Out on the patio, there's a sparkling pool for afternoon dips, plenty of lounge chairs for lazing in the sun and an outdoor table underneath the pergola for alfresco dining. Whether you're splashing in the water or napping in the egg chair, fun in the sun comes easily here. Even better is the roof terrace, where you can soak up the ocean views with a glass of wine in the hot tub. Inside, there's no denying that this is a Grecian home. Blue and white dominate the colour scheme (although funky lights in the bedroom add a pop of green and orange), while gorgeous tiles in the kitchen are a nod to classic Greek design.

But the best part of all is the location. This villa is just steps from the seaside and only a few minutes' walk from the laid-back tavernas, beachfront bars and local restaurants in Mastichari. Take it slow and sprawl out on the sand or kick it up a notch with kitesurfing and kayaking. Ferries run daily to neighbouring Kalymnos if you fancy a bit of island hopping, but if you ask us, we'd be content to stay put, basking in the salty air. Set on the outskirts of Salakos village, in the lush foothills of Mount Prophitis Ilias, it's a high-end villa surrounded by rich agricultural land. Olive groves, walnut trees and nearby glasshouses producing fruit and vegetables make this a slice of rural heaven, and every morning you'll be brought fresh produce, olive oil, eggs and bread from the farm.

Away from it all but just a fifty-minute drive from Rhodes Town, here you'll be able to experience a slower pace of life. Bask on your enormous deck, find a shady spot beneath the palms in your private garden or swim and play all day in your pool. An elegant and charming home, it's been built in the traditional style with plenty of character – think vaulted ceilings, bare stone walls and plenty of natural wood. It sits perfectly in its serene surroundings. 

Our pick of the rooms has to be the main living room here. With its open layout and fabulous high ceilings, there's something quite Hollywood about it. We love the leather sofas, the sleek, black kitchen and the green-framed window walls. But there's much more to explore, with a second living space and three beautiful bedrooms. There's even a home gym if you're feeling like some exercise.

In the evenings, light the barbecue and eat outside under the stars, or head into the village (where you'll find a couple of small eateries) or to the coast at Kamiros Beach for dinner in a seaside taverna. And there's plenty to explore locally too – don't miss a visit to the butterfly valley, the seven springs and a chance to go wine tasting.

Found in Astypalaia, where history and heritage collide, this home pays homage to both. Minimalist with a whitewashed Cycladic exterior, the interior is matched to create a coastal atmosphere whilst holding to tradition. Though it's small and everyone might not feel comfortable on the spiral staircase, you can catch a glimpse of the Venetian Castle of Astypalaea from the balcony. Beach lovers can drop their bags and find themselves on the shores of Livadi in a matter of minutes. The kitchen is okay for light bites, but with several restaurants around, you wouldn't need to bother if you don't want to.

Set in Kalithies, history lovers will have their pick of sites to explore and local cafes and bakeries to chill at. And of course, when you're done with all that's near you, drive over to Rhodes, a medieval city that's a treasure trove in itself.

The little island of Astypalea is something of an undiscovered gem in the Aegean Sea. This villa is just outside Astypalea Town (or Chora) with a beautiful view of the white houses layered up the hillside and crowned with an ancient castle (200 metres away). The sea is a short walk, with the island’s most famous beach, Livadi, 500 metres away. 

It may be a self-catered villa, but there are plenty of luxury touches that make a stay here as easy as a hotel. The welcome hamper and fresh fruit on arrival, daily housekeeping and breakfast served every morning, for example. There’s room to sit out on the private terrace and take in the view of ancient Astypalea Town rising before you, and a Jacuzzi provides the perfect end to a day of sightseeing. 

Inside, it feels like old-world Greece with candle-lit alcoves in the sleek stone walls and a cast-iron fireplace on display in the living area. We love the faded mosaic motif paired with a vintage-style oven in the kitchen. A ten-minute drive from Rhodes Town, this beautiful villa is an architectural marvel. It’s apparent in the lounge, where a golden circle in the ceiling marks the outline of a blue dome outside. A lipstick-red chaise longue twists into a scroll, reminiscent of ancient Greece, and gallery-white walls are adorned with original modern artworks. Hallways are lined with clay vases that look like they’re on loan from the Acropolis museum and mosaic floors are cooling underfoot.

It’s the outdoor spaces that really take the biscuit here though. The huge terrace is shaded in places for dining, lounging and taking in that sea view. A built-in stone barbecue provides alfresco feasts at the quartz-topped dining table and there’s a ping pong table for a fun moment before dinner. If you’re not whiling away the days poolside, it’s a ten-minute drive into Rhodes Town, where the shambling medieval streets of the UNESCO old town are home to pretty courtyard restaurants, old castle walls and independent boutiques. For a day at the beach, the soft sand of Paralia Kallitheas is a five-minute drive (or leisurely half-hour stroll) away.
