Set on a clifftop in the south-western tip of Santorini, this villa is something special. Views of the sparkling blue Aegean greet you from every angle, and there are four decked terraces to enjoy them from. Start your day with sunrise and an early-morning yoga session in the fresh air, and round things off with alfresco dinner prepared by a private chef.

The villa’s lofty location adds to the tranquillity, but there’s plenty of action when you want it. Pyrgos – Santorini’s best-preserved medieval settlement – is just a short drive away. Time your arrival for noon, when locals tend to meet up outside for meze or ouzo. Mesa Pigada beach is just a five-minute drive from the villa, so sun-worshippers in your group will be satisfied. We spent a thoroughly pleasant afternoon getting lost in the narrow streets of Fira, which, in addition to being utterly beautiful, is great for shopping.

Some guests might not be able to tear themselves away from the villa, and it’s easy to see why. The pool alone is reason enough to stay, whether you’re swimming lengths or reading a book while dipping in a toe or two. 
Make full use of the barbecue by grilling some local halloumi to serve with fruit and honey. When the sun dips low into the sky, pop open the bubbly and slip into the hot tub. It’s a remarkable spot for stargazing.

The Crystal Fountain

Formerly a bakery, this handsome stone building is now home to a villa that provides a slightly offbeat place to stay in Santorini. Inside, there are two separate apartments — one on each storey — that both feel typically Mediterranean in spirit, particularly the white walls, flowing fabrics and wooden furnishings.

While the outdoor space isn't the largest, the host can't be accused of not wringing every last drop of potential from it. There's not just one, but two Jacuzzis out here, as well as no shortage of loungers and seating on which to soak up the sunshine. Throw in the barbecue and an alfresco dining area, and what more could you need?

The surrounding town of Emporio is a charming mix of medieval alleys, whitewashed architecture and historic attractions, like the fifteenth-century Venetian Castle. If you fancy a day at the seaside, however, your nearest beach is just 3km away.

Sweet Treat

Desert Dances

Situated underneath the Venetian-era Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, it's hard to imagine this beautiful setting being the site of a factory, but rather remarkably, this home has an industrial history. In a former life, the building was used solely for the production of wine and tsipouro.

It has since been refurbished to become a set of four self-contained homes that can be booked out all at once. There are still signs of its history, from the cave-like rooms and the massive piece of machinery that sits in the middle of one of the living rooms. 

However, there are plenty of luxurious touches that have since been added, like the swimming pool and Jacuzzi that sit in the middle of the outdoor space, as well as the dreamy rooftop terrace that looks out over the Aegean Sea and neighbouring islands.

The historic village of Pyrgos has medieval streets and alleys to peek around, as well as a handful of restaurants and the aforementioned castle. There's also an abundance of wineries in the local area if you feel inspired by the villa, as well as Kamari Beach, which can easily be reached with a car.

The Grape-Stomper

There's a long list of things we love about this villa in the middle of Santorini, but perhaps the most unique feature is the miniature church on the grounds — St Catherine's — that allows you to get married and host a reception with up to two hundred guests afterwards.

When it comes to settings for a party, there can't be many that are better than this. Starting with the exterior, there's a large freshwater swimming pool surrounded by loungers and covered terraces, which all enjoy a gorgeous view of a Cycladic hillside. Moving around the side of the address, guests also get the run of a massive lawn with children's play equipment on it.

Inside, the home has been appointed in traditional Santorinian style, with cooling white walls, wooden ceiling beams and bare floorboards. Oddly enough, the only rooms that veer away from this script are the bathrooms, which all have been treated to a quirky range of tiling.

Married in the Morning

Tucked away in the traditional village of Pyrgos, this contemporary villa offers the quieter side of Santorini. Sectioned off into a villa, guest house and studio apartment, this home is ideal for larger groups who want the option of privacy. Boasting an array of luxurious amenities from the private infinity pool to the wine cellar, our favourite feature is the spa room which comes complete with a hot tub and fitness equipment. Spectacular views over the Aegean Sea can be enjoyed from the plush sun beds or alfresco dining terrace, and there are some beautiful beaches within an easy distance. 

The Olympian

Aegean White

Set in the picturesque village of Megalochori in Santorini, Alia Mansion is a beautifully restored Santorinian mansion that will transport you to a world of enchantment. This 110 sq.m. haven offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a cozy living room area, and a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances. Immerse yourself in the timeless charm of its comfortable courtyard or soak in the breathtaking view of the island from its traditional terrace. Alia Mansion is only a short distance away from the island's best beaches and the vibrant capital, Fira. Lose yourself in the tranquility and beauty of this majestic hideaway, surrounded by whispering pines and serenity.

Idyllic Villa

Tucked away in southwest Santorini and looking out across a stunning bay, this Cyladiac home is perfect for those seeking a romantic retreat. The terrace is the big draw here – the hot tub, sun loungers, and outdoor seating are all idyllic spots for enjoying a glass of ouzo as you watch the sunset over the water. You've four beaches in a one-mile radius here, so there is plenty of opportunity to go for a dip in the ocean. Although the kitchen here won't be suitable for anything extravagant, there are plenty of local eateries a short stroll away too.

The Butterfly Sky

Located in peaceful Megalorchori on the island of Santorini, this historic villa offers a relaxing retreat from which to explore the beauty of the village and its picturesque surroundings. 

Dating back to the 19th century, this home was once owned by one of the island’s feudal landlords whose wealth stemmed from the export of Vinsanto wine, which is still produced in Santorini to this day. Traces of the home’s past can be seen in its heavy wooden doors, polished wood floors, vaulted ceilings and the original stone arch in the kitchen. Alongside these historic features, you’ll find contemporary furnishings and modern comforts aplenty – we’re particularly enchanted by the main bedroom’s dreamy four-poster bed.

It’s the home’s outsides, however, that really steals the show. Not only is there a terrace off of the kitchen equipped with a long table and chairs for alfresco meals while looking out onto  Megalorchori’s Venetian bell towers, but there’s a beautiful flower-framed courtyard too where you’ll find a dazzling swimming pool. Spend your days catching some rays on the loungers before cooling off in the water and luxuriating long afternoons away in total serenity. 

When you’re ready to venture out for some exploring, make a beeline for the central village square just a short stroll away with its pretty churches and winding cobbled paths. Alternatively, hop in your car to indulge in some sightseeing slightly further afield, with Fira and Oia – as well as some of the best beaches on the island – just a short drive away. 


Floral Feast

From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.
