If you were looking for perfect locations in which to build a home, this spot on the southeastern Peneloponese coastline would be a strong contender. Surrounded by lush vegetation — including trees growing olives, almonds, pears and lemons — it also has the added perk of having direct access to a secluded beach.

Part of a collection of five villas, this home makes the most of its beautiful position with a long terrace area containing an alfresco dining table, a couple of loungers and even a giant chess set. The interior has plenty of glass doors and large windows so you can still marvel at the scenery from inside, too. We're big fans of the decor, which is contemporary in style but subtle and unshowy about it.

As well as Kissakas beach almost quite literally on your doorstep, there are further seaside options a short drive away — like Tserfos just over a quarter of an hour's drive — as well as plenty of hiking routes and the town of Leonidio about fifteen minutes away in the car.

If you’re on the lookout for a super-house for multiple families, in a spectacular island setting, this is it. Standing high on a hill on stunning Aegina Island, the home is perfectly placed. The 180-degree ocean views are epic from here. But the buzzy city centre is pleasingly close enough just 4km away. 

The villa is set over four levels, with plenty of space for a gang of eighteen. The vibe is relaxed, with lots of colour and homely touches. Families will especially love it here. Table tennis, giant chess, a playground and basketball facilities mean the kids are well catered for. Meanwhile, the grown-ups can recline with a book by the oh-so-chic infinity pool. Heaven. 

If you can drag yourself away, it’s worth exploring this beautiful island. Your nearest beach is Marathonas – its shallow water makes it a great spot for little ones to swim. Or don your best hiking shoes and explore the nature-rich mountains where there are ancient chapels to discover.

Set on the entirety of the top floor, not only does it have a jacuzzi tub in the en-suite bathroom, but a private balcony, where you can savour your morning coffee and admire the ebb and flow of the ocean. In the afternoons, sip wine in the sunshine and cool off with a dip in the pool. When you're feeling peckish, rustle up something delicious in the high-spec kitchen and dig in on the grassy courtyard, then make your way out to the many balconies and watch as the sun dips below the horizon.

When you fancy venturing out, it's just a five-minute drive to Althea Beach and thirty minutes to Athens, so you'll have a choice between sand and surf or city sightseeing – we think that's the best of both worlds.

Spend just a few moments relaxing on the balcony, drinking in the pretty-as-a-postcard views of Avlemonas Bay and you'll see why we love this apartment. The quiet character matches the idyllic setting – think soft blush-coloured walls, wooden ceilings adorned with beams and a mix of classic and contemporary furniture. Whether you're digging into breakfast of yoghurt and greek honey around the dining table, watching the boats go by with a glass of wine in the afternoons or dozing off in the comfortable bedrooms after a long day, it's hard not to feel right at home. 

One of the most picturesque villages on Kithira, Avlemonas is on the eastern part of the island yet still within driving distance to all the beaches and landmarks on both coasts. Even better is that tavernas, coffee shops and beaches are within walking distance – our favourite spot for a swim is the Baths of Venus, only a two-minute walk away. There's no beach, but the rocks are an excellent place to lay in the sun and cool off in the clear blue waters of the Myrtoan Sea.

It's fair to say that each of the Greek islands has a distinct identity and Spetses appeals to those fond of the finer things in life, with plenty of high-end restaurants and boutiques dotted across the map. You'll also find some rather impressive villas, such as this majestic home.

Spread across three floors, the star of the show has to be the swimming pool surrounded by a terrace with loungers on which to dry off after a dip. Up on the top floor, you'll find another terrace with pleasingly green views, but if you need a break from the sun, there's a verandah with a dining table and a hammock practically begging for a post-lunch snooze.

The interior feels typically Greek with whitewashed walls, shuttered windows and a few boho touches in the furnishings and decorations. The glass doors on the ground floor bring in plenty of natural light, as well as a burst of fresh air when swung open. We've also got kind words for the contemporarily styled kitchen in a dashing shade of grey, too.

When it comes to seeing a little more is the island, there are small beaches within three hundred metres of the home, while the larger Kaiki beach takes about ten minutes to reach on foot. The port town of Spetses is a similar amount of time in the opposite direction and offers a great choice of restaurants and a pair of museums to explore.

Paleopoli is considered one of the quietest sea villages on the island – yet you'll be just 20 kilometres away from the capital of Kythera, Chora, with a wealth of shops, bars and restaurants to discover when you're ready to leave the peace and quiet.

Art Deco aficionados will adore this home on the Athenian riviera. Designed by a French architect in the 1930s, the special house has been modernised over the years but is still rich in original features. From the grand oak staircase to the terrazzo tiles in the hallway, it's a visual feast for nostalgic travellers.

And there's more to see in the gardens – that's right, there are two gardens. On the east side, you'll find a sun lounger-fringed swimming pool as well as a peaceful veranda. The west garden is home to a flourishing orange tree, which provides shade for the six-person dining table. Grill up a storm on the barbecue and spend all evening outdoors.

History buffs can't leave this area without visiting the Temple of Apollo at Corinth, fifteen minutes away by car. The limestone structure is perched on a rocky hill with views over the ancient city. But even closer to home, there are plenty of beaches, shops and tavernas to meet all of your holiday needs – you'll likely hear the Loutraki Waterfalls whispering as you stroll around the village.

Surrounded by mountains with Hydra’s picturesque port just a short walk away, you’ll find yourself serenaded by the magic of island living. With its origins dating back to the 1800s, the owners have retained the traditional features whilst adding a range of contemporary comforts. From the artwork and natural tones to the personal touches, every detail inspires a wonderful sense of warmth and ease. 

Enjoy quiet mornings with a coffee on the terrace, take a refreshing walk down to the waterfront, soak up the atmosphere from a nearby taverna and admire the scenery from the beach – it's just a fifteen-minute walk away. And for those in search of an adventure, take a boat trip around the island or set off on a hike through the countryside with donkeys as your companions. If you follow the steps at the bottom of the garden, you will arrive at your very own little pebble beach and take a refreshing dip in the sea on hot days. And, there's also an alfresco Jacuzzi, which is ideal for long, luxurious soaks under the stars each evening.

It would be easy to never leave this little slice of paradise – especially since your host can organise luxurious extras like butler service and private yoga sessions. However, Astir Beach, with its crystal clear waters, is just a four-minute walk away, as is Vouliagmeni Beach, complete with volleyball courts and a childrens' play area. And, if you fancy heading into Athens to see the sights, then you can drive to the historic city in just half an hour.

Perched on the edge of the Peloponesse peninsula, this villa cannot be accused of not making the most of its glorious position. 

In the outside space, the view of the Aegean Sea can be admired from the alfresco dining table on the terrace or from the cool waters of the swimming pool. There are further shady spots to be discovered in the garden filled with Mediterranean vegetation.

The villa's interior feels bright and breezy thanks to the large glass windows, high vaulted ceilings and the whitewashed walls, while the furnishings are generally contemporary in style, particularly the transparent dining room chairs and the super-sleek bathrooms.

As you can probably guess from the panorama, it doesn't take too long to reach the sea here — in fact, the closest beach takes three minutes to reach on foot. The port town of Porto Cheli is a ten-minute drive away and you can also catch a ferry to the island of Spetses from Kosta, just five minutes away in the car.

Step inside, and you'll find a gorgeous living area filled with natural light and comfortable furnishings – it's the ideal spot to flop down and hide from the heat. However, we think you'll want to spend most of your time admiring the sea views from the fabulous outdoor space. Stroll through the gardens, stretch out on a lounger or make a splash in the swimming pool. And, when evening rolls around, you can fire up the barbecue and serve up a freshly grilled feast on the patio as the sun goes down. 

The surrounding area is quiet and tranquil, with direct access down to the water's edge. If you want to visit a beach with more facilities, then Petrothalassa Beach is just three kilometres away – it's great for snorkelling and you can even rent a boat. The resort town of Porto Cheli is also three kilometres away, where you'll find restaurants serving local seafood, chic bars and a gorgeous marina.

With the glistening waters of the Argolic Gulf and the looming landmass of Argolis on the horizon, plus olive groves and evergreen forest to either side, you couldn't ask for a better view than the one this villa enjoys.

As you would hope, there are plenty of ways to admire this panorama, whether it's while paddling in the swimming pool, dining on the terrace or catching some rays on one of the loungers.

Inside, there's a rustic feel to the design thanks to the stone walls and floor, as well as the terracotta tiling. When the sun goes down, what better way to end the day than lighting up one of the fireplaces and curling up on a leather sofa?

Beautifully situated at the mouth of the area's cove, with Pagagitsa beach's crystal clear waters only metres from your front door. The outside space and activities provided at this residence are the show stoppers. On a day packed with excitement, would you be playing beach volleyball or hitting the ball in a game of tennis? Perhaps you'd like to spend a leisurely day by the pool, gazing out over the Aegean Sea and seeing the sun glint off the water's surface. Not to mention, don't forget a game of table tennis.
