Set on the outskirts of Salakos village, in the lush foothills of Mount Prophitis Ilias, it's a high-end villa surrounded by rich agricultural land. Olive groves, walnut trees and nearby glasshouses producing fruit and vegetables make this a slice of rural heaven, and every morning you'll be brought fresh produce, olive oil, eggs and bread from the farm.

Away from it all but just a fifty-minute drive from Rhodes Town, here you'll be able to experience a slower pace of life. Bask on your enormous deck, find a shady spot beneath the palms in your private garden or swim and play all day in your pool. An elegant and charming home, it's been built in the traditional style with plenty of character – think vaulted ceilings, bare stone walls and plenty of natural wood. It sits perfectly in its serene surroundings. 

Our pick of the rooms has to be the main living room here. With its open layout and fabulous high ceilings, there's something quite Hollywood about it. We love the leather sofas, the sleek, black kitchen and the green-framed window walls. But there's much more to explore, with a second living space and three beautiful bedrooms. There's even a home gym if you're feeling like some exercise.

In the evenings, light the barbecue and eat outside under the stars, or head into the village (where you'll find a couple of small eateries) or to the coast at Kamiros Beach for dinner in a seaside taverna. And there's plenty to explore locally too – don't miss a visit to the butterfly valley, the seven springs and a chance to go wine tasting.

Take it slow and sprawl out on the sand or kick it up a notch with kitesurfing and kayaking. Ferries run daily to neighbouring Kalymnos if you fancy a bit of island hopping, but if you ask us, we'd be content to stay put, basking in the salty air. Between the seafront location, coastal scenery and the sunny terrace back at home, you can't go wrong.

A ten-minute drive from Rhodes Town, this beautiful villa is an architectural marvel. It’s apparent in the lounge, where a golden circle in the ceiling marks the outline of a blue dome outside. A lipstick-red chaise longue twists into a scroll, reminiscent of ancient Greece, and gallery-white walls are adorned with original modern artworks. The interior is bright and cool, with beamed ceilings and huge windows that make it a real island retreat. Wake up in the morning to the sun streaming onto your pillow, and make your way straight out onto the terrace to stretch and breathe in the warm, sweet-scented air. 

The pool overlooks the sea, with mountain views and neighbouring islands dotted around on the horizon. There’s a sense of real tranquillity here, but you’re not far from the action. It’s just a nine-minute walk into the centre of Kampos, where you’ll find a tavern, bar and a playground. Skala, the main town, is a ten-minute drive away, so you can easily stock up on food. Kampos Beach is the most popular sandy stretch on the island, and it’s just five minutes by car from the villa.

We're big fans of both bedrooms having en-suite (albeit somewhat dated) bathrooms, although our eyes are on the main with its open-air whirlpool tub. It's also situated on one level, so it'd be a good fit for families with children or guests who struggle with stairs. Outside, the garden offers a private swimming pool ideal for afternoon dips and shady spots where you can sit back with a glass of wine and relax. Factor in the charming coastal villages and Blue Flag beaches within driving distance, and you can see why we like it.
