Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

There were plenty of reasons why this penthouse apartment made it into our collection, but let's start with the most obvious. When guests step out onto the ornate white balcony, they're greeted with stunning views over the Dyfi Estuary and Cardigan Bay, stretching all the way down the Ceredigion Coastline. As is often the case with coastal locations, there's just so much sky and this uninterrupted panorama brings the added benefit of meaning the interior is flooded with natural light through the windows and skylights. This is emphasised pleasingly by the stark white walls and it makes for a wonderfully bright space to sprawl out on the tan leather sofa. As you can probably tell from looking out the window, Aberdyfi Beach sits just across the street and there are cafes and pubs along the seafront for when you fancy a refreshment. Slightly further afield, there are opportunities for birdwatching in RSPB Ynys-hir and Dyfi Osprey Project, both taking around half an hour to reach in the car.

Inside, you'll find rustic living spaces that exude warmth – it'll be hard to resist a Netflix movie night curled up in front of the roaring log burner – and we appreciate how interior bi-fold doors give you full control over the size of the living space. Home chefs can let loose in the kitchen, rustling up freshly-baked cakes and mouthwatering Sunday roasts to share around the eight-seater table. Upstairs, a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub before bedtime is just the ticket after a long day.

Speaking of, we can't help but swoon over the verdant, lush landscape that awaits you outside. Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

Just outside the picturesque village of Llanfrynach, on the grounds of a grade II*-listed Georgian mansion, this one-bedroom cottage is all about rest and relaxation. This former coach house has been converted into a stunning contemporary space. Downstairs, the sitting room boasts sky-high ceilings and ten-foot-tall French doors leading out onto a private patio. The wood burner and deerskin rugs on the floor add a cosy feeling that's perfect for the colder months, while during the summer, you can throw open those doors and let the outside in. The cottage actually has two patio areas – one facing east and the other west – so you can always catch the sun no matter the time of day. Upstairs, the bedroom welcomes you with exposed oak beams and a natural stone wall that perfectly complements the black wrought iron bed frame. Step across the hall to discover a beautiful bathroom with a double-ended tub and a walk-in shower. If you can tear yourself away, there are plenty of leisurely walks and challenging hikes directly from your front door. There are options for all levels, from high peaks to gentle canalside strolls and everything in between. Despite the secluded location, plenty of pubs and restaurants, as well as a supermarket, within a ten-minute drive. A cabin in the woods reimagined, this home belongs in the centrefold of a magazine. Traditional wooden panelling adds a rustic feel to this home, but it's nicely contrasted with a stylish monochrome palette and huge floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook a colourful sensory garden and pond. It's easy to spend an afternoon sitting on the south-facing deck, enjoying the peace of the Welsh countryside and keeping an eye out for the swallows, swifts, ducks and frogs living their lives on the water — even an otter has been spotted in the grounds by previous guests. Venturing out, two sandy beaches, Norman castles and a few quaint cafes await in the village of Llansteffan, which can be reached in eight minutes by car. This cottage was once the laundry in a manor house built in the fifteenth century and the original castellated archway remains. This is where the large glass doors lead through to the interior, which has been given a contemporary makeover in recent years. Oodles of natural daylight and the bright yellow walls give the space a sunny disposition, while a standalone log-burner will keep you toasty during the colder months. The sleek white kitchen is plenty large enough to make a mess in, while the honey-coloured bathroom looks like it could belong in a spa. Speaking of which, there's a treatment room on the premises where guests can book massages, manicures and pedicures. Beyond the twelve acres of private parkland that surrounds the property, there are plenty of walking routes in the surrounding Brecon Beacons National Park and the quaint town of Brecon is only ten minutes away in the car.

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape to the Brecon Beacons with a few luxuries thrown in, this is the cottage for you. Set within 12 acres of estate grounds, there are plenty of walks for dogs and humans alike. If you’re seriously into your hiking, then the trails right from the cottage’s front door into the peaks of the Brecon Beacons (including Pen Y Fan) won’t disappoint. For the more sedate option, follow the flat canal path into the charming town of Brecon for cafés and shops. On returning, treat yourself to a complimentary massage at The Treatment Studio in the estate. The cottage itself radiates history from its old stone walls and low, timber-beamed ceilings. A little library of books and wood-burner in the living room adds to that away-from-it-all feeling. In the kitchen and living room, the flagstone floor is heated underfoot so there’s no sacrificing comfort for aesthetics here. Snuggled at the southern point of Snowdonia National Park in Sarnau, this quaint abode is made for rural exploration. If you don't fancy the challenging terrains of Snowdon, there are various walking and cycling trails close by to the cottage.

If you'd prefer to get out and explore the nearby area, the encompassing landscape is blessed with numerous mountain biking trails. If two wheels aren't your scene, Bala is just four miles away and is an oasis of water sports, abseiling and kayaking.

Once you've explored the diverse scenery around your tranquil haven, visit the welcoming pubs and restaurants around Bala. For a real Welsh treat, a Michelin star restaurant resides up the road in Llandrillo.

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

Once the former shooting residence of the Earl of Marlborough, this charming Grade II listed cottage in the heart of Snowdonia carefully stitches together history and contemporary design. Original slate floors and a huge inglenook fireplace contrast against modern additions such as the sleek roll-top bath and luxurious hot tub. The kitchen is the heart of the home, where your clan will spend time eating, drinking and playing card games if it tips it down outside. Light the wood-burning stove to keep the chill at bay or warm up with a brisk walk to the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog – you’ll get there in under an hour if you go at a decent pace. Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

Perched on the banks of the Teifi estuary, this renovated former sea captain's villa in southwest Wales treats guests to some spectacular waterside views. When you can prise your eyes away from the beautiful scene outside, you'll find a modern interior that integrates rustic aspects, such as exposed brickwork and a wood-burning fireplace, seamlessly. If you're in need of inspiration, all you have to do is follow the Teifi — half an hour's walk west will get you to Poppit Sands Beach, while the same amount of time in the opposite direction will take you to the town of Cardigan.

Sitting in the middle of the tiny Snowdonian village of Dinas Mawddwy, this building was once the locale's Wesleyan chapel, but today it's been respectfully converted into a rather remarkable place to stay.

Plenty of the period features remain, including the original brickwork, pew seats at the dining table and the tall lancet windows that look out to Welsh hillsides, as well as bathing the interior with natural light. However, it's also fair to say that the living quarters have been brought up to the standards expected from 21st-century travellers, particularly in the case of the super-sleek kitchen and the large games room complete with tables for pool and foosball.

Despite this architectural setting, some of the biggest perks lie outside the stone walls. Not only is there a terrace on which to sit out around the fire pit, but guests are also treated to a hot tub, which is naturally the best seat from which to admire the stunning surroundings. 

It's fair to say that those fond of the great outdoors couldn't wish for a better location. Cader Idris is ten miles away if you're in the mood for a challenging hike, while it doesn't take too long to reach the coastline when the weather calls for a day on the beach. Closer to home – much closer in fact – the village has a local gastropub only a minute's walk from the front door.

Set on the outskirts of the pretty village of Llanfrynach, on the grounds of a grade II*-listed Georgian mansion, this quaint cottage offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The home has been lovingly converted from a workers' house into a contemporary home by your hosts, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. Step inside and head through to the open-plan living room, complete with an atmospheric wood burner and a dining table with plenty of space. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need to prepare picnic lunches to keep you fuelled up on hikes, plus more elaborate dinners at the end of a long day out in nature. There are plenty of trails leading straight from the front door up onto the high peaks of the Brecon Beacons. Alternatively, enjoy more leisurely strolls along the canal. Despite the easy access to the pristine landscapes, you'll find plenty of pubs and restaurants, as well as a supermarket, within a ten-minute drive. Finally, there's an on-site treatment room where you can indulge in various therapy treatments ranging from manicures to deep tissue massages after a hard day hiking in the hills.

A tranquil country getaway in Wales, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Every day can be a new adventure of discovering what Pembrokeshire offers. Start by catching some waves on the coast and surfing. If that's not your thing, try sea kayaking – Pembrokeshire's fresh Atlantic seas, incredible coastal scenic views, and astounding variety of wildlife make it a kayaking paddler's paradise. After a day of swimming around, we recommend stopping by a cafe for some tea and Welshcakes.

You'll feel pampered when you return to your cosy home, from a welcoming living room decorated with plush sofas to polished wooden floors and a fireplace to make you feel at ease. The baby blue kitchen is gorgeous, perfect for preparing a hearty meal after a day of seaside adventures. You'll find everything you need for a relaxing coastal retreat in this charming house, be it board games and books or ping-pong and Prime. Every inch is warm and welcoming, with cushy sofas, a crackling wood stove and a contemporary kitchen/diner ideal for rustling up homecooked meals. Upstairs, two sumptuous bedrooms promise a restful night's sleep, but what we love most is the sunlit courtyard. We think it's the perfect spot to lounge with a cup of tea or a refreshing G&T as the day draws to a close. 

Newport is a pretty market town on the north coast of Pembrokeshire, situated at the foot of Carnigli Mountain and the Preseli Hills. There's an array of eateries, including small cafes and old-fashioned pubs, within walking distance, as well as independent shops and galleries. On a clear day, you might be able to spot the blue sea views in the distance. After all, this home resides only a seven-minute stroll away from the sandy shores of Abersoch Beach. 

After a fun-filled day of soaking up the quintessential British seaside experience or following a round of golf at Abersoch Golf Club – head home to unwind over a group barbecue on the terrace. With the local park and playground located a minute's walk away, you'll find keeping the kids entertained here an absolute breeze. Since the home is gated, rest assured in knowing that younger children can also play freely in the garden at their own leisure. 

Come evening time; you'll have the choice of strolling down to one of the local pubs for a nightcap or curling up in front of the fireplace for a cosy night in. But at the end of a long day amidst the fresh sea air – where better to sip your glass of wine than from the large free-standing bathtub? Oh, and the underfloor heating makes getting out of the bath that little bit easier too. 



The Abersoch Appeal

Once a working dairy, this stone cottage at the foot of the Brecon Beacons encompasses the country idyll. The enclosed garden offers outdoor dining and a place for dogs to run around safely, and you’re on a 12-acre estate with no livestock so there are plenty of walkies for furry friends. Exposed timber beams in the bedroom and (heated) flagstone floor speak of the building’s history, and splashes of crimson and green are reminiscent of the Welsh flag. In the living room, you’ll find everything you need to keep the wood-burning going in the evening and the granite-topped kitchen provides all the appliances and crockery required for self-catering. Though if you want to dine out, there’s a village pub a five-minute walk away. In terms of location, hikers and walkers will delight in trails up to the Brecon Beacon peaks, right from the doorstep. And those that like a more sedate ramble can follow the canal path nearby. After a day on your feet, guests of this cottage enjoy access to The Treatment Room where a complimentary massage can work out those aches and pains. 

A Glass And A Half

It was love at first sight when we clapped our eyes on this eco shepherd's hut, squirreled away in the sleepy village of Moylegrove along the North Pembrokeshire coastline.

With the mighty Pembrokeshire Coast National Park just a stone's throw away, this is a home to embrace the great outdoors and escape the outside world. Discover vast beaches and secluded, sandy coves just a fifteen-minute walk away. Embrace the sea with kayaking and dolphin-spotting boat trips. Or, for something a little more genteel, there are independent shops, galleries and fabulous restaurants just a short drive away in the nearby villages.

Back at home, we love the contemporary design aesthetic of this shepherd's hut, with copper and matt black accents letting the birch-clad interiors sing. A king-sized bed decked out in Egyptian cotton sheets and a rainfall shower room next door dial up the luxury. And the welcome hamper crammed with organic goodies (think fresh eggs straight from the host's hens and homemade bread) has everything you need to rustle up breakfast in the smart kitchenette. Or, let your host, Megan cook up a feast for you over at the main house.

A home for all seasons, in winter months, hunker down beside the wood-burning fire as sunsets stream through the picture windows. And in the summer months, see day turn to night beside the fire-pit (which handily doubles as your barbecue) – the stargazing is out of this world.

Inside, this 16th Century home has been lovingly converted with carefully curated vintage-style interiors. And outside, a quaint private garden for alfresco barbecues, and a babbling brook for company, you may have no desire to venture out. But really, you must. The mountainous landscapes are the perfect playground for walkers and nature-lovers. Take off into the Welsh wilderness to discover the region's famed waterfall, nicknamed Water-Break-its-Neck (a one-hour gentle stroll). 

And when thoughts turn to food, you're close to a great selection of eateries serving hearty British meals. The village of Old Radnor is just a short drive away, where you'll find an award-winning ancient longhouse inn serving Sunday lunches with unparalleled views across the Radnor Valley. 

Whinyard Rocks

Tucked away in a secluded valley, this cottage offers an escape from it all. Sure, its traditional style may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s well-equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Better still, the famous mountains of Snowdon and the castles of Powis and Chirk are also within an hour’s drive. And as the day draws to a close, retreat back to your abode for a long, hot soak in the Victorian-style roll-top bath and an early night in silent bedrooms.
