Looking across the River Foss to Clifford’s Tower perched on a hilltop, this luxurious little apartment puts you in the centre of the city. Walk along the banks of the River Foss and past the ramshackle old streets to reach the central Shambles market in just six minutes. The Minster is just beyond, a ten-minute walk from the apartment. 

From the apartment’s balcony, you’ve got uninterrupted views over the Foss River to Clifford’s Tower – a 13th-century fortification sitting atop a hill. This is the perfect spot for a drink or two at the end of the day. River views continue inside, where floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room flood the place with natural light. Hardwood floors add a classy touch, and the underfloor heating is a delight in the winter months. The open-plan living area feels spacious and sleek, and the master bedroom is particularly plush with its chaise longue and desk should you need to work remotely. 

Clifford's View

Enjoy incredible sixth-floor views over York from this dazzling apartment just a stone’s throw from the River Foss. Upon entering the home, you’ll be immediately struck by the floor-to-ceiling windows filling the space with light and proffering picturesque views over the city’s rooftops as well as the historic York Minster in the distance. Whether you’re curled up on the sofa with a mug of Yorkshire tea or relaxing in the corner seating area with a glass of wine at sunset, you’ll be transfixed by the ever-changing city tableau in front of you. With its wood floors, sparkling appliances and contemporary decor, there’s no mistaking this chic pad for anything other than luxury living. Factor in the two comfortable bedrooms – one of which has a desk – boasting equally breathtaking views as well as the home's rainfall showers, a tub for relaxing in after a day of walking and an on-site parking space for added convenience, and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful break. Outside of your home, York’s Shambles are a six-minute walk away, York Castle Museum is walkable in four and the mighty York Minster is twelve minutes away on foot. 


Yes Minster

A recently converted landmark building within two minutes' walk of York Minster, the period exterior of this place doesn't give away the sleek, modern apartment inside. Offering all the comforts of home, you'll feel like a local in no time. With everything so new it's practically sparkling, you'll have a sociable, open-plan living space with a comfy sofa and a smart dining table, along with a high-spec contemporary kitchen area with all the kit you'll need to cook at home. Both bedrooms are stylish and each has a dedicated bathroom so there won't be any need to queue for the shower in the morning. Little luxuries include welcome treats, underfloor heating in the bathrooms and a funky remote control backlight behind the TV – to set the mood for the evening. The location couldn't be better either, with a walk of fewer than ten minutes into the city centre.

Month of Sundays

Housed in a converted granary once used by corn merchants Hurtley Dickinsons & Sons in the 1800s, this beautiful home may be steeped in history but its interiors are nothing short of modern luxury. 

From the beautiful engineered oak flooring to the contemporary-chic furnishings and luxe details (like 500 thread count bedding, a 65-inch TV with 180+ digital channels and Neff and Bosch appliances), this home has been lovingly curated to give you a stylish, comfortable stay. 

Pour yourself a welcome gin and tonic and make yourself comfortable on the living room’s plush sofas as you look out onto views of nearby York Minster. These privileged views are enjoyed from every room in the apartment – not least of all the stunning bedrooms. With two sleek porcelain-tiled showers – one of which is an en-suite – offering rainfall showers and heated mirrors, you’ve got everything you need to experience the city in sumptuous fashion. 

When it comes to exploring, you couldn’t be better placed either. Explore the historic Shambles (a three-minute walk), stroll along the York City Walls (a five-minute walk), and visit York Minster up close, just seven minutes away on foot. With plenty of restaurants, bars and cafés nearby too, there’s no end to the enjoyment in store. 


The York Granary

Affectionally known as Bishy Road to locals, Bishopthorpe Road is home to an award-winning collection of independent shops and is the frequent venue for street parties. It's a great place to stay near if you want to see a more authentic side of York and as luck would have it, this house sits on a side street just off the famous thoroughfare. We can't really find anything to fault with the interior — the long, open living space on the ground floor is bright and welcoming thanks to a big bay window on one side and glass doors on the other. Go through these and you'll be greeted by a courtyard with seating for alfresco feasts in the summer months. For want of a better word, it's all very homely, which is exactly what you want when visiting a new city. If you fancy a jaunt into the historic centre, you can be on the other side of the River Ouse in under ten minutes on foot.

Mitre & Crosier

The stereotype linked to those from Yorkshire is that they're a straightforward bunch of people and they aren't afraid to say it how it is. This apartment in the centre of York is similarly no-nonsense and will ensure guests have a hitchless time in this idyllic part of England. The design is simple but effectively so, with the neutral palette of greys and whites livened up by the occasional burst of burnt orange. There's a fireplace to gather around on those chillier evenings, while the mirrored doors on the bedroom wardrobe will make it easy to get ready ahead of an evening out. Located four minutes' walk from the York City Walls, many of the main attractions are equally easy to reach. The cathedral is less than ten minutes away on foot, while the castle takes fifteen.

The Grand Old Duke

It's no mean feat to find somewhere in a charming, rural spot that's super close to the historic city centre of York. But this charming little home pulls it off with aplomb. A converted farm building in a scenic location around twenty-five minutes from town by car, it's a perfect retreat for a couple or a small family. Owned by Guy and Tracey's family for generations, they've turned the former farm and livery into a small group of exclusive homes, each with its own unique character. Where cows used to be housed, there's now a sleek, modern home with skylights and a fabulous log burning stove. There's a smart kitchen with everything you'll need to cook at home and a dining table for up to four. Or choose to eat outside, where your table and chairs overlook your pretty garden and the paddocks beyond. Guy, who used to be a joiner, has used his skills to handcraft some of the furniture in the cottage – including the impressive backlit headboard in the bedroom.  

Fresh from the Farm

Located on a quiet road just a stone's throw from York’s bustling city centre, this stylish apartment is a wonderful choice for a family or friends’ getaway. With a chic interior, suntrap balcony, and well-equipped kitchen, there’s everything you need for a comfortable stay.

We love how sleek and contemporary this home is, and the harmonious colour palette of mustard and dark grey makes it clear a lot of thought went into designing this city pad. It might be chic, but it’s still wonderfully homely. Whether you’re watching the TV on the plush sofa, savouring a coffee on your balcony, tucking into dinner around the dining table, or reading a book in your cosy bed, you’ll feel right at home. 

Not only is the apartment beautiful, but it’s also in a fantastic location. Nestled in a residential area but just a short walk from the city centre, you get the best of both worlds. You’ll love exploring the famous Roman walls, the Georgian architecture, and trying to tick off as many of the thirty museums as possible. If you fancy a break from the city, the Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach for long, windy walks in the countryside. However you spend the day, you’ll be glad to come home to your apartment. Take a bottle of wine to the balcony to catch the last of the afternoon sun, before heading out to discover York’s excellent culinary scene.

Seeing the Seasons

This apartment has an ace up its sleeve — a huge wraparound balcony that has a superb view of the most famous building in the city, York Minster. There's space to sit out here with this wonderful backdrop, but don't worry if it's too cold, as the floor-to-ceiling windows running around the length of the living space ensures that it's possible to take it in while sitting indoors. 

The interior takes the best parts of 1970s design — the earthy colour palette, patterned wallpaper and natural materials — to create a space that's retro without feeling dated. For the cherry on the cake, the kitchen has plenty of surface space for cooking up a storm and a bathtub upstairs will help you relax after a long day of sightseeing, which is welcomingly easy to do from the central location. Five minutes' walk will get to Museum Gardens, while the same amount of time in the opposite direction will see you reach the medieval shopping street, York Shambles.

Fifteen Kings

Watch life go by along York's medieval city walls from the private balcony that wraps the entire length of this bright, modern apartment. Dining alfresco on sunny evenings, as dusk settles over the historic rooftops in the distance, is a rare treat for a home this centrally located. Inside, expect pristine interiors and all the home comforts you could need. We’re particularly impressed with the master bedroom with views over the city, complete with a king-size bed donned with crisp, snow-white linens. And thanks to its unique position away from traffic noise, you’ll be sure to bank a peaceful night’s sleep here. When it’s time to set off exploring, it’s hard to imagine a better location. You’re just a short walk from the city’s historical hotspots, including York Minister (sixteen minutes on foot) and the vibrant Shambles Market (ten minutes on foot). When thought’s turn to food, lose yourself in the labyrinth of streets wall-to-wall with bustling restaurants and traditional pubs. And no visit to York would be complete without a visit to the institution that is Betty’s Café Tea Rooms (just fourteen minutes on foot) for a fat rascal scone and a side portion of Yorkshire nostalgia.

Wall to Wall

There's a timeless quality to this home, just a short walk from the city centre. Part of a period terrace, it's as pretty as a picture – both inside and out. You're spoilt for choice here, with two sitting rooms to choose between. Both super comfortable and classically furnished, there's the front room with its arched window and cosy sofas, and the former dining room with its armchairs and log burning stove. Giving the option of letting the youngsters have their own living space, it's a handy arrangement made possible by the kitchen extension. In this modern space, you'll have an excellent, fully kitted-out kitchen (hello range cooker!) and a dining area that opens out to the charming little courtyard. In the summer evenings, it's the perfect spot for dinner and drinks outside. With two good size bedrooms and a luxurious bathroom with a freestanding bathtub, we didn't think this warm, welcoming home could get any better. But it can – you're welcome to bring along your pet too. 

Bellflowers at Teatime

Modern, colourful and supremely comfortable, this apartment on the west side of the River Ouse is an excellent base from which to explore the best of York. Inside the home, it’s all sumptuous soft furnishings in the living space and sleek mod-cons in the kitchenette. Head through to the bedroom and you’ll find a hotel-quality bed that ensures a blissful night’s sleep. 

After a cup of Yorkshire tea and a hunk of local Moggy cake, pull on your comfiest shoes and hit the streets. The famous Jorvik Viking Centre and medieval Shambles are less than a fifteen-minute walk from your doorstep. Enjoy a mosey around York Minster, reached in twelve minutes, then stroll around the peaceful Museum Gardens. When you’re ready for something to eat, Micklegate, with its selection of bars and restaurants, is just footsteps away.
