From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.

Inside, you can still enjoy the fantastic views from the living space with its seascape tones of grey and pale blues. The beach theme continues with the stylish bathroom and its pebble clad walls. The views over the caldera from this cave home’s terrace in Oia are stunning. There are not one, but two Jacuzzis to relax in, one indoors and one outdoors with incredible vistas, while inside, the décor is classic and charming. A few things to note, we’d say –  the wifi can be a bit patchy, especially towards the back of the house. Also, you don’t get a sunset or sunrise view, but the vistas are fabulous even without them and it’s just a few minutes’ stroll to a sunset vantage point in the town. In fact, the location is ideal as you can walk to boutiques, restaurants and bars.

Just outside Oia and set to a backdrop of the sparkling Aegean Sea, this converted canava is a true Grecian retreat. Here, smooth lines, white-washed walls and characterful curves dominate the design – we think it's bright, elegant and utterly relaxing. Although it's on the smaller side, everything you'll need is accounted for, from a rainfall shower in the en-suite bath to a compact yet fully-equipped kitchen. 

But it's the dazzling terrace that makes this home extra special. Underneath the arch, you'll find a refreshing plunge pool with whirlpool jets, perfect for late-night dips. On the veranda, you can drink in the unforgettable Santorini sunset (a bottle of wine, optional) and watch as the stars slowly come out overhead. The postcard-worthy views are downright magical – think caldera cliffs, glistening ocean and the famous castle all yours to behold – and the town is only a short walk away when you fancy restaurants, bars or a day of sightseeing.

Just a sixteen-minute drive from the white walls and pale blue rooftops of Pyrgos, the northeastern coast of Santorini offers more serenity off the tourist track. We love the stone exterior and the country-style wooden door where you can enter your private patio. A parasol and slatted shelter create much-needed shade from the Cycladic sun, but your host can also help out. They’ll provide a refreshing basket of fresh fruit and local wine upon arrival, which you can nibble and sip peacefully in your serene, white, studio.

Sleep soundly in the bedroom through the archway, looking forward to waking up to homemade breakfast every morning in the restaurant. Your suite sits just below its terrace – how convenient. And if you ever feel ready to leave this nest and explore the island, just ask your host to borrow the car while they take care of housekeeping and fresh linens. Hospitality at its finest.

Alternatively, pack your seaside essentials and walk 450m down to the nearest sandy beach at Vourvoulos for relaxing days along the coast.
