This Greek villa on the island of Andros is a 150-year-old manor house surrounded by six acres of orchard including citrus trees. We would love to start each morning here with some fresh fruit from the gardens, relaxing outside at the seating area near the restored old well, under the dappled shade of a tree. Then, lounge beside the pool, enjoying the views of the orchard before slipping into the cooling waters of the private swimming pool. 

The area surrounding this home is also is filled with hundred-year-old, tall Cyprus trees, and lemon and orange trees. Plus, there is a stream running just outside the property which flows to the sea at Paraporti beach – making it a very beautiful and peaceful eight-minute walk to reach the sands and oceans. There’s even a taverna by the beach if you get hungry. 

The town of Andros is just a fifteen-minute walk away – or only ten minutes if you choose to take advantage of the free bikes provided at this home. Here, you can explore the town, admire the Tourlitis Lighthouse, visit the museum of contemporary art, and dine in one of the many restaurants and tavernas. Or, return to the villa at dinner time and enjoy local wine and delicious food – using produce and herbs from the garden –cooked on the barbecue, dining alfresco as the sun slowly disappears behind the trees.

The beach calls at this delightfully rustic yet chic villa on the coast of Andros. It’s just a short pad down to the sandy bay where loungers await on soft sand and a cute little taverna serves cold drinks. The main town of Andros (Chora) is just a short, four kilometres drive away too for boutiques and restaurants in picturesque narrow streets.

But spending all your days at this villa isn’t such a bad idea, especially when you’ve got a view like this – over the rugged coastline and the sparkling Aegean Sea. The decor embraces its beachy locale with wicker lampshades hung from white-wood pergolas outside, a smooth stone sofa in the corner and a sprawling day bed perfect for stargazing. It all makes the most of that sea view from the wrap-around terrace.

The boho feel continues inside where worn wood coffee tables and driftwood trinkets sit against pristine white walls. We love the quirky touches like the old spinning wheel and woodworker’s table adorned with object d’art. There’s something medieval about the dining room, but far from a vaulted cellar, it sits in a sun-filled room with big windows looking out to the Aegean. The dine-in kitchen embraces farmhouse charm – we love the stone sink– and there’s plenty of room for the chef of the group to potter around thanks to a wooden kitchen island. Built from traditional stone, this kind of building is called ‘Peristerionas’ by the locals, a Greek word for the doves or pigeons who would have nested in the dovecote-style walls. Andros’ location in the north of the Cyclades islands is perfectly suited for action-packed, island-hopping holidays, as well as beachside bliss. With mountains and valleys, it’s also wonderful for hiking, or can equally offer you a bustling afternoon in its capital – Andros Town.

Set in grounds that were once teeming with agricultural workers, this traditional ‘konaki’ home used to play host to tired farmhands. But that old-time hospitality certainly hasn’t gone away. In fact, it’s simply been brought up to date. For a modern-day version, you've got a secluded courtyard with a swimming pool and hot tub, built from local rock. Roll straight out of bed and onto the terrace for a tasty breakfast and a hot cup of coffee accompanied by unobstructed Aegean Sea views. 

When you’re not watching the world pass by, you’ll be adventuring around the island – explore the Pithara Waterfalls and Foros Cave before nipping into nearby Chora for some tasty Greek fare and a glass of something chilled after checking out the Museum of Contemporary Art and Andros Castle. Return to your abode in the late afternoon to watch the sun set into the indigo water as stars appear above.

There’s a rustic taverna on the beachfront to fuel sandcastle sessions and paddles in the crystal-clear sea. If you fancy a more lively spot for lunch or dinner, the main town of Andros (Chora) is just four kilometres away where neoclassical mansions meet traditional Cycladic architecture in a medley of tiny galleries, boutiques and charming restaurants.

Back at your homestead, the wrap-around stone terrace is the perfect spot for sundowners. On this side of the island, you can watch the sun slip beneath the horizon as the Aegean stretches before you. Choose between the comfy lounge furniture outside or the deckchair dining table shaded by white sails. Stepping into the living room, it’s amazing how vast it is. A double wavy chaise longue is the ideal reading spot at one end of the room and comfy sofas clustered around a round white-stone fireplace are a nod to Cycladic tradition. An archway leads to the neat dining room and the kitchen is more than big enough for the bustle of family mealtimes.

The magnificent mountains and valleys of Andros can only be matched by its striking coastlines. But this building in particular is what locals call a ‘peristeriona’ – or something similar to what we might call a dovecot. While pigeons were once the cosy inhabitants of this gorgeous stone villa, your communal courtyard with a pool and jacuzzi might not have been part of the set-up back in the day.

After a morning dip, head inside through the rich mahogany door, as the charming and original decor beckons you in to explore. Stone flooring, archways, wooden ceilings, and distressed furnishings create a countryside vibe. And with two private terraces for dining alfresco (with sea views, naturally) you’ll be more than happy to nest here for a while.

We love the covered terrace with its generous corner sofa, perfect for dining alfresco with loved ones or simply snuggling down with your summer read and getting lost in a story as the warm Greek air brushes over your skin. Every now and again, when you need some respite from the heat, sink into the private pool and enjoy a gentle swim as the sea sparkles before you, inviting you to visit its sandy shores. Glyfadi beach is a mere 900-metre stroll from your home-away-from-home and well worth a visit, particularly for a spot of snorkelling.

While all three bedrooms offer sea and sunset views, we recommend heading out onto the terrace before nightfall.
