And somewhere in between the two, Melissani Cave offers a tranquil lake inside a rocky cavern which you simply cannot miss – which shouldn’t be too difficult, at just an eight-minute stroll from this apartment.

In the village of Karavomylos, this charming home also offers views of the Ionian Sea, ten metres from the water’s edge. If you can drag yourself away from these vistas by the glass sliding doors in the lounge, it’s worth taking a look at the elegant decor. Blushing tones of orange and muted reds create a welcoming and warm vibe, inviting you to sink into the plump sofa with a glass of fresh fruit juice in the morning. With wooden and woven elements peppered throughout, the home stays true to the natural splendour of the island.

As you step out to your leafy, private terrace for a bowl of olives before dinner, you can also look out to the residents’ pool below. The apartment is perfect for a family, or perhaps two couples looking to enjoy a relaxing stay at the beach. It’s light, bright, and comfortable, with a view of the garden. The balcony is the perfect place for pre-dinner cocktails, especially when the sun starts to set. 

A two-minute stroll will take you to a lovely pebble beach, where the water is calm. You might like to give snorkelling a go, or perhaps you’d prefer to lie back and soak up every second of sunshine? Along from the beach, there are a few tavernas and restaurants to choose from, so you’re sure to find somewhere to sample moussaka. There are plenty of beaches in the area to explore, so we recommend heading out in the car to see which secluded coves you can find.

The town of Assos is thirty-two minutes away, and it’s well worth the car journey. Wandering around the cobbled streets and admiring the colourful houses is a delightful way to spend a day, especially with an ice cream in hand.

Inside, it’s an industrial-style space of poured concrete and iron railings with a couple of vintage pieces keeping things characterful. There’s plenty of prep space on the concrete worktops in the kitchen and washed wood cabinets feel bespoke. In the master bedroom, the honey-hued stone wall on display sings of old Kefalonia, and the second bedroom has a distinctly Moroccan vibe.

When it comes to exploring the area, you’ll find a mini market within walking distance, and there’s a beautiful, unspoilt local beach a ten-minute drive away with a handful of cafés to choose from.
