What better base in the ancient-ruin-filled peninsula of the Peloponnese than a neo-classic villa that radiates Grecian charm. This place was originally built in 1893 and is set in over 35,000 square metres of manicured grounds like a lavish country escape fit for nobility. The Mediterranean gardens are filled with blooming flowers, fragrant jasmine and wisteria, and you can help yourself to the vegetables, strawberries, peaches and apricots ripening in the sun. Just a short walk from the pretty village of Keri Lake, famous for its stunning nearby sea caves and the turtles that nest on its beach, this new, stone-built villa is the perfect combination of modern luxury and a green, natural setting. Overlooking the sea and set in beautiful grounds with mature trees, lawns and terraces, it's the ideal space if you're looking to stay in this quiet part of the island.

Inside, it's spacious and cool, with natural tones, tiled floors and vaulted ceilings. Looking out over the Corinthian Gulf, sitting on the balcony at this stylish villa is like having an amphitheatre seat overlooking one of mother nature’s greatest shows. Especially at sunset. And just a sixteen-minute drive from here, natural beauty continues inland.

This villa feels far from the traditional Greek homes of the island. Wooden terraces and awnings jut out from tall windows and a garden patio, with red roof tiles making the whole scene feel somewhere between a Japanese Machiya and an Italian farmhouse. This pretty stone villa overlooks the ocean on the idyllic island of Zakynthos. It’s a leisurely twenty-minute stroll to the beach at Kaminia or an easy four-minute drive. If you fancy a night on the town, Zakynthos Town buzzes to life after sunset and is just a ten-minute drive away.

Back at the villa you’ve got plenty to keep you occupied. Like the glittering swimming pool on the huge terrace looking out over the Aegean. Our favourite spot out here has to be the suspended day bed, swathed with curtains. You’ve also got a covered veranda for alfresco dining and a second terrace upstairs with a chi chi chaise longue if you want to live out your romance novel fantasies.

The interior feels grand yet rustic with exposed stone walls at every turn and an old stone fireplace in the living room. Tufted leather armchairs, mini chandeliers and hand-carved wardrobes add the decadence. The master suite is fairytale-esque with stone archways framing glowing candelabra and satin curtains cascading from the four-poster bed. We love the vintage design touches that complement wooden ceilings throughout – a rotary phone here, a steam-punk sink there. 

Island Romance

Located at the top of a hill, this newly built stone villa is on well-kept grounds where you can spend relaxing moments all to yourself. Take a walk in the scenic olive groves and swim in the infinity pool whilst looking out to a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea and the isle of Marathonisi. Exclusive style and traditional Zakynthian architecture may make it challenging for you to leave your comfortable and idyllic surroundings to discover all the island of Zakynthos has to offer. 

Drive five minutes to Keri Beach, also known as Keri Lake, and rent a pedalo to drift along the blue waters before returning to the coast to rest on the loungers or swim in the turquoise sea. Keri Lighthouse is a bit further away, situated on the edge of a rocky cliff around 300 metres above sea level. The Myzithres, two white towering rocks coming from the sea named after the cheese Myzithra owing to their form resembling this cheese, can be seen here. Finish the evening with a glass of red wine at a neighbouring restaurant viewing the sea at sunset.
