Although it's easy to embrace alfresco living here, the villa's interior is noteworthy too for its contemporary decor, all soothing neutral tones, chic furnishings and eye-catching light fixtures. In the wider resort, there are even communal gym and yoga facilities that guests are welcome to use.

It's not hard to see how the Greek myths of sea gods and Mount Olympus came into being at this beautiful spot on the Liakas Peninsular. Bordered by the slopes of Mount Ainos and with uninterrupted views out over the ocean towards Zakynthos, this home's gardens are the stuff of legends. Hit reset at this rural villa fringing the historic village of Svoronata and within walking distance of the golden sands of Ammes Beach. While the contemporary interiors may feel a little stark for some, there's no denying this family-friendly, single-storey home doesn't deliver on space and practicality. There are two indoor dining spots and lounges to spill out into, and outside, vast lawns surrounding the private pool and a playground and trampoline for little ones. Blissfully secluded, Svoronata's handful of tavernas and mini-markets are within walking distance. Or hop in the car to Argostoli (a fifteen-minute drive), with its pockets of beaches, for a little more bustle.

The patio with its shaded alfresco dining set is the perfect spot for this. Better yet, soak up some rays from the private pool. The vistas are just as beautiful from inside the home, the minimalist decor providing a fuss-free canvas for taking in your surroundings. And when you’re ready to venture out further afield, you’ll find Spartia Beach easily reachable by car.

The outside space is certainly the star – how could it not be, with the Ionian practically at your fingertips? – but the minimalist interiors aren't too shabby, either. Families will appreciate the ground-floor layout and having en-suite bathrooms in each room. What's more, this is a prime locale for exploring – Paliolinos Beach is about 800 metres away, while Argostoli is a 10-kilometre drive. Factor in add-on services like wine delivery and private chefs, and it's no wonder it stole our hearts.

Surrounded by Magnolias and Mediterranean views, this Kefalonian villa is something to remember. From here, you’re just a short drive from the picture-perfect cove of St.Thomas Bay where you’ll find golden sands and shallow waters – perfect if you’re visiting with little ones. Speaking of, back at the villa there’s a children’s play area and pool for family days alfresco, as well as a built-in barbecue to cook up grilled feasts. Though the bathrooms are on the minimal side, the rest of the house feels modern and inviting – meals are made effortless thanks to the kitchen’s handy appliances, while sleeps are blissful thanks to the coastal breeze through the balcony doors.

Its remote location is beautiful and serene but does mean you’ll need a car to comfortably get around. Despite it being so remote, the nearest beach is less than a ten-minute drive away. The traditional village of Troianata is close by, too. But with a stunning infinity pool, an outdoor cinema, a children’s play area, and an outdoor workout area, you might not want to leave. 

The Queen of Peace

This pocket-sized villa is perfect for couples or small families looking for a scenic Kefalonian break. Overlooking Trapezaki Beach and the deep blue of the Ionian sea, the views are best enjoyed from the balcony or the terrace where a private pool and an alfresco dining area await. While the outdoors provides more wow factor than the inside, the home offers practical decor in its open-plan living area with a sofa bed for more flexible sleeping options. And though a car will certainly come in handy for trips to the beach and visits to Lourdas (3 kilometres away), you’ll find a mini-market and a restaurant close by.

Since Trapezaki is in a quiet area, you'll benefit from its tranquillity while being a short drive from Argostoli and the resort towns of Skala and Lourdas – featuring an array of shops, bars and restaurants along a sandy beach.

This is the Greece from the movies. The ones where heroes swim in azure seas, eat fresh seafood in local tavernas, and fall in love underneath star-strewn skies. While we can't promise the latter, this home's incredible location is sure to blow you away. Blending into cerulean skies and aquamarine waters, the infinity pool is where most of your days will be spent. For a change of scenery, follow the stone path down to the rocky outcrop to dive into the ocean. Your most stressful decision will inevitably be relaxing under the pergola, soaking in the views of Zante, or on the plot's patio, curled up with a good book in the swinging egg chair. Interiors are homely and simple, with muted pastel colours and floral prints. Several of the bedrooms have their own balconies, meaning that you can start each morning admiring mother nature's work. Come dinnertime, the modern kitchen has everything needed for family meals, but we have a sneaking suspicion that most things will be done outside, on the large built-in barbecue.
