The view from this home in an elevated position just north of Skala is to die for. The glittering sea extends right across your field of vision from the enormous terrace, with a glass safety barrier so absolutely nothing interferes with your view. Out here, which is where we think you'll spend most of your time, you'll be able to relax on the sun loungers, sip drinks on the sofas and eat at the table under the stars. And just when you think this outside space couldn't get any better, there's a beautiful private pool too, with hydrotherapy and swim-against-the-stream settings.

Inside, it's a fully modernised villa that has maintained some of its character features – so expect a glossy new kitchen and fabulous new bathrooms, along with a pretty fireplace in the open-plan living space and vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms. There's a stunning private balcony off one of the bedrooms, perfect for getting some sea air first thing in the morning, and we just love the bunk beds in the third bedroom – perfect for kids. 

Just a five-minute drive from the nearby village – where you'll find traditional tavernas, shops and everything you could need – and a five-minute drive from the nearest beach, it's in a handy location too.

This lovely apartment has home-away-from-home charm in spades. If you’re planning a romantic visit to Kefalonia and want somewhere cosy and attractive to return to each day, you can’t do better than this apartment. 

The apartment is mere metres from the sea, so the balcony offers lovely views. Watch boats bobbing in the water while you eat your breakfast al fresco – the distant mountains make a beautiful backdrop. This is such a pretty part of Greece – we’d definitely be heading out on day trips to make the most of the location. 

Myrtos Beach, which featured in the film version of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, is twenty-five minutes away by car, with its dramatic stretch of white pebbles and beautifully blue water. Of course, there’s a beach just two minutes away from the apartment so you can paddle any time. 

The magical Melissani Cave is just five minutes away on foot, in Karavomylos. After taking a boat trip through the cave to discover the lake and forest within, meander through the village. Pop into a taverna for some meze and a cocktail or two – sit outside so you can watch the sunset over the sea. This place is perfect for romance.

You'll need to pinch yourself when waking up in this Grecian paradise. Nestled among the hills and olive groves of Kefalonia, this characterful home offers privacy and seclusion. Gazing out from your private terrace, the glistening expanse of the Ionian sea beckons. Arrive at the nearest beach after a scenic fifteen-minute drive – if you can resist stopping at the inviting tavernas you'll pass on the way.

This leads to a mezzanine desk area, ideal for those who can't quite switch off as you'll at least be able to separate work from play. By choosing this abode, you're perfectly placed to explore the best of the island. Assos, a picturesque paintbox village, is within easy reach. And somewhere in between the two, Melissani Cave offers a tranquil lake inside a rocky cavern which you simply cannot miss – which shouldn’t be too difficult, at just an eight-minute stroll from this apartment.

In the village of Karavomylos, this charming home also offers views of the Ionian Sea, ten metres from the water’s edge. If you can drag yourself away from these vistas by the glass sliding doors in the lounge, it’s worth taking a look at the elegant decor. Blushing tones of orange and muted reds create a welcoming and warm vibe, inviting you to sink into the plump sofa with a glass of fresh fruit juice in the morning. With wooden and woven elements peppered throughout, the home stays true to the natural splendour of the island.

As you step out to your leafy, private terrace for a bowl of olives before dinner, you can also look out to the residents’ pool below. Or an alternative would be to head to our favourite spot – the secluded, peach-coloured courtyard. Sip cocktails on the armchairs beneath the lush, green foliage surrounding this cute terrace.

Perched on the breathtaking South East coast of Kefalonia, with views of Zakynthos in the distance, lies an outstanding villa with a stunning guest house attached.

Soak up peaceful serenity on a sunbed by the glittering pool or take the kids snorkelling via access to the sea at the foot of the garden.
We particularly loved the secret wooden staircase granting us private access to the bay.

The villa also boasts a selection of entertainment tech including a home cinema, MP3 player, and a High-Fidelity music system.

Nearby attractions include the simply stunning Skala Beach just 1.5km away and the vibrant Skala Resort is just 3km away.

Greek Goddess

If visiting an ancient village and boating across a crystal-clear lake sounds like your sort of afternoon, this coastal landscape of Kefalonia might fit the bill. Just a four-minute drive from the town of Sami, and an eight-minute walk from the sapphire waters of Melissani Cave, this luxe apartment offers a base where you can brush the sand off your feet and let your swimwear dry for the day ahead.

Merging into the organic scenery of this island, the home offers a calming decor of sandy tones, reminiscent of nearby beaches. Wicker and wood furniture add to this natural vibe, which continues from the dining space into the bedrooms. Rope-framed mirrors and solid log stools put even more emphasis on this rustic, beachside theme – as does the fabulous view from the terrace.

The fuss-free interiors provide everything needed for a comfortable stay, while outdoors, you’re invited to make the most of the Mediterranean climate. If you’re travelling with little ones, just be aware there are multiple open-sided steps in the outdoor space, so they’ll need to be supervised at all times. That aside, hours of fun are to be had in the private pool or simply soaking up the sun on the terrace.

This delightful apartment can be found just ten metres from the sea in the pretty village of Karavomylos. It’s one of a series of quiet, peaceful apartments, perfect for those longing for a restful visit to Greece – this isn’t party central.

You’ll likely spend your days at the beach, swimming in the clear water and soaking up the sunshine. It’s a two-minute walk from the apartment so you can sleep in and still nab a sun lounger at the shore. Stroll along the seafront and choose a taverna to pop into for lunch – as you’re on an island you really ought to sample some of the fresh seafood. 

The crown jewel of this village is Melissani Cave, a natural wonder just five minutes from the apartment. Boats take you into the cave, which has a hidden lake and forest inside – it makes for a romantic outing. 

The town of Assos is thirty-two minutes away, and it’s well worth the car journey. Wandering around the cobbled streets and admiring the colourful houses is a delightful way to spend a day, especially with an ice cream in hand.

It's not hard to see how the Greek myths of sea gods and Mount Olympus came into being at this beautiful spot on the Liakas Peninsular. The bright green lawns stop directly at the sea, with a kidney-shaped pool for cooling off on hot days and a table-tennis table for afternoon exertion. A white outhouse hides a large built-in barbecue, which must boast some of the best cooking views on the island. Inside, the home is characterised by muted tones and paved floors. A large, open-plan living space is flooded with light from the sliding doors, with an L-shaped sofa for movie nights. Bedrooms bounce from orange and fuchsia to pastel blue, and each has their own en suite for a sense of privacy. Wake up early and head out to the top balcony or the wicker patio furniture to begin your day with the most incredible golden sunrise.

At the tip of the Liakas Peninsula overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this breezy villa is the ultimate getaway. Smart, modern and utterly peaceful, the whole house revolves around the incredible views, from the patio doors to the dazzling infinity pool that feels like it flows straight into the sea. Inside, the vibe is contemporary cool – think soothing colour schemes, shiny surfaces and all the mod-cons you need to feel right at home. You can easily spend your whole trip lounging by the pool or relaxing under the shady pergola. Follow the footpath down to the rocky sea or drive ten-minutes to Klimatsias Beach for sandy shores perfect for sunbathing. There are taverns and restaurants in Spartia – only a short drive – but for more choice, we recommend strolling along the promenade in Argostoli, only fifteen-minutes away. Finish the evening back at home, sipping wine on the terrace as the stars pop out over the ocean. Trust us – you won't find a better spot to unwind.

And while the inside of the home is beautiful, it's the outside that takes it to the next level. Spend your days lounging by the colbalt blue pool, looking over the sprawling gardens. When you need some time in the shade, head up to the terrace, playing cards around the table and wondering if it's time for a nice cold drink. Alfresco lunches are lovely around the table, with the sea in sight. Or, make the ten minute walk to Mounda Beach for something to eat and an afternoon swim in the sea. There are a few snack bars and tavernas to keep you going. If you keep an eye out, you might spot an endangered loggerhead turtle that call this beach home.

After an afternoon spent on the sand and splashing in the sea, take the leisurely walk back through the trees before returning home tanned and freckly. When it comes to dinnertime, you're less than a ten minute drive to the traditional town of Skala. Walk the cobbled streets, popping into souvenir shops along the way, before settling in to a taverna for the night. Or, let the barbecue at home take care of dinner as you watch the breathtaking sunset from the comfort of your own terrace.

With a sweeping panorama taking in Agia Kyriaki and Myrtos bays, this villa up in the hills of Agkonas is the perfect island retreat. Days can be spent by the swimming pool, lying on the flat loungers and taking in the views of mountains and sea. On the first floor, a bamboo pergola shades the outdoor dining area and a hanging chair looks out over the sprawling vista. 

Inside, it’s an industrial-style space of poured concrete and iron railings with a couple of vintage pieces keeping things characterful. There’s plenty of prep space on the concrete worktops in the kitchen and washed wood cabinets feel bespoke. In the master bedroom, the honey-hued stone wall on display sings of old Kefalonia, and the second bedroom has a distinctly Moroccan vibe.

When it comes to exploring the area, you’ll find a mini market within walking distance, and there’s a beautiful, unspoilt local beach a ten-minute drive away with a handful of cafés to choose from. 

Ionian Embrace

Holiday mode will be well and truly switched on when you roll up to this Grecian home. Kefalonia is an island of magnificent beauty, and this villa's views tick all the boxes, taking in bays, rugged mountains, and the sparkling sea. 

Inside the décor is fresh and functional, providing everything you need for day-to-day life, but we’re not sure you’ll be spending a lot of time in there when the outdoor space is so good. Head outside and make a splash in the dolphin-shaped swimming pool, then dry off on a sun lounger as you sip a cool drink. When you get hungry, fire up the barbeque for a freshly-grilled feast, and serve up your culinary creations at the alfresco dining table – delicious. 

Rocky Amandakis Beach is just a twelve-minute walk away, where you can soak up the sun and swim in the crystal clear water. If you'd prefer to stretch out on the sand, then jump in the car and drive over to Pessada Beach, fifteen minutes away. And, if you head inland, you can visit the ruined Castle of Agios Georgios for some spectacular views across the whole island.
