Wild and wonderful, this honey-coloured homestead on the edge of St Dogmaels is as charming as it looks. Inside, you'll find rustic living spaces that exude warmth – it'll be hard to resist a Netflix movie night curled up in front of the roaring log burner – and we appreciate how interior bi-fold doors give you full control over the size of the living space. Home chefs can let loose in the kitchen, rustling up freshly-baked cakes and mouthwatering Sunday roasts to share around the eight-seater table. Upstairs, a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub before bedtime is just the ticket after a long day.

Speaking of, we can't help but swoon over the verdant, lush landscape that awaits you outside. Listen to the babbling stream as you share a pitcher of Pimm's or gather around the fire pit on hazy summer evenings. It's not just grown-ups who will adore this home. Kids can while away afternoons in the loft playroom, play pretend in the treehouse, follow the fairy trail and bounce on the trampoline. With garden games and rope swings, it's perfect for little ones and the young at heart.

The village is just a short walk away, home to an award-winning farmer's market, historic abbey and the River Teifi. Just across the bridge – about a twenty-minute walk – are pubs, eateries and shops in Cardigan, while Poppit Sands, a picturesque dog-friendly beach, is forty-five minutes on foot, seven by car.

Where Fairies Dance

Nestled among the Herefordshire hills, this handsome house is a rural retreat you’ll really love. There’s elegance at every turn, from the drawing room overlooking the surrounding scenery, to the warm and welcoming kitchen which has space for casual meals. Period charm pairs perfectly with modern comforts, like the media room, and there’s a practical boot room too (handy after a country stroll). It’s the ideal home to host an extended family or group of friends – great for a special occasion, or for a grand getaway to the country.

The Great Retreat

Once the former shooting residence of the Earl of Marlborough, this charming Grade II listed cottage in the heart of Snowdonia carefully stitches together history and contemporary design. Original slate floors and a huge inglenook fireplace contrast against modern additions such as the sleek roll-top bath and luxurious hot tub. The kitchen is the heart of the home, where your clan will spend time eating, drinking and playing card games if it tips it down outside. Light the wood-burning stove to keep the chill at bay or warm up with a brisk walk to the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog – you’ll get there in under an hour if you go at a decent pace. Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

Old Slate

Set within an acre of private woodland, this cottage is a true escape back to nature. As an upside-down home, the first-floor living area is bathed in light and we love how it extends seamlessly out onto the decking. The kitchen is a match for any budding chef, but with traditional Welsh pubs, restaurants, and a cafe mere minutes away on foot, dining out is sure to be on the menu. Keen to explore further afield? Take to the trails of Snowdonia National Park, cross the Menai Bridge for a visit to Anglesey, or hike the North Wales coastal path – there’s something for everyone here. 

Wild Woodland

Through walls of glass, this Criccieth home welcomes the outdoors in. And when you catch a glimpse of the sea views from almost every corner of this home, you’ll know why it caught our eye. Having appeared on a couple of popular TV shows, it’s no surprise that this modern marvel is a perfect place to stay for friends and families alike. Cool and contemporary inside, it’s quite the contrast to the rugged landscape surrounding it. Just take care with the cliff edge – little ones and four-legged friends will need to be supervised. 

Clifftop Dream

On arrival at this beautiful A-frame cottage, you’ll be greeted with stunning views across the Wye Valley and a couple of bottles of local ale from your host’s favourite brewery. A wall of glass opens up the living room to the valley beyond and the morning mist tumbling between forests and fells is quite a sight from this hilltop location. Come nightfall, you’re far from civilisation so the sky speckles with a blanket of stars – spot constellations from the warmth of the wood-fired hot tub outside or walk to Michelin-star restaurant The Whitebrook, fifteen minutes away. Wandering through the wildflower-strewn garden you’ll find a picnic bench and barbecue for hazy summer days outdoors and rambling walks across the countryside start from just outside the door. Back inside, we love the collection of holiday reads, tucked into bookshelves below the raised bed in the studio. Toys in the living room and bunkbeds in the second bedroom let you know this place is family-friendly too. 

Wye Valley View

This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery. 


Sandcastles & Salty Air

This cottage was once the laundry in a manor house built in the fifteenth century and the original castellated archway remains. This is where the large glass doors lead through to the interior, which has been given a contemporary makeover in recent years. Oodles of natural daylight and the bright yellow walls give the space a sunny disposition, while a standalone log-burner will keep you toasty during the colder months. The sleek white kitchen is plenty large enough to make a mess in, while the honey-coloured bathroom looks like it could belong in a spa. Speaking of which, there's a treatment room on the premises where guests can book massages, manicures and pedicures. Beyond the twelve acres of private parkland that surrounds the property, there are plenty of walking routes in the surrounding Brecon Beacons National Park and the quaint town of Brecon is only ten minutes away in the car.

Squeaky Clean

Revel in the relaxing sound of birdsong from the first-floor balcony of this eye-catching countryside lodge situated on the outskirts of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens, wildflower meadows and a tranquil lake, this property offers a fantastic opportunity to get back to nature.

Every aspect of the interior has been carefully considered in order to make the most of the compact space. Your hosts have blended modern comforts with handmade elements and elegant organic shapes to create a getaway that's as pleasing to the eye as it is for the soul. 

On the ground floor, stunning slate floors are pleasing underfoot and extend all the way outside, while gorgeous wooden cabinets in the kitchenette provide sleek storage solutions. Climb the hand-built staircase to the bedroom and you'll be rewarded with breathtaking countryside vistas from the comfort of the king-size bed and the spectacular balcony. There's a comfortable outdoor sofa, plus a table and chairs for sitting back with a glass of something cold as the sun sets below the horizon.

If can tear yourself away, enjoy easy access to the unspoiled beaches of the Pembrokeshire coast. Dale, Marloes and Newgale beaches are all within easy reach by car. If you'd rather actively explore, we highly recommend walking a section of the jaw-dropping Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, or heading into the mysterious Preseli Mountains dotted with prehistoric monuments. Finally, reward yourself with a soak in the full-size hot tub tucked away on the private veranda.

Peregrine Lodge

Escape to the country with family or friends at these two traditional half-timbered homes. Across a main house and a cottage, there's plenty of space for groups to spread out – but we recommend heading straight for the hot tub in the sunken garden. From the alfresco dining table, you can admire quaint country views, and the garden games, including croquet and badminton, are bound to entertain younger guests. The interiors of both homes are in quintessential country style – avid cooks will enjoy using the Aga, and the four-poster bed makes for a memorable sleep. Ideally located near Ludlow and Leominster, there's plenty to see a short drive away – but a local bike ride through the Shropshire hills is equally enjoyable.

Buttercups & Roses

Live like a lord or lady of the manor in this fine Georgian mansion house. Whether you're taking along your friends, family, or colleagues, you'll settle into this luxurious setting in no time at all. Access to the home is via a private lane near Princes Gate, meaning that it's a secluded spot where you can truly relax. Inside, the home is the perfect blend of old and new, where traditional touches meet modern convenience – enjoy underfloor heating and state-of-the-art kitchen appliances alongside gorgeous period details. Outside, you'll find a mixture of formal gardens and private woodland to explore. There are plenty of adventures to be had here, but you simply must explore some of the gorgeous Welsh countryside too. Pembrokeshire National Park is right on your doorstep, where you can hike, cycle, or even pony trek through the stunning landscapes. The pretty market town of Narberth is a five-minute drive away, and Telpyn Beach is just over ten minutes away by car. And, when you return home after a busy day, the outdoor hot tub is waiting for you – it's the ideal way to relax under the stars. 

Pembroke Peace

With the flexibility to sleep up to 24 people, this magical country house is all set up for special events, gatherings of friends and family, activity holidays and more. With views across the Wye Valley, it's set on five acres of pristine land and has nine bedrooms for you to choose between – either in the beautifully restored and extended 17th-Century farmhouse or the stunning new guest annexe. 

Lovers of interior design will have a field day here. It's been impeccably put together by its owner Kari, a professional designer, with nods to traditional country chic, contemporary cool and even Antipodean modern rustic – Kari grew up in Australia. The main house having been extended, the old stable unit was transformed into an architect-designed annexe with a series of split-level suites that wouldn't look out of place in a boutique hotel in Shoreditch.

The huge, 40ft kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need to cook for your group, with an incredible four ovens, five hobs and two dishwashers, or you can take the hard work out of it by hiring a private chef. You'll have four main living spaces with enough room to get together as a large group or enjoy a bit of privacy, and there are all sorts of outdoor seating spots – including a fire pit area, dining terrace and an Aussie-style shack enjoying views across the valley.

Built for entertaining, you'll have a games barn where you can play table tennis, work out on the gym equipment and grab some garden games, as well as a room perfect for group activities. There's even a wood-fired hot tub, a children's natural play area and private fields for you to explore.

Just a few miles from the book town of Hay-on-Wye, it's easy to explore the Welsh border from here, and hiking, cycling and canoeing are all popular local attractions. And if you fancy an action-packed break, your host can put together a unique itinerary for your group. You're bound to make memories that last a lifetime.
