This detached barn conversion is located in a quiet hamlet and offers panoramic views over the Cumbrian countryside. Outside, there’s a decked area for lunches in the sunshine and an enclosed garden for four-legged friends. Inside, the living area is kept warm with a wood-burning stove. If we had to be picky, we’d say the bathroom could do with a refresh, though it functions fine. The Cambrian Way passes by the front of the home, making the place ideal for walkers. Plus, the bustling market town of Ulverston, which holds a twice-weekly market, is a ten-minute drive away.

In a charming spot in a tiny village on the little River Eea, this cosy home is a mix of character features and modern comforts. Overlooking the river, with an unusual layout and plenty of space, it's a great choice for a family but would just as readily suit a group of friends.

Having recently been renovated, there's no chintz here – instead, crisp white walls and wood floors are the order of the day. The living room and dining area have been thoughtfully popped up on the first floor, to take advantage of the views, and the vaulted ceiling has created space for a secret seating spot (the kids will consider this a den).

There's a cute log burner for cosy stays no matter the season and a suntrap rear garden that's perfect for breakfast on summer mornings. Set out on walks from your doorstep, drive to the nearby coast or visit Lake Windermere, just around fifteen miles away. And best of all, there are a couple of pubs to choose from within the village.

This home really is one of a kind. Ideal for nature lovers, this cottage stands beside a lighthouse in the heart of the South Walney Nature Reserve at the southern tip of Cumbria. Staying here, you’re surrounded by wildlife, with sea views as well as those of the nature reserve. At high tide, you may spot grey seals bobbing off the coast. Using the handy bird-watching guidebooks and binoculars at the cottage, you’ll have the chance to spot birds like willow warblers, sandwich terns and eider ducks.

The cottage has a cosy, contemporary feel. Everything you need for your stay has been thought of, so you can focus on relaxing and making the most of your unique home-from-home. We love the log burner – after a day spent out in the fresh air, it’s lovely to curl up beside the fire with a glass of wine. You don’t even need to leave the cottage to enjoy the setting, as the views are incredible, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Grange-over-Sands is a peaceful seaside town with elegant Edwardian architecture. The house is 150 metres from the Main Street, and within easy walking distance of a supermarket, local cafés, and some excellent takeaway restaurants. On sunny days, stroll along the banks of the estuary or walk seven minutes to the Ornamental Gardens for a picnic. The Lakes are easily accessible from the house – the southern end of Lake Windermere is fourteen minutes away by car, where you can practise a variety of watersports. On race days, drive eight minutes to the lively Cartmel Racecourse, and visit one of the top class restaurants in the town afterwards. Or head home and take advantage of the electric pizza oven for a pizza night on the verandah. There’s endless fun to be had here – we just hope you can squeeze it all in!

The River Rothay flows right past the garden where fairytale-esque stepping stones connect you to the other side of the bank. Following the riverside walk, you’ll end up in the pretty village of Ambleside in twenty minutes where shops and cafés abound and watersports on Lake Windermere are on offer. The home itself is an eco getaway, housed in a circular stone building designed to blend into the fells behind it. Make the most of countryside views from the terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows.
