower built into the arch of the roof. Further delights can be found outside. From one of the bedrooms, there’s a cute paved courtyard with a dining set (the perfect spot for sipping Earl Grey in the morning). On the other side, find a lush lawn, enclosed by leafy trees, which feels so secluded and private that you’ll forget that you’re in a village. To explore a busier side to the area, head fifteen minutes by car to Southwold for a walk along the pier and a portion of fish and chips.

Once part of a working dairy, this Grade II-listed cottage is now the perfect jumping-off point for exploring Southwold and the Suffolk coast. Boasting original brick floors and 19th-century character, every inch of this home is as warm and cosy as you'd expect. Upstairs, the cosy bedrooms, two of which are king-sized, are perfect for crashing out after a day spent walking the nearby nature reserves. Southwold village is less than five minutes away on foot – here you can peer into independent boutiques, stock up at the deli or indulge your inner beer connoisseur at Adnams Brewery. On sunny days, nab a perch on Southwold beach and wander over to the iconic pier. An excellent choice for a family seaside getaway, you're just a short walk from the beach for mornings of sandcastle building and kite flying. When tummies start to grumble, the village tearoom is a delight, or for something a little heartier, dive into one of the two charming pubs or walk over to Southwold via the footbridge for a fish and chip lunch.

Back at home, this period property may have old bones, but inside, everywhere feels refreshingly contemporary and playful, with vibrant textiles and intriguing artwork add layers of interest and style. Sea Shanties

Part of a former village hall and theatre, this stunning space is vast, to say the least. It's a sizeable chunk of one of the landmark mock Tudor buildings in Thorpeness, recently converted to a handful of homes. 

The main living area was where village plays and dances were once held, so it's just waiting to be filled with family fun and the sound of laughter. With an open kitchen area, big dining table and cosy sofas, it's built for socialising. Down some stairs, but all with windows and plenty of light, you'll find enough bedrooms to keep even large families happy. But if you're looking for the kids, they're more likely to be hanging out on the mezzanine at the top of the house. Furnished with bean bags, it's a great den for gaming. 

If you can motivate the crew to leave the house together, Thorpeness Beach is just a five-minute walk away, along with the boating lake, the golf course and a range of shops and cafes. Or explore Aldeburgh, once home to composer Benjamin Britten, a five-minute drive away.

Founder's Hall

If you’re looking for a classic British seaside holiday experience, this pastel blue cottage in Southwold should do the trick. It’s right in the heart of the town, with the iconic lighthouse in view, but still retains a sense of calm. Maybe that’s down to the oceanic colour scheme inside, which reminds you that the shore is just a few minutes walk away. There’s a gas fireplace to keep the living room cosy-warm after a day catching the sea air, and a splendid selection of holiday reads on the bookshelves.

Take a wander down the pier, admire the brightly painted beach huts, or go for a swim if the water’s not too chilly (it is the North Sea after all) – this is all just a seven-minute stroll along the seafront away. For the more adventurous, the Suffolk Heaths beckon, with their woodlands, estuaries.

If you’re looking to enjoy Southwold, you’ll be perfectly positioned – just an eight-minute walk from the popular pier and sandy beach. Spend mornings getting tea or coffee in town before strolling along the shore on the promenade. There’s plenty of footpaths across the marshes to lead you around the less travelled parts of town too if you’re craving scenic adventure. Then return home to your lovely cottage, which brings the carefree spirit of the seaside into its effortlessly chic décor. We love the roomy sage-coloured kitchen, ideal for preparing home-cooked meals for the whole family to enjoy at the large wooden table. Then let the kids run around the grassy lawn, or settle in the bright living area with your holiday reads and a board game. The light wood parquet flooring and stylish modern light fixtures make this classic cottage feel contemporary and cool, even in a place as charmingly constant as Southwold. 

Brine and Sand

perfect base to enjoy the Suffolk coastline. Take a five minute walk to the pier, shops and chippies of Southwold’s promenade or grab an ice cream from the fantastic shop across the road – if you don't have an ice cream in hand, you're not doing Southwold right. Or spend the day on Southwold Beach, also a five-minute stroll, while a nearby footpath takes you down to the harbour (around a twenty-minute walk), where you can get a foot ferry to Walberswick. Later, relax in the enclosed outdoor courtyard, back at this lovely home. We love the pretty shutters and the shelves full of books here. For the autumn and winter months there are three wood-burning stoves, while two separate reception rooms with sofas and TVs will ensure there’s no squabbling over what movie to watch. It’s a great spot for a family party or festive trip, especially for those who love to cook thanks to its Rangemaster with two ovens. So, why not cook up a feast with some local Suffolk produce for your loved ones.

Mine's A Triple Scoop

This seaside apartment puts you in the heart of Southwold, within walking distance of its beach and local shops. Plus, you'll be just 200 ft from the nearest pub and within view of the beach lighthouse. Ideal for a small family or group of friends, the space presents an open-concept main living area for socialising and chilling out. Where better than around the log burner fire after a coastal walk along the Suffolk coastline? You'll find a cloakroom for storing your coats and sandy shoes. Meanwhile, the host also offers the use of a beach hut equipped with a camping stove, dinnerware and beach equipment for an additional fee. 

The Paddleman 

Set in the heart of Southwold, this cute-as-a-button cottage was built by French Huguenots in the 17th century. And while some original features remain, namely the inglenook fireplace and shipyard reclaimed beams, the home has been lovingly renovated to bring it right up to the minute. Breakfast is to be taken in the vibrant courtyard, with produce from the nearby greengrocers and family-run butchers. Pack a picnic and slap on your sun cream – the sand and shingle of Denes Beach await. A ten-minute stroll places you right on the seafront, where bracing swims are optional but soft serve ice cream is compulsory. Return home with a steaming bag of fish and chips or nip to the pub, just two minutes from your doorstep, for some proper grub and a well-deserved gin and tonic. 

Sea Heather House

This spacious apartment sits just two miles from the picturesque coastal village of Southwold. While the town will be your one-stop shop for traditional English delights like fish and chips, followed by a walk along the pier, the home will be your serene base for relaxing after a long day taking in the sea air. The interiors are bright and airy, just like the surrounding coast and countryside, with a homely atmosphere created by soft furnishings like the plump sofas in the lounge. Wooden accents bring an organic feel indoors, which is further accentuated by all the outdoor space you have access to. From the living room, step out through double French doors leading to your own private patio. Beyond this, a lush green lawn where you can let the kids run wild, or set up a quiet afternoon picnic. A pot of Earl Grey tea and cucumber sandwiches are a must – it's pretty thirsty work trying out all the local walks. In a picturesque countryside location, this former farmhouse offers a peaceful retreat to those keen to escape the city and reconnect with nature, wildlife and the art of relaxation.

With peace and quiet at your fingertips, getting some much-needed rest comes easy here. From the cosy country-style interiors and original features such as exposed timber beams, narrow staircases and traditional flooring – the cottage is brimming with charm. 

We particularly love the contemporary kitchen which opens out via bi-fold doors onto the enclosed herb garden. Outside, you'll also find a patio terrace with outdoor seating and a large swimming pool to enjoy during the summer months. 

At the heart of the home, the living room features a log burner fireplace to curl up around after taking scenic strolls along the Suffolk coastline. There is also a snuggly study room which comes in handy for those who need to work from home during their stay. 

Just a short drive or cycle to the local pub, the Queen’s Head, and nearby Halesworth – enjoy the charming locale with this gorgeous setting as your base. 



Yay or Neigh? 

Once a traditional cottage, this home has been renovated into a grand space featuring an impressive modern extension with glass walls and chic interiors. Step through the bi-fold doors onto the sunny deck and Mediterranean-style garden and enjoy evenings gathered around the rustic fire pit. There's also a rear garden with a lush lawn, perfect for outdoor games and fun. Inside, there's plenty of room for your family or friends to spread out in the huge, light-filled, open plan living space – it's perfect for socialising. We love the sea views from the bedrooms too.

You and your guests will be staying in the picturesque village of Walberswick. Spend your morning on the beach just over 300 yards from this home, then grab a bite to eat at the pub 50 yards away, or make your way to Southwold just across the river for a wider selection of restaurants and shops. You can take the small ferry boat to Southwold (summer season only) or there is the footbridge to take you across. This home's proximity to the sea makes it an excellent choice for a seaside getaway. 


Coast & Anchor

This charming home is full of character. You can look forward to open fireplaces and beamed ceilings, as well as a pretty garden with a seating area for alfresco drinks in the summer. The low ceilings and steep staircases might rule this home out for some, but we like that there’s a ground-floor bedroom, and that you can bring a four-legged friend. The location is ideal for bird watchers, as the cottage is less than 3 miles from Minsmere Bird Reserve. The beach at Aldeburgh is only fifteen minutes away too.

Stay a stone's throw from the high street in the popular seaside town of Southwold. This lovely light-filled home offers an unconventional layout, providing plenty of separation between the spaces, making it ideal for a multi-generational family holiday or a coastal get-together for a couple of families.

As a former malt house, the Grade II-listed home offers an eye-catching blend of ancient exposed beams, soaring vaulted ceilings and open communal spaces that lend themselves very well to modern living. A spacious kitchen provides direct access to a suntrap patio out back – perfect for summer barbecues – while the expansive living and dining area on the first floor is a stunning social space.
