Perhaps it's the palm trees, white architecture and glistening sea view, but there's something of the Balaerics to this address. However, consult the map and you'll find that you're actually looking at England's south coast.

It's fair to say that the main asset here is the aforementioned panorama, which can be appreciated from the balconies leading off from four of the five bedrooms, from the comfort of the hot tub or simply as you eat breakfast out on the terrace. As you would hope, this proximity to the English Channel means the beach is mere metres away and guests have direct access to the surf here.

The summer house in the garden with bi-fold doors is a novel addition and is a great place to enjoy the fruits of your labour from the barbecue. Back inside, there's a wealth of places to kick back and relax, as well as an impressive collection of sleek bathrooms for washing off the sand and sea salt.

As well as plenty of beaches to visit in the local area, the home's also a quarter of an hour's drive from the hillside town of Arundel and less than half an hour in the car from Chicester Harbour AONB, just in case you fancy a spot of birdwatching.

Queen of Queens

Sleepy village life is on your doorstep at this charming end-terrace cottage in Amberley – the pearl of Sussex. Set at the foot of the South Downs and offering knockout views of the Amberley Wildbrooks nature reserve, it’s no surprise this is a declared Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A home for all seasons, winters are made for hunkering down beside the fire after country walks on the Downs. Meanwhile, summer is all about barbecues in the pretty walled garden. A cottage of this heritage comes with its quirks. Guests should be aware the twin bedroom is pocket-sized, and there are some steep stairs to contend with. But that's all part of the charm.

Pearl of Sussex

The world is your oyster at Head Over Hills. Nestled into the rolling hills of the South Downs by Amberly Wild Brooks, this home blends rustic living with an incredible range of modern luxuries to create a unique space that inspires you to slow down and spend time with your loved ones. Boasting 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape, a meditation pod, a sundeck, and private bluebell woods, we can’t think of a better place to unwind. Head out to the hills to explore the impressive sceneries (host Jemma also offers bike rentals), then come home and soothe your aching muscles in the wood-burning hot tub. Jemma also offers a menu of wellness retreat packages at an extra cost (think along the lines of yoga and pilates classes, sound baths and meditation instructors). And if you want to learn a new skill, you can also book vegan and raw food cookery courses – there are even creative tutorials in things like art and photography. At night, we recommend cooking up a storm in the bespoke kitchen (or hiring a private chef to do the honours), socialising with friends, and taking in your stunning surroundings.

Head Over Hills

Sandwiched between the South Downs National Park and the Chichester Harbour AONB, it doesn’t get more away-from-it-all country glam than this little Sussex nook. It’s on the edge of a wildlife meadow, so sessions on the private terrace come with the soundtrack of birdsong and a gentle summer breeze. Spot wildlife from the warmth of the private hot tub on the deck, or perhaps from the swing seat, strung up on the porch. 

The interior is a reflection of the wilderness location, with wooden artworks featuring fawns and birdlife on display in the cosy bedrooms. The window seat in the master makes for the perfect reading nook, overlooking the meadow, and there’s a desk in here should you need to work remotely. The vaulted, wood-beam ceiling is twisted with stringed lights for a fairytale effect and there’s plenty of room at the rustic wooden table for the group to dine inside (if you’re not enjoying an alfresco meal on the terrace, that is). Come evening time, the plush sofas in the living room are set around a wood-burning stove. 

Wildflower Hideaway

Set near the water’s edge on Hayling Island, this contemporary home really makes the most of its picturesque position. The house has an upside-down layout, with the bedrooms on a lower floor and the living space upstairs, ensuring extra-special views from the sofa. We love the garden, which has plenty of room to relax in the fresh sea air, and the covered balcony, where you can enjoy the view even when it rains. The island itself is a true holiday haven, with unspoilt beaches, scenic cycle trails, and a kid-friendly amusement park. Little ones will also like this home’s hidden playroom and bunk bed slide – but guests of all ages will love this coastal gem. 

 Tides of Hayling

Nestled in the village of West Ashling, this cottage offers a homely stay for four guests. Sure, the bedrooms are a bit of a squeeze, but this home has everything you need for a relaxing retreat – including a cosy wood burner for winter months and a sun-kissed terrace that’s perfect for summer. Just a short stroll from three country pubs, the village restaurant, and with a vineyard nearby offering wine-tasting tours, you’ll never be short of places to eat or drink here. Fancy a day on the coast? West Wittering beach is a short drive away.

Golden Seasons

Keen to escape your daily grind without going too far away from reality? This house, just a mile out of Chichester, has you covered. Set up like your typical modern family home, the space presents everything you'll need to seize the moment and feel genuinely settled in (as though it were your own home). 

With an open plan kitchen, dining and living area, the main hub of the home extends out onto the garden – presenting an abundance of extra space to enjoy, particularly when the weather is kind. And with a separate, additional living room, plus secluded bedroom spaces – you'll find plenty of quiet spaces to work from home if required from here too. 

Nestled just a twenty-minute walk from the town centre of Chichester and around a twenty-minute drive from the coastline of West Sussex, you'll have the local beaches and amenities at your fingertips here. 




Seize the Moment

One of a collection of three cottages on a thirteen-acre working farm in West Sussex, this home is nowhere near as rustic as these details might suggest. Step behind the front door and you'll find an interior that's contemporarily styled with a few quirky touches.

The stark white walls and sleek tiling make for a blank canvas against which the colourful cushions and hand-painted kitchen chairs really pop off. As well as that, the modern grey kitchen and pristine bathrooms are a world away from the back-to-basics country cottages that pepper the map in these parts – the rolltop bathtub in particular is sure to make a lot of guests very happy.

When the weather's on your side, there's a private outdoor space with an alfresco table and barbecue, but it's also lovely to wander about the shared parts of the site. The hosts run a private stud and breed native ponies, so if you're lucky, you might see a foal or two during your stay.

The home is blessed when it comes to location, sitting almost equidistantly between South Downs National Park and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – as you might imagine, there's a wealth of walking routes to embark upon that start straight from the farm or just a short drive away. The seaside isn't too far away, either – you can get over to Worthing in just over half an hour in the car. 



Mane Character

Close to the picturesque South Downs National Park, this home is on the ground floor of a cottage, nestled in the far-reaching grounds of the owner's estate. You'll find a lot of artwork and antiques here, so it might not be the best place for small children. You're in for a countryside treat, though – the views are wonderful, walking trails are nearby, and the garden faces west meaning the sunsets are truly awe-inspiring. You'll receive fresh eggs from the owner's chickens upon arrival, and you might be paid a visit by the resident Jack Russell terrier during your stay. For lovers of the outdoors, this home has everything.

Country Nest

Nestled deep in the English countryside, far away from the blaring horns and pneumatic drills of the city, this charming home provides the perfect base for a picturesque holiday pulled straight out of the pages of a ‘Famous Five’ story.

You’ll be struck by how charming the interior is as you pass through its doors. With its open-plan living space offering both ample room and plenty of style.

When you want to freshen up after a hike, you’ll be torn between the free-standing copper bath and the rainfall shower. In warm weather, you’ll enjoy meals out in the alfresco dining area. When it’s a bit nippy, you’ll relax sitting around the fireplace.

Offering direct access to the charming wooded areas of Hesworth Common (perfect for picnics or a trip to a country pub) and within walking distance from farm shops and an award-winning shop selling local produce, this home is in a fantastic location for getting a feel for the local area. We recommend trying the local wine – the area is becoming renowned for its vineyards and wineries.

The home can also serve as a base to explore a little further afield –  Chichester, Brighton, and Portsmouth all make for ideal day trip spots.

Panel Show

Although this three-storey home was only built in recent years, much of the interior design takes inspiration from retro trends. Many of the furnishings are mid-century in style and there are 1970s flourishes peppered about in the form of overhanging metallic lamps and swirly feature walls in the living rooms. That being said, the pristine white kitchen is as modern as they come, as are the bathrooms. Outside, guests get the benefit of not one, but two terraces, with space to cook, eat and relax. The location gives plenty of options for excursions in the great outdoors, too. It's possible to get on a footpath running alongside the River Adur in less than a minute on foot which is a great base for kayaking and paddleboarding, and leads to a 37-mile long track through the South Downs National Park. Shoreham Beach is a mere ten-minute walk via the high street which boasts an abundance of pubs, restaurants and shops, and the Brighton seaside only takes twenty-three minutes to reach in the car.

Chalkhill Blue

Boasting views of the River Adur and the marsh from almost every room, this waterfront home is perfect for a family getaway. Cool and contemporary, there's something for everyone to enjoy about this home, whether you want to curl up with an engrossing read on the hammock or strum a tune on the blue guitar. Home chefs will love preparing meals in the sleek kitchen and hosting barbecues in the garden, kids will like having a separate lounge to relax in, and everyone will appreciate the refreshing sea air and coastal sunsets out on the balconies (there are three to choose from). Best of all, you're right on the water, so activities like kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing have never been easier.  Shoreham-by-Sea has an array of charming pubs and eateries for evenings on the town, but when you want to switch up the scenery, hop in the car and make the twenty-minute drive to Brighton for even more options.
