This barn has been lovingly restored into a stylish home. We adore the Usk Valley vistas from the patio windows, and if you look up, you get a view of the sky through the glazed ceiling. 

The impressive living space is perfect for entertaining your family and friends. There's plenty of room on the two comfy grey sofas for your guests and a selection of books and games to keep the gang occupied. Whip up some Welsh rarebit for lunch in the modern kitchen with its island, or head outside and grill some local produce on the barbecue. Later relax in the hot tub with a glass of wine or next to the toasty fire pit.

There's lots to do out and about, too. Llandegfedd reservoir, with all its watersports, great fishing, walking and cycling, is just over 1 mile away, while the charming market town of Usk has many independent boutiques and several cafes and restaurants (2.2 miles from this home). Other attractions include Raglan Castle, Brecon Beacons National Park, Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Chepstow Castle and Chepstow Racecourse.

You're in for a surprise as you enter this converted barn on a farm near the town of Usk. A far cry from the period features and chintz you may expect in a home like this, it's been designed with plenty of contemporary flair. Bright and open, and with a superb glass roof over the sitting area, it's all crisp white walls, anthracite framed windows and modern wood floors.

Floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor open it right up to the patio and there's a choice between eating at the dining table or outside on fine days. And while the high-spec kitchen is perfectly practical for cooking at home, there's also the option of a barbecue. Three excellent en-suite bedrooms top off the accommodation but there's a little secret this home has been holding back – it's also got a private hot tub and a fire pit in the garden.

Just a little over two miles from Usk, it's close to the local reservoir, where you can book all sorts of water sports, and there's a golf course nearby too. Whether you're exploring the area by foot or by bike, it's a great spot on a charming smallholding – perfect for all the family and with fields and sheep as far as the eye can see.

Rolling countryside as far as the eye can see and quaint villages tucked into the valleys of Monmouthshire on your doorstep – this converted stone barn is an idyllic getaway. It’s a six-minute drive to the centre of Raglan where you can explore castle ruins, pop in to one of the cosy pubs or stock up at the traditional butcher and the local village shop. Further afield you’ll find the charming market town of Monmouth a fifteen-minute drive away. The home is blissfully quiet, with nothing but the occasional bleat of sheep or whinny of a horse in the surrounding fields. Out here, away from it all, you can see the canopy of stars from the private garden. During the day, this spot is perfect for a family barbecue, with dining on the patio. Inside, it’s open-plan living made cosy with a wood-burning stove set in the old stone wall of the living room. Period features like the old timber frame and arrow-slit windows have been retained, showing off the age of the building. The Aga and Belfast sink in the kitchen keep that farmhouse feel, perfect when paired with farm-fresh produce from the hole-in-the-wall farm shop just down the road.

Set on a working farm between Monmouth and Abergavenny, this home promises a peaceful escape surrounded by nature. If you don’t feel like going too far, you’ll find a natural swimming pond and 100 acres of land to roam here, along with the Offa's Dyke Path. If that’s not enough, hikers can also enjoy the trails of the Black Mountains, in the southeast corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Of course, you may prefer to kick back and relax during your stay – if so, the wood-fired hot tub, rolltop bath, and wood burner are ready to take your vacation relaxation to the next level.

These luxurious shepherd’s huts are an excellent choice for a romantic retreat. This quirky home can be found in a secluded meadow on the edge of a natural wood, close to the ancient settlement of Penterry. There are stunning views to be discovered nearby, and you can relax and unwind amid the tranquillity of the Wye Valley. The bathroom, with a bathtub and separate shower, is in a separate shepherd’s hut, while the petite kitchen and bedroom are in a studio layout in the main hut. Space is limited, but the setting more than makes up for that.

With breathtaking panoramas from every vantage point, this home is a gem. You'll be able to enjoy the views from the private hot tub and garden – although our favourite is the glimpses of the River Severn and Old Severn Bridge from the main bedroom. There’s the all-important log burner for when the weather gets chillier, too. This home is set on a working dairy farm, and your host is happy to give you a tour of the farm – something the kids will probably adore. Just bear in mind, at certain times of the year, the farm can be busy. When you feel like exploring a little further afield, you can visit Chepstow Castle or Lydney in the Forest of Dean.

Get off the beaten track at this remote retreat set deep within the Herefordshire countryside, close to the Welsh border. Originally the farm's dairy, it's been lovingly converted from a derelict outbuilding to stylish home from home in just a few short years.

Inside, discover a cute contemporary farmhouse style, with beautiful natural stone flooring, a sleek kitchen and an inviting seating area placed within warming distance of the wood burner.

The star of the show has got to be the wood-fired hot tub, with views across to the Monnow Valley. Spend your days hiking through the hills with your dogs, before hosing them down at the outside tap and jumping into the warm water – we can't help but feel that the dog's getting the raw end of the deal here.

Speaking of walks, there are plenty of public footpaths that pass across the farm, with your hosts able to provide OS maps and walking books should you need them. If you want to venture further afield, why not head up the Skirrid, Sugar Loaf and Black Mountains – all viewable from the garden.

The main house having been extended, the old stable unit was transformed into an architect-designed annexe with a series of split-level suites that wouldn't look out of place in a boutique hotel in Shoreditch.

The huge, 40ft kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need to cook for your group, with an incredible four ovens, five hobs and two dishwashers, or you can take the hard work out of it by hiring a private chef. You'll have four main living spaces with enough room to get together as a large group or enjoy a bit of privacy, and there are all sorts of outdoor seating spots – including a fire pit area, dining terrace and an Aussie-style shack enjoying views across the valley.

A lot of time and thought has been put into converting the historic chapel that is now The Burrow. Nestled in a tranquil spot of countryside surrounded by rolling hills, the space feels authentically rustic but still comfortable and elegant. The tall arch windows provide floods of natural light and beautiful views of the landscape, including the inviting (and heated) swimming pool. While remote location would be difficult for guests without a car, it also makes it a great spot for a romantic getaway.

Mingle with the movers, shakers, and millionaires in its gastropubs, independent shops, and art galleries. Or don your walking boots for bracing country walks – the house has direct access to a quiet lane leading onto the rolling countryside surrounding Bruton.

Back home, there’s room for all ten of you to pile into this magnificent three-storey home. Filled to the rafters with Georgian architectural details, original flagstone floors and exposed brickwork archways strike a note of authenticity, while a contemporary extension housing the open concept living space is firmly in the 21st century. And we love how pared back and gloriously clutter-free everywhere feels, allowing the contemporary artwork and vintage statement furniture to do all the talking.

On sunny mornings, spill out into the garden room and slide back the French doors onto the suntrap patio – there’s an outdoor dining area complete with a built-in barbecue that’s prime for lazy breakfasts or alfresco evening meals. The popular Plas Farm Trail passes right by the cottage's front door, and a short road leads you down to the banks of the River Clydach then into a private bluebell wood. A twenty-minute car ride will bring you to the Brecon Beacons, where you can try your hand at a range of outdoor activities including rock climbing and kayaking. And, if you fancy a day at the seaside, you can drive to the Gower Peninsula in forty minutes to discover hidden beaches.

Make yourself a cup of tea and take it outside to your private riverside terrace, where the sound of the water cascading along the rocky riverbed and the many birds that visit it is all you need to feel content. Part of a small complex of cottages, around a central courtyard, it's set in an estate boasting more than a hundred acres of land – including hillside meadows, woodland and streams. 

The building you'll be calling home was once part of the home farm for the impressive Plas Cilybebyll Estate and was most likely stables and grooms' quarters – although some of its stone features hark back to the estate's noble history. Dive into its fascinating past and you'll spot links to the descendants of the ancient Welsh kings, the Norman invasion, Iolo Morgannwg and more. You'll even find an arrow slit in the lounge and another in the ground floor wet room wall.

Cleverly converted and architect designed, this home uses green energy and is insulated with sheep's wool. It's a surprisingly modern and comfortable home for a small family or a couple of friends here to make the most of its idyllic rural setting. By day, explore the farm thanks to a trail that starts at your door, visiting cattle and spotting wildlife as you go. If you're a keen cyclist, you're within striking distance of the Afan Forest and Bike Park Wales, with safe storage for your equipment.

Just an eight-minute drive from the town of Pontardawe and less than half an hour from Swansea, you'll feel as though this fairytale setting is tucked well away from the rest of the world.

Features like the exposed stone fireplace preserve the history of the home, while the well-thought-out decor brings it up to date. Being tucked away on a side street, it’s a quiet, tranquil spot, but it’s still central – so you can still easily explore Bath on foot. The generous kitchen and dining area and the various communal spaces make it a great fit for families.

Say fare thee well to your regular life – it's time to live out your knight's tale fantasies at this extraordinary Medieval manor house. This home dates back to the twelfth century and was even owned by Henry VIII a couple of centuries later. As soon as the moment you step through the gigantic wooden door, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. 

You’ll have access to the first and second floor of the home, which are packed with historic charm and traditional details. We love the spiral staircases and narrow corridors leading to cosy corners and antique furniture. Exposed stone walls and dark timber beams add to the characterful decor of this memorable home. The master bedroom features a wood-carved four-poster bed with intricate artistry, and a roll-top bath in the nearby bathroom. 

In the kitchen, it's easy to imagine the cooks of yesteryear bustling about the hearth while preparing a banquet for the Lord of the house. Happily, things are a little easier these days – there’s now a beautiful farmhouse kitchen with a range cooker. When you’ve whipped up a feast fit for a king, it can be served at the nine-foot table, where you’ll sit until late sipping wine and catching up. 

The Wye Valley is on your doorstep with its crumbling castle ruins, Arthurian landmarks, and quiet market towns. A ten-minute walk takes you into Caldicot centre, buzzing with cafes, shops and a handy train station. Yet the manor's sprawling grounds and walled rose gardens make it feel as though you’re away from it all.

It’s between Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, so you’ll be perfectly positioned to explore the Brecon Beacons and the area’s delightful towns and villages. Searching for somewhere off the beaten track? It’s time to stop scrolling. Nestled in the Forest of Dean, this home has tranquillity at its core. Perfect for a family, four-legged friends included, the fully-fenced garden offers somewhere to sit back and listen to the sound of nature – just keep an eye on children and dogs, as although the trout pond is fenced with gated access, you can never be too safe. Exploring locally, you can take to the trails through the forest where if you’re lucky, you may even spot some wild boar and deer.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.


The Cotswold Cedar

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape to the Brecon Beacons with a few luxuries thrown in, this is the cottage for you. Set within 12 acres of estate grounds, there are plenty of walks for dogs and humans alike. If you’re seriously into your hiking, then the trails right from the cottage’s front door into the peaks of the Brecon Beacons (including Pen Y Fan) won’t disappoint. For the more sedate option, follow the flat canal path into the charming town of Brecon for cafés and shops. On returning, treat yourself to a complimentary massage at The Treatment Studio in the estate. The cottage itself radiates history from its old stone walls and low, timber-beamed ceilings. A little library of books and wood-burner in the living room adds to that away-from-it-all feeling. In the kitchen and living room, the flagstone floor is heated underfoot so there’s no sacrificing comfort for aesthetics here. Upstairs, the master bedroom comes with a glorious sleigh bed to send you off to sleep.
