This apartment in the centre of Athens feels like a rare gem. It’s not often we find a one-bedroom apartment, this central, with a big terrace and its own Jacuzzi. The apartment itself is a vibrant medley of modern artworks and slate-grey furnishings. In monochrome style, the kitchen has everything you need for self-catering. It’s the outside space that really takes the biscuit here – the terrace is shaded by the heat by pristine white awnings and there’s plenty of room on the rattan armchairs for drinks outside. Soak in the bubbling Jacuzzi at the end of a day exploring the ancient sites of Athens. 

Speaking of which, the old-world charm of the Plaka neighbourhood is just a fifteen-minute walk away where narrow cobbled alleyways are home to funky bars and rustic restaurants. The Acropolis is a further five minutes away, the crowning glory of Athens’ ancient history.

Sitting just a two-minute walk from Alsos Park, this retro-modern apartment is the ideal base for those looking for a quiet, authentic stay away from the tourist crowds yet still within easy walking distance of Athens’ most historic sights.
 
Inside, an earthy palette brings a cool retro boho vibe to the sunny living area, where contemporary furnishings and decorative pieces like a Persian rug and a wooden rocking chair set a relaxing, welcoming scene. Open up the glass door here to step put onto a private balcony surrounded by leafy potted plants. This is the perfect spot to enjoy your coffee each morning while people-watching from your third-floor vantage point, or to sip an Ouzo in the evening before discovering the many local tavernas. 
 
The bedroom, meanwhile, is dressed in the same earthy tones and has a desk space here should you need to catch up on work, as well as speedy wi-fi. Factor in the sleek en-suite with its rainfall shower and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful stay. 
 
When it comes to exploring nearby, walk ten minutes to visit the Panathenaic Stadium –  home to the first modern Olympic games – or stroll twenty minutes to gaze up at the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Elsewhere, the National Garden is a fifteen-minute walk, the Archaeological Site of the Lyceum of Aristotle is a ten-minute stroll and the Acropolis is twenty minutes away on foot.

And since it’s only a short walk away, prepare to climb the steps and discover the remains of the high city, Parthenon temple and ancient citadel that dates back to the fourth millennium BC.

Technically two separate apartments, this home dominates the entire second and third floors of a historic building in Athens’ Plaka neighbourhood. Guests here can spread out between four suites, two living rooms (each with a double sofa bed) and two full kitchens. The crowning glory of these apartments has to be the private terrace which looks out to the Acropolis, rising above the city in ancient splendour. A hot tub can soak sore feet after a day exploring the myriad restaurants and bars in the narrow old streets of your Plaka neighbourhood.

Sitting in a dimly-lit room featuring a ram skull and whisky collection, you'd be forgiven for mistaking the setting for an old-school bar. A restful bedroom, sleek shower room and high-spec kitchen complete the plush apartment, which maintains the same tasteful interior design throughout.

When you step outside your door, the best of Athens' ancient landmarks are on your doorstep. Start your day at the Agora – just seven minutes away on foot – then wind your way up to the iconic Acropolis. From here, you can take in sweeping views of the sprawling Greek capital in between awe-inspired glances at the Parthenon.

Neon Nest

This sunny duplex apartment is a short walk from the Acropolis – you can even catch a glimpse of it from the fabulous rooftop terrace. Up here, you’ve got views out over the rooftops, best taken in from the warmth of the bubbling hot tub with a glass of something cold. There’s plenty of room for the group to spread out on bean-bag chairs too. 

Inside, a soothing medley of crisp white and slate grey keeps things feeling modern and sunny. We love the tropical feature wall in the living room which adds a pop of colour and vibrance. The compact kitchen with pretty emerald tiles has all the essentials for self-catering and there’s a second outdoor space for dinners on the balcony. That’s if you’re not too busy exploring the meze restaurants of the Plaka, a five-minute walk away. But the real highlight of this apartment is how close it is to the Acropolis, just four minutes on foot to the entrance. 

God of the Sun

With ancient buildings, historic ruins and preserved sculptures at every turn, the Kypseli neighbourhood showcases Modernist influences from the Bauhaus and Art Deco movements following urbanisation in the 1930s. Uniquely situated amongst the green of Pedion Areos, from which you can admire from your balcony, this central home offers both tranquillity of the park and vibrancy of the neighbourhood that surrounds it.
 
Urban minimalism takes centre stage here with clean lines, calm tones and considered soft furnishings, creating a restorative base to return to after a day of exploring the independent boutiques and cafes along the stream-lined Fokionos Negri boulevard. Saturdays are best spent on the avenue, at the Demotiki Agora organic market, where you’ll find artisan bread and regional wines - perfect to stock up on for a local lunch around your mid-century dining table. 
 
Take the bus to Monastiraki square, the bus stop is just across the road, where you can spend the day exploring Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora and soak up the energy of the square. For dinner, consider Hoocut for the iconic pita wrap, Souvlaki - transformed into an elevated pillow bread with moist mutton - by a team of the country’s top talents, all set up against a neoclassical backdrop that also sports a butcher shop, grocery store and bakery. Make sure you save some room for fried, honey-soaked dough balls at Lukumades - our choice is the praline-filled option - where you can grab a dozen and head home to enjoy them on your balcony and watch the historic Greek sunset fade beneath Lycabettus hill. 

Mount Acropolis

Wow, wow, wow was all we could say when we saw the incredible views of the Acropolis from both this home's living space and terrace. They are fantastic any time of day, but we particularly love the vistas at sunset and then as dark approaches when Greece's most famous monument is all lit up. It’s a divine spot for a glass of wine.

If the weather turns chilly, head inside and gather around the fire or whip up a Greek meze in the modern kitchen. We could tell when we visited that this home has undergone a thoughtful renovation by your hosts.

Located in Plaka, there are plenty of tavernas, bars and shops nearby to enjoy. Or visit the Acropolis Museum, around a fifteen-minute walk away.
