We're pretty sure that you won't find many cottages cuter than this. Built at the backend of the eighteenth century, this traditional weaver's house is Grade-II listed and you can see why. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. The Peak District is only a ten-minute drive away too if you're in the mood for a long ramble.

Fit for a romantic country break, this classic stone cottage sits in the rolling hills near Huddersfield. A ten-minute drive sees you in the confines of the Peak District – the UK’s oldest National Park – where walking trails weave across the landscape atop hills and past waterfalls. Ten minutes in the other direction, you’ll find the quaint town of Holmfirth to stock up on groceries and visit the local pubs and cafés. There’s a local pub and bakery a fifteen-minute stroll into the hamlet of Hepworth too.

After a day trekking in the Peaks, this is the perfect spot to put your feet up. Unlace your hiking boots and warm your toes by the wood-burning stove in the living room. ‘Cosy’ is the watchword here, with old wooden gables on display and thick stone walls keeping things warm once the stove gets going. There’s a wellness centre on the estate too for some real R&R.

The home itself combines a Scandi-chic vibe with touches of the 19th century. Our favourite spot has to be the dedicated playroom, or “kid’s cave” where bunting and hand-written notes cover the walls and there’s a big activity table to keep little hands occupied for hours. The view from the classic old windows is something to savour too – out over rewilded pastures and rolling hills for miles.

Able to accommodate up to five guests, a few friends or a family will be well looked after here. This charming cottage in the quiet village of Long Marston is the perfect base from which to explore nearby York and its surrounding countryside. Inside, the place is bursting with character. Modern renovations cleverly incorporate the building’s original features and an eclectic selection of colour and texture adds extra intrigue throughout. We particularly loved the eye-catching orange sofa and French antique bed in the second bedroom. Begin your mornings with a bite to eat in the light-filled living space or spill out into the garden for breakfast alfresco if the weather is on your side. For those who like to like to get out into nature, a ramble through the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is in order – it’ll take you around an hour to get there by car. Culture buffs should make the twenty-minute drive into historic York for its ancient Minster and medieval Shambles. Finish the afternoon with a well-earned gin and tonic beside the pretty River Ouse.

Tucked into a sheltered, wooded valley, this picturesque cottage has a quiet, countryside feel that makes it the deal place for a secluded family retreat. You'll find plenty of rustic charm inside, from the wooden beams to the carved chess set and the antique four-poster bed – it dates back to the Georgian era and guarantees a great sleep. The wood-burning stove is the perfect place to curl up on chilly winter nights after you've made a cup of warm cocoa in the kitchen. However, during the warmer months, we reckon you'll head outside to enjoy a cool sundowner outside on the patio, or take a stroll through the sculpture-filled garden down to admire the ancient millpond. There’s also plenty of walking to be done around the surrounding woodlands – make sure you look out for the nearby waterfall while on your travels. Originally built in the mid-17th century, this striking farmhouse was subsequently acquired by the wealthy Wainhouse family and split into five cottages to house their dyers. The current host's family has lived in this cottage for two-and-a-half centuries and — save for some modern gizmos in the kitchen and a pristine white bathroom — the space hasn't changed all too much in that time. The ceiling beams, exposed stone walls and original doors remain, while the gas-fired cast iron stove in the inglenook fireplace is a fitting addition given the history. There's a lovely flower-filled garden at the front of the property, which might seem odd until you realise that it's south-facing and receives plenty of sunshine — when it decides to make an appearance in this corner of Yorkshire. When it does, there's a whole lot to see and do nearby, including countless historic sights, such as Wainhouse Tower on the Wainhouse Heritage Trail four minutes' walk away, and Shibden Hall reached in just under an hour on foot. Alternatively, the charming town of Hebden Bridge takes around a quarter of an hour to reach in the car and the Peak District starts half an hour's drive from your front door.
