New York loft-style meets traditional fishing cottage at this bijou home in Pittenweem. Stepping inside, you can see this place was designed by an award-winning architect. Flagstone floors and the old stone partition wall have been retained as though from the 18th-century, but the kitchen is all sleek units and high-spec appliances. A wood-burner still crackles at the heart of the home, keeping things cosy in the colder months. Upstairs, a plump king-size bed awaits and the traditional old window looks out onto the narrow wynd below. As for location, you’re mere footsteps from Pittenweem’s High Street (about 30, we’ve counted), where you’ll find cafés, craft shops, galleries and a fabulous fish and chip shop. It’s a two-minute walk to the East Neuk's only working harbourfront where you can watch the fishing boats land their catch of lobsters and langoustines, and St Andrews is a twenty-minute drive away. 

Fisherman's Shanty

This rustic, 17th-century mill has been turned into a luxury nook in the Scottish Borders. You can see the old but still operating waterwheel, contrasted against the roses and flowering lavender on the old miller's house next door. A wood-burning stove sits are the heart of the home, keeping things cosy warm in winter (your host will leave detailed instructions on how to light it so you’ll become an expert). The classy, aubergine-purple kitchen is well stocked with artisan crockery and everything you need to cook up a holiday meal. The mill’s original mezzanine floor has been converted into a plush bedroom with a roll-top bath. Heading outside, you’ll find a small, private woodland garden with table and chairs. Exploring the rest of the old mill site you might spot owls and hedgehogs in the forest, heron and otters by the millpond and acquaint yourself with the friendly resident sheep. Heading into the small village of Lauder, three miles away, you’ll find a handful of craft shops, coffee shops and a local deli too.  

The Old Mill House

Set off into the wilds from this snug seaside base. Situated in the picturesque harbour town of Oban, the one-bed apartment is an ideal setting-off point for couples or solo travellers to explore Scotland's rugged Highlands.

Contemporary and comfortable, this home also boasts direct views of the bay. Cosy up in the open-plan living space after a long day and watch as the community winds down outside your window. We love the exposed stone wall that brings a touch of the wilderness indoors. The sleek kitchen is well-outfitted for you to prepare a hearty breakfast each morning.

Adventurers will no doubt be happy here – not only are there beaches and golf courses on your doorstep, but some of Scottland's best hiking trails are just a short drive away. We recommend taking the short and scenic ferry ride to the Island of Kerrera, where a crumbling castle looks out over the Atlantic. Enjoy freshly baked goods in the cottage tearoom before returning to your home base.

Highlands Hideaway

There are multiple rooms to discover, from the huge dining space to the cosy corners with chairs by the fire. The best part? You have the entirety all to yourself. After the host provides a tour and snippets of the history, you can explore each quaint crevice at your own leisure. Indulging in a royal feast in the dining room is a particular highlight. 

Such is the grandeur of the castle, we can understand why you'd never want to leave. But if you did want to stretch your legs, take a stroll along the beautiful River Tweed, leading to the charming town of Peebles. Here, you'll find welcoming pubs, a fascinating museum and premium restaurants.

Scots & Queens

You’ll really feel like you’ve escaped to the county at this wooden cabin in the Scottish Highlands. Nestled near a quiet stream on a 400-acre estate, the home boasts views across the Strathglass Valley from the balcony – best enjoyed while relaxing in the hammock. And with no TV or wi-fi, there’ll be nothing to distract you from your stunning surroundings. Though compact, the cosy cabin has everything you’ll need, including a fully-equipped kitchen, large sofa, and wood-burner. The bed is on a mezzanine level accessed via a ladder, so it won’t suit everyone, but the star-gazing roof window will make the climb up worth it. When you’re ready to explore, you’ll find waterfalls nearby, and Loch Ness a thirty-minute drive away.

Highland Falls

For understated luxury in the heart of nature, look no further than this beautiful bothy. Set within the private estate of Glen Dye, this is the kind of space that immerses you in the Scottish wilderness but with comfort and ease. 

Alongside its majestic setting, the styling and exceptional craftsmanship make this home truly unique. From the Margaret Howell lamps to the handmade tiles in the kitchen, this home inspires you to slow down and cherish the small details. Whether you’re preparing breakfast in the kitchen, relaxing, meditating or reading, the creative energy of this setting is palpable. 

No doubt, the inspiring views will draw you outside to walk through the miles of moorland and forest. Make a stop in the estate’s BYOB pub or relax in the wood-fired sauna. Wherever you find yourself, there’s something beautiful to admire. 

As the day draws to a close, take a long soak in the wood–fired hot tub, and then light up the barbecue for an authentic taste of outdoor living. 

The Wild Muse

This romantic hideaway sits on the outskirts of Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire and boasts woodland walking routes from its front door. With a private patio terrace and views over the River Tay – there's also the option to soak up the surrounding nature without moving a muscle. This spot sits on the grounds of the owner's home, however, it is a self-contained annexe detached from the main house, so it still feels private. You'll also have access to the large garden, and with high-quality finishing touches inside (including White Company bedding), the space offers a luxurious stay. Plus, you'll be conveniently close to the shops and restaurants of Aberfeldy, just a short walk away. 




The Sheltered Annexe

With stunning views of the lake and countryside, this home offers idyllic island living. There’s a small garden to relax in and more beautiful water vistas to enjoy from inside. For chilly evenings, there’s a log burner to snuggle up in front of, and there’s a modern, well-equipped kitchen for cooking some Scottish dishes. If you want to have a stroll around the lake, it’s a very short walk away. Or head over to nearby Dunvegan Castle and Garden, Neist Point, and Loch Greshornish. We’d recommend a car to get the most out of your stay in this magical place.

The Linnet's Nest

Unplug and unwind at this cosy retreat for two, hidden away in an idyllic country estate. Perched on the Scottish borders, you’re perfectly placed for day trips to North Scotland, Cumbria’s Hadrian’s Wall, and the coast of Solway Firth – all just forty minutes’ drive away. Or you could just stay holed up at the cottage and country grounds, steeped in history. Be sure to ask your hosts about the fascinating past of the estate – once a no man’s land and a haven to criminals. The host’s family owns the estate these days, so you’re in safe hands here. Follow the woodland path from the cottage and discover a wood-burning hot tub beneath a canopy of leaves. We hear watching the sunset peek through the trees as the woodland bats begin to fly is magical. Then fire up the barbecue for an evening dining under the stars. During the day, head down to the crystal-clear waters of the River Esk and over the suspension bridge for brisk walks in the estate's grounds. Then head home to get toasty beside the log burner before a long soak in the rolltop bath found in the elegant bedroom upstairs.

Woodland Cottage

Located just moments from the mythical Loch Ness, this cosy cottage is the country retreat you've been dreaming of. Fire up the wood-burning stove when you arrive and curl up for a memorable weekend in one of the UK's most beautiful landscapes.

The two-person home sits in the charming village of Drumnadrochit, where there are plenty of scenic walks and traditional pubs for you to enjoy. Urquhart Woods is five minutes from your front door, while in half an hour you can reach the crumbling castle that overlooks the lake. Inverness if just thirty minutes up the road, if you feel like breaking up the quiet time with an afternoon in Scotland's northernmost city. 

When you're not exploring, your cottage provides a tranquil haven that's designed for lazy mornings and relaxing evenings. Stick your favourite Netflix show on the TV as you wake up in the plush king-sized bed, and crack open the window so you can listen to the local birdsong. The kitchen is perfect for whipping up quick bites to enjoy at the breakfast bar – come Sunday, the nearest spot for a roast is just across the road.

Coillte Cottage

Set within a beautiful converted church overlooking the River Ness, this two-storey apartment places you on a quiet road close to everything that Inverness has to offer. An iconic pedestrian bridge offering easy access to the city's shopping and entertainment districts and no fewer than three fantastic restaurants right on your doorstep.

On the first floor, the cosy living room and sleek kitchen come equipped with everything you might need during your stay. From the comfort of the leather sofas, you can enjoy prints of old Inverness adorning the walls, while quirky stone windows offer views over the water down at floor level. Elsewhere, the entrance level offers a supremely comfortable king-size bedroom, with an en-suite equipped with a bath and a separate shower.

Your convenient riverside location comes with the added benefit of providing easy access to the main road out of the city, placing you within half an hour's drive of Loch Ness, Culloden and the Cairngorms National Park. Whisky lovers will appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a wee dram at any one of several local distilleries. Glen Moray is probably the best known and approximately an hour away – you'll just have to hope your travel partner is willing to be the designated driver.

Finally, for anyone looking to explore Scotland's stunning north coast further, Inverness is the jumping off point for the famed North Coast 500. This scenic 516-mile long route weaves a ring around the northern Highlands before ending back where you started, the beautiful city of Inverness.

Ring the Bells

Just outside Cannich, some forty-five minutes from Inverness by car, this cute little lodge is set among the trees and hills, close to the river. Ideal for two, it's a rural retreat in a peaceful, secluded part of the glorious Highlands. One for lovers of nature, writers and painters, it's a total escape from hectic daily life.
