This wonderful apartment will have the whole family singing its praises after a stay. Located on the ground floor of a large Victorian house, it's the ideal place to call home during a stay on the Gower Peninsul, one of Wales' best-loved spots. 

The house retains much of its original character – you'll love the period fireplaces, patterned floor tiles, and huge bay window that frames the gorgeous sea views. On sunny days, you can head outside for a closer look and sip a cup of coffee on the patio while the kids explore the sprawling shared gardens. When you get hungry, you can whip up your favourite dishes in the kitchen to share around the handsome dining table. And, there's no better way to round off an evening than with a singsong around the baby grand piano, or a tune on the Victorian harmonium. 

From here, you can join the coastal path to wander down into the heart of The Mumbles and treat yourself to an ice cream on the beach. Make sure you pay a visit to the historic pier then sip a pint of local ale in one of the charming pubs. And, if you walk in the opposite direction, you'll find plenty of wonderful sandy coves, including Caswell Bay and Pwll Du Beach.

This warm and comfortable home is a great base for a family break. It’s ideally situated close to the shops, galleries and cafes of the Mumbles, as well as the beach – and there’s even an outdoor shower in the courtyard garden for you to rinse off sandy toes. When you want to explore further afield, you can drive along the Gower Peninsula to visit historic castles, stroll along the coast, and check out the beaches. This period home isn’t the flashiest in our collection, but we think it’s a homey spot and we love the location.

Inside, this home feels expansive yet full of charm. Discover countless cosy snugs with obligatory wood-burning fires to curl up beside and a table tennis table and snooker table if you fancy a change of pace. While upstairs, each elegant bedroom with its own ensuite offers up sensational vistas of the bay.

But it's back downstairs in that open-plan kitchen and dining area leading out on the magnificent terrace that's the real clincher. Slide back the bifolds and start your morning with coffees on the terrace or toast the day's end with sunset mealtimes around the dining table – those sea views will be right there with you. 

When it's time to blow the cobwebs away, Three Cliffs Bay and Oxwich Bay (both dog-friendly) offer a plethora of walks for every ability. Or head for the giant dunes on either side of Three Cliffs valley – a hit for kids (and big kids).
 
When tummies start to rumble, you're just a five-minute drive from postcard-pretty Oxwich, or in the opposite direction, Parkmill with local inns aplenty for all the hearty grub, real ales, and warm welcomes you're chasing.

Gower Power

Right outside the window, the wild Atlantic stretches before you at this cosy little cottage on Swansea Bay. It’s in Mumbles, a seaside suburb with a Victorian pier, a long sweep of sandy beach and a medieval castle. We’re not exaggerating when we say the beach is mere footsteps away, just across the road. From here, you can follow the traffic-free walking path along the coast to Swansea, or to the wild headland in the other direction.

Returning to this cottage after a brisk seaside walk is a delight, especially with the electric fireplace glowing in the living room. You can watch the waves from the comfy sofa, thanks to the big sash window in the living room. There’s a dining table in here too, or you can opt for the more casual breakfast table in the full kitchen. Upstairs, the sea view continues in plush bedrooms and the loft landing is home to a bean-bag-strewn hang-out den. The piece de resistance is the private walled garden out the back with a cute wrought-iron dining set for an evening tipple in the sun.

A stone’s throw from the award-winning Port Eynon beach, this traditional, white cottage sits in the centre of the charming village. Apart from the Blue Flag beach on your doorstep, you’ve also got the Gower Peninsula’s oldest pub just around the corner. Along the coast from Port Eynon Beach, pet-friendly Horton Beach is the perfect spot for a dog walk and a walking trail from here leads over the clifftops to Oxwich Bay.

Our favourite thing about this delightful cottage has to be the garden. Bursting with flowers and shrubs, it’s a little haven from the otherwise rugged seaside landscape. Out here, you can sit in the shade of the pergola with a good book or take your morning coffee on the patio. 

Two sitting rooms inside are equally cosy-warm, thanks to wood-burning stoves (your host provides a bundle of logs). The kitchen, with its range-style cooker and Belfast ceramic sink, is a picture of farmhouse charm. Then there’s the leather sleigh bed in the master bedroom for a spot of luxury come nightfall.

If you want to get off the beaten track, then this coastal cottage is perfect for you. Only accessible via a rough track, it's a secluded spot by the sea where you can switch off and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. 

The building dates back to the beginning of the eighteenth century, and blends its long history with modern comforts. You'll love the wooden beams and inglenook fireplace – on chilly evenings, you can light up the stove and get cosy. When the sun is shining, you can head outside to enjoy some alfresco drinks on the patio while the kids play on the lawn. And, you'll even have company – there is a family of friendly chickens who will happily provide you with eggs for your morning omelette.

As the home is right on the beach, you'll love spending time beside the water, admiring the views and even paddling on warm days. Location-wise, it’s hard to beat this Swansea apartment, close to the city’s best bits. This place will suit large groups or families who plan to spend most of their time on the go, whether that’s surfing at Rhossili Bay, walking clifftop paths, or exploring Swansea. The space might not be the most stylish, but the modern interiors are comfortable and functional. If the sun is shining, there’s an outdoor dinner set for alfresco dining in the garden.

We love the subtle coastal theme that runs through this home, creating a light, airy, and comfortable feel to the place. The modernity is balanced out by traditional touches, such as the cast iron log burner, the conservatory, and of course, the country house-style kitchen. It's a sociable space, opening up the floor to chats, board games, drinks, and so on. The conservatory leads you out to the idyllic garden – we can just picture the lovely the breakfasts spreads out in the fresh morning air, sipping on cups of tea while planning the day ahead.

You’ll find amenities, like pubs and shops, just a short walk away, and the region’s notable sights are within easy reach too. Visit Parc Le Breos, Llangennith beach,. Cefn Bryn, and more. The cottage is cosy and quaint – it’s not a luxurious home, and some of the decor is a little dated, but it’s a lovely space to relax after kicking off your walking boots or sandy shoes. It's not a newly built cottage, so expect steep and narrow steps. The sunny garden is the highlight, and we’re fans of the log-burning fireplace too

Make yourself comfortable on the plump sofa with a book and mug of tea – pausing now and then to take in the majesty of your locale – before gathering for a celebratory meal at the window-side table while the sun sets over the water below. At night, the king-size bed beckons a seamless night’s sleep, sure to leave you rested and ready for another day of sightseeing. 

Speaking of exploring, take a stroll around the building’s terraced garden, then saunter along the coastal path to Rotherslade (about twenty minutes) where there’s a charming beachside cafe. Our recommendation? Grab a cone from Forte’s Ice Cream Parlour and stroll to Bracelet Bay (nine minutes) before continuing on to Mumbles Pier (twelve minutes) and Mumbles Beach (twenty minutes).

Perched on a hillside overlooking the dramatic Whiteford Sands, you'll find this fabulous holiday home. Perfect for families, it's the ideal place to press pause on everyday life and explore the dramatic Gower coastline together. 

The house has two lounges, meaning that there's space for everyone to find their own little patch of peace and quiet. One of the sitting rooms has its own wood-burning stove, and the host has even provided some board games and craft supplies to entertain you. On sunny days, the kids can run wild in the extensive garden, with its slide and swing, while you relax with a glass of wine. And, come evening, the whole gang can gather to enjoy a barbeque on the patio as the sun goes down. 

Whiteford Sands is a ten-minute car drive away, and offers a two-mile stretch of sand – take a bracing walk in the winter, or go paddling in the summer. The neighbouring village of Llanmadoc has a pub and a community shop, and you can drive into Swansea in half an hour. And, if you're a fan of the great outdoors, then there are plenty of options nearby, from rock climbing and abseiling to sea kayaking.

Serenely positioned on the edge of a golf course, this cottage is bright and welcoming, with lovely angular skylights that illuminate the living areas and kitchen. We love the coastal, beachy feel, with deep blue furniture and curtains that contrast the pristine white walls. Put the massive kitchen to good use and start preparing a meal for the whole group to enjoy around the large wooden dining table, positioned with beautiful views of the surrounding greenery. Then head out onto the patio for a cocktail alongside the area's striking sunsets. You’ll be just a thirty minutes’ walk to the stunning Three Cliffs Bay – stop at the 12th-century ruins of Pennard Castle on the way, grab a bite at the popular Three Cliffs coffee shop or join the Wales Coastal Path for impressive views. Golfers, hikers and beach-goers will appreciate this wonderfully comfortable base, set in the middle of a gorgeous stretch of countryside and coast.

Jutting off the south coast of Wales, the Gower peninsula was the first area in the UK to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but it's not just the bucolic landscape that's worthy of praise – homes like this deserve a share of the credit, too.

From the front, the stone facade looks as rustic as can be, but you'll see that plenty of modern additions have been made in recent years. It's hard to pick out a standout space – the light-filling dining room with bifold doors will elevate even the most mundane of breakfasts, while the living room with the log-burning fireplace and snooker table has all the cosiness of your favourite pub. The minimalist kitchen replete with sleek surfaces is also another strong contender.

You'll also be happy to learn that the address is blessed with excellent outdoor space, too. The patio immediately through the glass doors has an alfresco dining table that's ready and waiting for summer feasts, plus there's also a well-kept lawn as well. To top it all off, there are peaceful sea views to be admired on the far horizon, too.

If this tempts you to make a trip to the seaside, you don't have too far to travel. Oxwich Bay can be reached in fifteen minutes on foot and continues along to the limestone formations of Three Cliffs Bay. Nicholaston Wood is just over five minutes' walk away too and makes for a peaceful place to wander about.

Get way off the beaten track at this gorgeous former smugglers' cottage on the stunning Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In fact, it's so off-grid that you'll be required to leave your car in a secure spot and decamp into your host's Land Rover for the final mile, setting off down a rutted path and fording a stream before pulling up outside – setting the tone for an adventurous stay in the Welsh Wilderness.

First appearing in local records around 1700, the original part of this cottage is thought to be considerably older. After all, it wouldn't have served as a store for illicit contraband if its existence was known to everyone. Over time, it's been restored to create a rustic retreat that's equipped with all the mod cons required for a comfortable stay, including underfloor heating, a rolltop bath and an inglenook fireplace.

Another standout feature of this home is the charming cottage garden to the rear. Relax and breathe in the sea air as you sit out and sip a cup of tea out on the wildflower-dotted lawn before helping yourself to some fresh eggs, courtesy of the obliging hens.

A stay here is for those seeking those sought-after modern luxuries of peace and tranquillity – an all-too-rare chance to disconnect from the frenetic pace of life and enjoy setting fires to cook the catch of the day on the beach and moonlit swims in the sea. But, however long you decide to stay, we bet you'll wish it was longer.

Where do we start with this enormous home in the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? With enough beds to sleep a large group of friends or an extended family, it's truly somewhere special. The manor house dates back to the 1600s and is elegant and traditional in style, with a large drawing room and a dining space that's big enough for everyone to eat together. There are also plenty of extras that truly give this home the 'wow' factor – you'll love the indoor heated pool, sauna and children's lounge with a pool table and pinball. Just a stroll from Oxwich Bay's long sandy beach, dubbed one of the finest in the country, this spacious home dates back to the 1840s. Extended and smartly modernised over the years, it still retains much of its old-world charm, with wood beams (thought to have been originally taken from a local shipwreck) and a delightful stone fireplace in the cosy living room – perfect for winter escapes. But if you're visiting in the summer months, this home has a rather special feature. In its private, walled courtyard you'll find a heated swimming pool.

Set on the crest of a hill, there are some excellent sea views to be had from the first floor – including from the roll-top bathtub. Cooking at home will be a breeze in the large and well-equipped kitchen and if you're lucky with the weather you can choose to barbecue down by the pool.

Just a short walk from a restaurant and a hotel, there's also a local castle to explore and some of the best coastal footpaths are easily accessed from your door. Further afield, Rhossili is just a seventeen-minute drive and The Mumbles is twenty-five minutes away.

Although within easy reach of plenty of shops and restaurants, this elevated home feels like a secluded oasis with its sky-scratching position above the sea.

Out in the wilds of the Gower peninsula, this traditionally-built stone house makes for a grand country retreat. Walking trails snake across the land, and following fields and footpaths can see you at the local Llangennith pub in twenty minutes or perhaps stop at the general store for home baking and a hot coffee. Hopping in the car, you can be at Whiteford Beach Car Park in eight minutes for a glorious walk to the empty beaches of the Gower coast, while Swansea is just a forty-minute drive away.

At the home itself, you’re on a hill, giving you a fabulous panorama of fields and forest as far as the eye can see. Perhaps enjoy lunch at the picnic tables on the decking as you take in the view. Six acres of wildland surround the home, so there's plenty of space for kids to run around and you might encounter the resident sheep, keeping the grass cut.

If the wind gets too much, head inside to the cosy living room where a wooden-beamed ceiling retains an old farmhouse feel, especially with a fire crackling away in the wood-burner.
