This stylish apartment is perfectly placed for exploring the Lake District. It’s in the centre of the village of Coniston, within walking distance of the lake shore. From here, you can hike the Old Man of Coniston, one of the most striking peaks in the Lakes, and explore the Coniston Fells. The apartment is ideal for couples and families, with everything you might need for a cosy break. We love the views from the living room, and the sleek open-plan kitchen and dining space. 

Cosy Coniston

This charming apartment is located in the heart of Ambleside, the gateway to the Lake District. It boasts stunning views of the surrounding town, mountains, and lakes from every window, and is just a short walk from the shops, restaurants, and pubs. You can set off on delightful walks from the doorstep, and the likes of Lake Windermere and Rydal Water are a short drive away. The apartment won’t suit those seeking a modern, sleek holiday home but we think the slightly dated style adds to the charm. 

Ambleside Views

In a part of the UK with such stunning scenery, it really pays to have a home with some outdoor space here. Luckily, from this apartment's balcony, you get beautiful views of Lake Windermere and the hills surrounding the waters.

If it's ever too cold to use this space, you can head back inside and sit by the bay window, from which you get a similarly swoon-worthy panorama. Once you can tear your eyes away, you'll probably notice that the interior looks pretty modern — that's because it underwent a complete refurbishment in late 2021. The large kitchen and its collection of top-of-the-range appliances are particularly impressive, as are the pristine bathrooms.

When you're in the mood to see what the Lake District has to offer, you're in an excellent position to do so. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall is half an hour's walk away, while Rydal Cave can be reached in under ten minutes' drive. The nearby town of Ambleside has a cinema, cafes and even a Roman fort to explore, too.

Kendal Mint Cake

Warm and inviting, this home is perfect for families and groups of friends. It’s located just outside of Windermere, a mere ten-minute walk from the shops, restaurants, and pubs. There are plenty of parks to explore, in addition to the lake – will you hike around it or enjoy a spot of boating? The home itself is cosy and comfortable, with a log burner for chilly weather and an attractive patio garden for warmer days.

Pets are also welcome to tag along for a small fee, and you'll find plenty of dog walks on your doorstep.

With exclusive lake access, grab your paddleboards or kayaks and take to the lake. Prefer to hike? Trails are abundant locally, including the Grasmere and Rydal Water circuit. And after a fun-filled day outdoors, we recommend a short stroll into Grasmere, where restaurants, bars and tea rooms await. 


Grasmere Glow

You can't get much closer to Windermere than this – the shores of the mighty lake are right on your doorstep at this elegant five-bedroom country residence. And with access to a private jetty and mooring for a  boat, you can arrive in style here too.

Hidden away in the woodlands of an exclusive 5000-acre holiday estate, this home is perfect for groups looking for more privacy and peace during their Lake District stay. Spend days paddleboarding, lilo sunbathing, or wild swimming – you can always warm up in the hot tub afterward. But if you're more of a fair-weather swimmer, never fear – there's an indoor heated swimming pool (bookable) located on this estate, along with a playground and home farm shop with locally sourced goodies. 

When it's time to explore, there are so many walks in the area you'll be itching to get out. Or nip over to the historical Hawkshead, home to many adored restaurants and pubs – it's just a ten-minute drive away.

Back at home, behind the traditional Cumbrian stone walls, this period home offers pure modern luxury. The made-for-action kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up a feast (we're talking two ovens, two microwaves, and a welcome hamper stuffed with goodies). And there's room for you all to spill out at that vast dining table overlooking the lake. Or, on warmer evenings, take your meals outside on the terrace – the barbecue, firepit, and hot tub will keep the night flowing. 

Hammer Hole

This delightful apartment is perfectly placed in the heart of Ambleside, just a short walk from the shops, restaurants, and bars. The apartment was once a bank that has been lovingly converted into a cosy home-from-home, ideal for a couple. We love the views of Ambleside that can be admired from the living space and bedroom. Set off on walks straight from your front door, or drive to some of the Lake District’s most loved spots. 

Over Ambleside

This classic yet contemporary home is just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ambleside and perfectly placed to capture a picturesque glimpse of the steeple of St Mary's Church rising above the trees. So sip your morning coffee on the balcony and take a minute to enjoy the charming view. Once you arrive and park the car, we love that there's little reason to move it again as you can find everything you need on your doorstep. However, if you do decide to explore further afield, the home is only a ten-minute drive from the head of Windermere, meaning that exploring the Lake District is as easy as hopping in the car with a picnic. And when you return from the day's adventures, stroll down to one of the country pubs for dinner and a restorative pint of ale, or simply flop down in that spacious living room. 

And Here Is The Steeple

Less than 500 metres from the shores of Lake Windermere, you’ll find this five-star barn conversion, set behind electric gates. Also, the vibrant village of Bowness is around 250 metres away, with its array of shops, tourist attractions, bars and restaurants. Or you could simply relax in the large courtyard which overlooks woodland with its sofas and outdoor fireplace. The stylish lounge has the all-important log-burning stove too, so it’s a great place for all the family or friends to chill out – this place is designed for relaxation.

Lakeland Haven

Set in the Lake District, this home has been featured on the TV show Extraordinary Escapes, and we can see why. Situated on the shores of Lake Windermere, it has wonderful views and an acre of garden, as well as several balconies. There’s a terrace for dining and relaxing, as well as a jetty where you can moor a boat or kayak. The interior of this home is impressive too with its designer furniture and ski lodge feel. A home cinema and a games room with a bespoke 8-foot pool table will keep everyone entertained. And all the bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows – two also have oval baths overlooking the lake. This place has been designed with total luxury in mind.

Lakeland Retreat

Lying within a large estate on the western side of Lake Windermere, this mighty country pile is a superb option for a big party travelling to the Lake District.

Like many properties in the local area, there's a real sense of heritage and time-honoured homeliness in the interior, as seen with the wooden ceiling beams, grand dining room and lavish living area complete with a wood-burning fireplace and walls full of historic artwork.

That being said, it would be unfair to say that the home is stuck in the past. Contemporary features abound if you look closely enough, whether in the sleek bathrooms and equally smart kitchens or in the stylishly appointed bedrooms.

When the weather's playing ball, there's a garden and patio area for making the most of sunny spells, and there's also a communal swimming pool on the estate for which guests can book a slot. If you're feeling hardy, you can swim in Lake Windermere, which can be reached in around five minutes on foot. There's also a company on the estate that can organise watersports, as well as other outdoor excursions.
