It’s been beautifully refurbished and transformed into a boutique home with all the comforts you could ask for, all the while retaining its historic charm. The lounge is upstairs, benefitting from wonderful views, and the kitchen is equipped with all the mod-cons, including a Quooker tap. The bedrooms feature deep, luxurious mattresses. The cottage is located in the heart of Sedbergh, a charming town on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and only a short drive from the Lake District. You’ll have bookshops, pubs, and an excellent butcher shop on your doorstep, in addition to stunning walks.

Place yourselves in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park at this Victorian former mill owner's house. Kitted out with eleven bedrooms (ten en-suite, plus a large house bathroom) and a made-for-action kitchen (we're talking three ovens, two large induction hobs, two dishwashers and two wine fridges), it's prime for a large multi-generational family gathering. Add to that a cinema room, a snooker room, and a leisure suite with two side-by-side hot tubs outside, and there are plenty of reasons to linger here. Should you fancy a change of scene, the local village pub and shop in Sedbergh are within walking distance (half an hour on foot), and there are hiking trails, waterfalls, and caves begging to be explored.

This Casterton cottage has lived many lives in its rich history, most notably as the school Charlotte Brontë and her sisters attended in the 1800s. To stay here is to stay in literary history. Recently renovated, the cottage has a new life as a home where high ceilings meets joyous splashes of colour and comfortable furnishings. This apartment is located in the small village of Casterton, on the site of the Brontë sisters’ former school. It’s just a short drive from the bustling market town of Kirkby Lonsdale and within easy reach of some of the most popular spots in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. A large balcony stretches the length of the home, from the cosy living room to the main bedroom, boasting woodland views. The apartment is equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable stay. 

The Brontë Sisters

Stay in this modern three-storey townhouse just ten minutes from Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District. The layout of this home might be a bit confusing – there are two bedrooms on the ground floor and another two on the second floor. All bedrooms have zip-and-link beds that can either be twin beds or super-king size beds. The living, kitchen, and dining area is on the first floor and leads onto the private balcony, which has a staircase down to the shared garden. We don’t have pictures of the dining area, balcony, or garden, but we expect the style to match this contemporary abode. It’s the location that stands out to us – you’re steps from a golf course, Lake Windermere is a fifteen-minute drive away, and the Yorkshire Dales are also within easy reach.

The Oak & Holly

This charming home is a splendid base for exploring the Lake District National Park. It’s tucked away in a peaceful valley so you can really unwind, but it’s just a twelve-minute drive from Kendal and fifteen minutes from Windermere. When you’re not out enjoying the Great Outdoors, you’ll be able to admire views of the surrounding countryside from the patio, or get cosy beside the log burner. The vaulted ceilings make the home feel roomy and welcoming, whether you’re visiting for a romantic break or as a small family.

At sundown, there’s no better place than the furnished patio for a tipple or two as the sky streaks orange and pink.

With modern, velvet furniture in the living space illuminated by enormous bay windows, the gold detailing truly shimmers in the afternoon sun. Pad across the plush carpet to the flagstone floors of the kitchen, where you can rustle up a wholesome Sunday roast on the bottle-green Aga. Shhh. Can you hear that sound? Us neither. Quietness and tranquility await in this truly extraordinary country cottage in the North Yorkshire dales. The home's glorious traditional features - original stone floors, warm wooden beams, a roaring fireplace - are full of character, but it's the styling of this home that will make you feel at ease from the moment you arrive. In the welcoming living room, the exquisitely-soft turquoise sofa is the perfect place to while away the hours with a book from the well-stocked bookshelf, and Eastern-inspired touches (including Buddha statues) add to the sense of calm. The kitchen, with its white marble countertops and exposed stone walls, is the ideal spot to cook up a rib-sticking meal. The bedrooms are elegant but simply furnished, with mustard yellow blankets and a dried flower wreath creating little moments of joy. But perhaps the real peace here comes from the scenery – this home is in the Yorkshire Dales’ Arkengarthdale, a beautifully remote location where you can hike for miles without seeing another soul. Bliss.

Nearby, you’ll have traditional pubs, cafes, and independent shops – what more could you ask for?

Nestled amongst the east wing of a sprawling estate, this maisonette has plenty of room for families. Cosy and inviting with wooden beams and angled ceilings, this home is sure to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling when you arrive. Snuggle up on the Chesterfield sofas in front of the electric fire while your favourite movie plays on the DVD player. Rustle up delicious meals in the stylish kitchen, then gather around the dining table for family feasts, sharing stories and bottles of bubbly straight out of the wine fridge. All the bedrooms are roomy and traditionally styled, and with private en-suites, nobody will have to queue for the loo. But our favourite spot is the garden. After an alfresco lunch in the courtyard, wander the several acres of grounds and woodlands. The views are absolutely stunning – they stretch towards River Eden and to the Castle Carrock Fells, promising you a slice of that peaceful rural life. Keen cyclists can roam the country lanes by bike or just stroll along the river – viaduct towers, hidden caves and waterfalls are just a few things you'll discover. When your stomach starts rumbling, walk ten minutes into town for local ales and mouth-watering fare at the village pub. Both Carlisle and the Lake District are easily reached by car if you fancy a day out, though we're quite happy to while away our afternoons in Wetheral, exploring the countryside.

This cosy home provides a true countryside escape. It's located on the cusp of Wensleydale and resides near the stretching natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. If you love wholesome walks and snapping pictures of beautiful scenery, this is the home for you. 

If you did want to explore the undulating hills of the Yorkshire Dales, they're under half an hour away. You can take a few days to master the hillside or simply just spend an afternoon amidst the sea of green. 

Of course, you don't have to visit them at all – various walking trails decorate the landscape near your home. Simply set out in the mornings to discover the local rural charm.

When you're out in the nearby towns and villages, make sure to stop off for a quick pint at the cosy pubs. You can also find a selection of cute shops and authentic stores selling clothes, food and souvenirs. 

Once you're back at the home, snuggle into its tranquil comfort. Catch a film on the TV, sit out on the garden table with a cup of coffee or just read a book on the rustic bench. Picturesque and peaceful, it's an idyllic spot in the heart of the rural North of England.

Some of the Lake District’s most striking scenery can be found at Ullswater, with its mountainous landscape and unusual z-shaped, ‘ribbon lake’, which is the second largest in the region. But even better than simply visiting this beautiful spot, you can see it all from the windows of this lakeside home. Although it’s just a five-minute drive from the quaint town of Pooley Bridge, this home feels truly rural and isolated. Park up the 4x4 in the gravel drive and head into this warm and welcoming abode. Light up the wood-burning stove in the plush lounge, with its horseshoe sofa that can fit the entire family. Or you can even have your own private hideaway in the second sitting room, with yet another fireplace – this time a sleek, modern hearth set into the wall. For balmy English evenings, another space can be found outdoors, with your very own patio complete with comfy garden furniture. Alfresco drinking and dining will certainly be on the cards out here. While you can see the water from the comfort of your own home, it’s just a seven-minute walk down to Ullswater Marina.

This charming home is in the Falls development in old Ambleside, just a five-minute walk from Ambleside yet in a remarkably peaceful setting. The home overlooks the Stockghyll Gorge, so the sound of water cascading down the rocks becomes the soundtrack to your stay – there are two terraces to enjoy this from, one of which has a barbecue. There are many delightful walks that you can set off on straight from the front door, so you won’t need to use your car much after your arrival. We love this home and think you will too.

Set in a tiny hamlet above bohemian Hebden Bridge, the location of this home is everything.  Thick with artists, crafters, beekeepers, and people who like to do things a bit differently, HB must be one of the most unique villages in England. That quirky, independent spirit carries through into this cottage, with its eclectic mix of furnishings. Think classical with touches of the Middle East, craft crockery and striking wall art. The tree-filled garden is just the place for a morning chai latte, before browsing Hebden Bridge’s independent boutiques, watching an art-house film at the 1920s Picture House, or making a literary pilgrimage to Sylvia Plath’s grave in the ruined churchyard across the road. If you’d like an outdoorsy interlude from all that arts and culture, the surrounding countryside is prime territory for hiking. Mooch along to the café down the road for hearty breakfasts, or a smidge further, into Clapham (four-minute drive or half-an-hour stroll) with its cheese shop (this is Wensleydale territory), delightful independent gift shops, and a traditional pub for real ale and a warm welcome.  

When it’s time to dive into the great outdoors, you’re right beneath Ingleborough, one of the famous Three Peaks. Follow the countless bridle paths just moments away, leading to lakeside nature trails, mature woodlands, spectacular limestone caves, and eventually, the summit of Ingleborough.

When it’s time to come back down to earth, this elegant home with a pedigree going way back to 1620 delivers all the cottage feels with flagged stone floors, exposed beams, and quirky little nooks. Friends sharing will love how spaced out the bedrooms feel, each on their own floor. And though there’s no enclosed garden to speak of, the lawned sitting-out area at the front of the home is perfect for evening summer drinks as you watch the lambs and ducks waddle by across the green. In winter months, take things indoors to hunker down for cosy film nights –⁠ the wood is stacked by the stove and Netflix is at the ready.
