We may have found the most adorable home for two. This former milking parlour is one of a small group of cottages in the heart of the Anglesey countryside. Rural, secluded and perfectly in tune with nature, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down. Wander down secret paths in the extensive grounds then take a seat on the deck to watch the dragonflies hovering above the water. The fishing lake is well stocked and there can surely be few more idyllic places for casting a line. Inside the single-storey stone cottage, you’ll find pine furniture, pretty coordinating fabrics and a log burner to warm your toes by. With Anglesey’s dramatic coastline just a short drive away, big surf and blustery coastal walks are in plentiful supply. Stock up for supper in the bustling market town of Llangefni, before hunkering down for the night together.

Known for its picturesque beaches, stunning coastal path and ancient sites, Anglesey is an unspoilt haven for walking, cycling and relaxing in the fresh air. You'll find this charming cottage in the centre of the island, only a fifteen-minute drive from Lligwy Beach (perfect for seaside walks), twenty from Rhosneigr (a surfing hub) and thirty from the mainland. Set on a former farm, this traditional white painted home fully embodies country charm. Think high ceilings lined with timber beams, exposed stone walls and an utterly cosy wood-burning stove. Start the day with breakfast around the dining nook, then set off and explore the sprawling grounds and rolling hills that surround you. Wander down the path towards the on-site fishing lake, where you can sit on the deck with your feet trailing in the water and cast a line or two – you might even catch your supper. There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. The Bodnant Estate offers ten luxury self-catering cottages, including Ty Newydd, sleeping eight guests, and Lletty, sleeping six guests. The estate features hilly and wooded countryside in the lower reaches of the Conwy Valley and various houses and cottages available for rent as holiday lets. The cozy cottage has been sympathetically extended to provide generous openings between the main rooms and includes a wood-burning stove, oak floors, an enclosed garden, garden furniture, barbecue, and Wi-Fi. Guests can explore over 20 miles of private paths winding through woods and farms across the estate or visit the world-famous Bodnant Garden owned by the National Trust. Fishing permits are available at Bodnant Garden Centre. Other nearby attractions include Zip World Fforest, Adventure Parc Snowdonia, Welsh Mountain Zoo, sandy beaches of Llandudno, Conwy and Colwyn Bay, Penrhyn Castle and several Welsh castles.

The Time Machine

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

Paths to Dawn

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Farmer & Grain

The picturesque town of Caernarfon is a truly lovely part of Wales. You can spend your days strolling along the waterfront, exploring the countryside and moorland nearby, or taking in the beautiful scenery. Glorious Snowdonia National Park is a short drive away, so hikers will want to pack their boots. 

This lovely apartment sits amid the town’s narrow streets, just a four-minute walk from the 13th-century Caernarfon Castle. History buffs will love visiting this UNESCO World Heritage site, which serves as an attractive backdrop for this delightful town. 

The apartment is within a Grade II listed building, but inside, it’s been brought right up to date. It’s warm and cosy, with all the modern amenities you might need for a break in Wales. When you’re not curled up on the sofa chatting and watching movies, you’ll be sitting out on the patio, enjoying the fresh air. Grab a takeaway and sit out late in summer, dining under the stars. You’ll sleep well in the top-notch bedding, ready for another day in this wonderful part of Wales.

Escape to stunning Snowdonia National Park where you’ll find this charming cottage complete with all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay in the Welsh countryside. What this place lacks in state-of-the-art facilities, it more than makes up for in home comforts, boasting cosy living and sleeping quarters that’ll make you feel at ease the second you step over the threshold. Spend your evenings snuggled up by the fire, your favourite song playing on the record player, or head outside for a spot of stargazing in the garden before retiring to your comfy bedroom for a good night’s rest. 

If you fancy getting out and about when you wake up, there are plenty of destinations to choose from. Go for a walk in the shadow of Mount Snowdon, treat yourself to a hearty pub lunch in nearby Dolwyddelan, or pack your bucket and spade and set off for a day of sun, surf, and sand at the nearest beach. Then, when you've had your fill of the great outdoors, come home and unwind with a board game in the conservatory. Anyone for Monopoly? 

Wolf Cottage

This whitewashed converted farmhouse is a wonderful choice for welcoming families or groups of friends to enjoy the beauty of the Llyn Peninsula. Surrounded by vast greenery and steps away from the coast, it's a fairytale getaway come to life.

This home might be a traditional farmhouse from the outside, but the interior is sleek, contemporary, and comfortable. Here, you can shed the daily grind and embrace a slower pace of life, while still keeping ahold of modern comforts. Lovely accents of green brighten up the home, which is cloaked in soothing shades of grey. But that's not to say it isn't without its traditional charm. The original stone fireplace stands in front of centre of the dining room, while the warmth of the wood burner permeates the home. And perhaps most importantly, the country house-style kitchen provides the perfect social space, capturing what people love about country homes – making memories with family and friends.

You'd be hard-pressed to find somewhere as scenic and relaxing as the Llyn Peninsula. Walkers will revel in the famous Llyn Coastal Path, which leads you onto the lovely beaches of Porth Towyn and Porth Ysgaden. The area's Irish Sea stems off into emerald pools, backed by hills carpeted in lush grass and flowers – it's truly enchanting. The area is also teeming with quaint towns and villages, like Tudweiliog – just a twenty-minute stroll away. 

The Sounds of the Swells

Sitting at the foot of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, this cottage is the perfect jumping-off point to explore everything that the nearby national park has to offer. 

With room for four guests, it's ideal for a family getaway. Of course, climbing the famous Snowdon has to be the main draw, but the hilly trails are also great for cycling, and calm lakes are perfect for stand-up paddleboarding. Thrill-seekers can be sure to get their kicks too at the world's fastest zipline, just 10 miles away. 

The surrounding village has a couple of cafes within a short stroll, where you can fuel your body each morning, while lakeside Llanberis is just 4 miles away – it's here that you'll find the start of the Snowdonia trail. Elsewhere the grand medieval town of Caernarfon sits on the coast, a fifteen-minute drive from your front door – its Unesco-recognised castle is well worth exploring.

After a long day of adventures, this cosy cottage is the perfect spot to return to. Dine outside at the south-facing picnic table in the summer months. On chilly nights rustle up warming Welsh fare in the dine-in kitchen before settling down in front of the flame-effect stove, set beautifully in exposed stonework – utter bliss. 

Slate Miner's Cottage

Clustered together, these three stony cottages are the perfect solution to family reunions or large group holidays. By splitting eighteen guests into three smaller groups, the bright homes ensure everyone's privacy whilst also providing communal spaces in which to make memories. Sit out on the picnic benches to enjoy meals alfresco, or spend evenings socialising with pints. Take to the leafy shade of the nearby tree and enjoy tea and Welsh cakes for makeshift afternoon tea, and when you want to move indoors, choose the largest of the three cottages to make use of the space on offer. The largest cottage also has a ground floor bedroom and wetroom with disability access if anyone in the group does have reduced mobility. 

Stargaze in the garden after sunset, enjoy the green landscapes visible from the patio, and when you need a moment to yourself, watch the sunrise with your first cup of coffee from the small bistro table outside.
