This detached barn conversion is located in a quiet hamlet and offers panoramic views over the Cumbrian countryside. Outside, there’s a decked area for lunches in the sunshine and an enclosed garden for four-legged friends. Inside, the living area is kept warm with a wood-burning stove. If we had to be picky, we’d say the bathroom could do with a refresh, though it functions fine. The Cambrian Way passes by the front of the home, making the place ideal for walkers. Plus, the bustling market town of Ulverston, which holds a twice-weekly market, is a ten-minute drive away.

Having recently been renovated, there's no chintz here – instead, crisp white walls and wood floors are the order of the day. The living room and dining area have been thoughtfully popped up on the first floor, to take advantage of the views, and the vaulted ceiling has created space for a secret seating spot (the kids will consider this a den).

There's a cute log burner for cosy stays no matter the season and a suntrap rear garden that's perfect for breakfast on summer mornings. Set out on walks from your doorstep, drive to the nearby coast or visit Lake Windermere, just around fifteen miles away. This home really is one of a kind. Ideal for nature lovers, this cottage stands beside a lighthouse in the heart of the South Walney Nature Reserve at the southern tip of Cumbria. Staying here, you’re surrounded by wildlife, with sea views as well as those of the nature reserve. At high tide, you may spot grey seals bobbing off the coast. Using the handy bird-watching guidebooks and binoculars at the cottage, you’ll have the chance to spot birds like willow warblers, sandwich terns and eider ducks.

The cottage has a cosy, contemporary feel. Everything you need for your stay has been thought of, so you can focus on relaxing and making the most of your unique home-from-home. We love the log burner – after a day spent out in the fresh air, it’s lovely to curl up beside the fire with a glass of wine. Kids and grown ups alike will be in heaven here – on sunny days there’s a plethora of garden games, from giant Connect 4 and a garden chess set, to a pair of swings and a slide. Get everyone involved in a ping pong tournament, shoot goals in the netball hoop, or play a spot of badminton before firing up the two barbecues and enjoying an alfresco lunch on the deck. When it rains, fear not. Retreat to the games room for a round of pool, or curl up with a book in the plush sitting room while the kids play on the PS4. Your hosts pride themselves on their eco credentials – the underfloor heating is through a renewable ground source, and there’s a solar array on the roof providing the electricity.

Grange-over-Sands is a peaceful seaside town with elegant Edwardian architecture. The house is 150 metres from the Main Street, and within easy walking distance of a supermarket, local cafés, and some excellent takeaway restaurants. On sunny days, stroll along the banks of the estuary or walk seven minutes to the Ornamental Gardens for a picnic. The Lakes are easily accessible from the house – the southern end of Lake Windermere is fourteen minutes away by car, where you can practise a variety of watersports. On race days, drive eight minutes to the lively Cartmel Racecourse, and visit one of the top class restaurants in the town afterwards. Or head home and take advantage of the electric pizza oven for a pizza night on the verandah. There’s endless fun to be had here – we just hope you can squeeze it all in!

Situated at the southern end of Coniston Water, the fifth largest of the lakes, this barn conversion blends contemporary comfort with period details. The farm is believed to date back to the 17th century, and the surrounding landscape hasn't changed much in all that time. Lace up your hiking boots and follow any number of footpaths that pass right by the front door. Lake Bank pier is just ten minutes on foot and is perfect for summer swims, canoe launches and paddle boarding.  Alternatively, head north to Coniston Boating Centre for boat hire and trips on the beautifully restored Victorian steam-powered Gondola.

There’s an enclosed south-facing private garden to relax in complete with a dining terrace and hammock too. Inside, the stylish interiors will impress your family and friends, and all three bedrooms have en-suites. Another highlight is the location – it’s just 200 metres from the shores of Lake Windermere and a short walk from the village centre, where you'll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and pubs. It's also the perfect base for exploring the Lake District National Park, with its beautiful scenery and outdoor activities.

When a home is surrounded by beautiful scenery, the interior really has to up its game in order to stand a chance of being noticed and thankfully that's the case with this address. Large floor-to-ceiling windows let in ample amounts of natural daylight, which dances pleasingly off the wooden floors. Added to that, we liked the kitchen finished in a fetching shade of purple, the cosy wood-burning stove in the living room and the smart-looking bathrooms. Combined all together, it's almost enough to distract you from the stunning view of Lake Ullswater watched over by undulating hilltops. When you're in the mood to swoon, there's a terrace complete with alfresco seating so you can dine with this sweeping panorama in front of your eyes. The property itself sits on the Ullswater Way — a walking route that goes around the water — and you can easily reach other natural landmarks on foot. Aira Force waterfall, for instance, takes just over an hour and a half.

It’s no wonder that this home, in the heart of the Lake District National Park, has been nominated for Cumbria's most stylish two-bedroom retreat. A lot of thought has gone into the design of this home. There’s a Morsø log burner and designer furniture in the Scandinavian-style living room and luxurious beds with Egyptian cotton linen. Sliding doors from the living space lead to a fantastic social outdoor area with seating and dining, as well as a fireplace and barbecue. You can’t come to the Lake District without exploring the area – so have a stroll around Bowness-on-Windermere’s streets filled with boutiques, cafes, and pubs. Or go for a boat trip on Lake Windermere, less than 200 metres away.

This warm and inviting home is in the grounds of the old vicarage estate, having originally been the stables. It’s nestled in the heart of the Lake District, between Lake Windermere and Esthwaite. A five-minute drive away lies the historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, where you're sure to pick up charming souvenirs and fresh local produce. Further afield, take to the water at Lake Windermere, a half-hour drive from your front door.

Every care has been taken to modernise this Victorian cottage without diminishing its period charm. We love the old-world touches, like the cast iron heaters, sparkling chandeliers and ornate vintage mirrors. Escaping from the hustle and bustle of the big city is a no-brainer here. Throw open your windows in the morning, and you’ll hear birdsong – you might even see a passing deer or two. Whip up a quick breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen, and then put on your walking shoes. Miles of open countryside await right on your doorstep – the cottage is at the end of a drive where the village gives way to the natural world. You can spend entire days hiking the patchwork of fields and farms crisscrossed by a web of brooks. You’ll quickly work up an appetite after all that exploring. From this delightful farmhouse, around two miles from Arnside Beach, not only can you explore these striking English scenes in all their glory, but your own home is something of an AONB in its own right. 

Located in thirty-five acres of lush fields, this renovated farmhouse oozes rustic luxury from the offset. Woodlands, streams, ponds, and limestone clint pavements make up this unique landscape, with your glorious stone cottage at the centre of it all. We love the outdoor seating on the verdant lawns, as well as patios and even a garden kitchen with its very own pizza oven.
