Dating back to the 19th century, this home was once owned by one of the island’s feudal landlords whose wealth stemmed from the export of Vinsanto wine, which is still produced in Santorini to this day. Traces of the home’s past can be seen in its heavy wooden doors, polished wood floors, vaulted ceilings and the original stone arch in the kitchen. Alongside these historic features, you’ll find contemporary furnishings and modern comforts aplenty – we’re particularly enchanted by the main bedroom’s dreamy four-poster bed.

It’s the home’s outsides, however, that really steals the show. Not only is there a terrace off of the kitchen equipped with a long table and chairs for alfresco meals while looking out onto  Megalorchori’s Venetian bell towers, but there’s a beautiful flower-framed courtyard too where you’ll find a dazzling swimming pool. Such is the beautiful landscape in abundance and the hilly terrain from which to appreciate it, it seems a waste to go to the Greek islands and not stay somewhere with a decent view. This villa on the highest point of Santorini's capital is, therefore, an excellent choice. From the terrace, guests are treated to a panoramic vista of the Aegean Sea and the Tholos Naftilos volcano sat in the middle.

As you would hope, there are plenty of places where you can sit and gawp at this pretty scene, including alfresco dining tables, lounges and a hot tub with an uninterrupted view of the caldera. 

Although your attention might naturally be drawn elsewhere, the home itself is a treat for the eyes, too. Although it has recently been reconstructed, it has been built in the neoclassical style popular with affluent residents that made the island their residence in the nineteenth century. As a result, you'll see domed ceilings, arched doorways and thick walls, as well as an eclectic collection of artwork and decorative items.

The prime location in the middle of Fira means that there are plenty of restaurants and cultural distractions within walking distance, including the Megaro Gizi Museum. The town's old harbour isn't too far away either.

Head of the Household

When winding up the path to this home, you'll be struck by its traditional beauty. Reminiscent of ancient Greece, the original lime kiln was built by the owner's family over two hundred years ago. Given the rustic look of this stunning villa, you wouldn't expect to see Smeg appliances, Smart TVs, and Simmons mattresses. The blend of the old meets the new is perfectly done. It's chic and comfortable while retaining that quintessentially Santorini charm.

Swing in the hammock, glide through the infinity pool, and lounge as you watch the sun dance on the Aegean Sea. The sea becomes increasingly tempting, you'll probably want to make your way to the lovely Monolithos Beach, a thirteen-minute drive away. Santorini isn't known for its beaches, but you can count on Monolithos for its soft sand, inviting waters, and plenty of sun loungers.

When you get back salty and freckly, you'll fall in love with the home's lime kiln walls all over again. Enjoy a nice, refreshing drink on the outdoor sofas as you watch the sun dip into the Aegean's inky waters, leaving the sky in pink and orange hues in its wake. When it comes to dinnertime, Santorini isn't short of restaurants. The closest being around seven minutes away by foot – enjoy all of the souvlaki, moussaka, and dolmades that your stomach can muster.

Situated underneath the Venetian-era Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, it's hard to imagine this beautiful setting being the site of a factory, but rather remarkably, this home has an industrial history. In a former life, the building was used solely for the production of wine and tsipouro.

It has since been refurbished to become a set of four self-contained homes that can be booked out all at once. There are still signs of its history, from the cave-like rooms and the massive piece of machinery that sits in the middle of one of the living rooms. 

However, there are plenty of luxurious touches that have since been added, like the swimming pool and Jacuzzi that sit in the middle of the outdoor space, as well as the dreamy rooftop terrace that looks out over the Aegean Sea and neighbouring islands.

The historic village of Pyrgos has medieval streets and alleys to peek around, as well as a handful of restaurants and the aforementioned castle. There's also an abundance of wineries in the local area if you feel inspired by the villa, as well as Kamari Beach, which can easily be reached with a car.

There's an awe-inspiring stillness to this place that undoubtedly brings blissful serenity and a refreshed state of mind from the moment you step foot on its elevated terrace overlooking the Aegean Sea. 

While undeniably beautiful interiors present a truly comfortable space to relax inside, it seems somewhat of a waste when we are ninety-nine percent sure you'll want to spend most of your time outside on the villa's surrounding patio. 

With a private heated infinity pool featuring floating sun loungers, an alfresco dining area, as well as off-pool day beds to enjoy – the terrace area is sure to soothe your soul to the core. Enjoy the warmth of Santorini's sun as you admire the breathtaking panoramic views of the seascape. And at sunset, there's simply no better place to share a home-cooked meal paired with quality wine than the alfresco dining area. 

At the end of a blissfully relaxing day either sunning on the terrace or exploring Santorini's most sought-after attractions – make your way to the enormous bathtub of the main bedroom to finish the day off the right way. Heaven.

Outside, you’ll find a terrace complete with a pool and knockout views of the Cretan Sea. Spend the day lolling about on a lounger, watching over the Venetian Castle and basking in a gentle ocean breeze. When you’re ready to explore your surroundings, the Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri is just a short walk from your doorstep, or hop across to Caldera Beach, an excellent spot for snorkelling.

Serene, with views of the iconic 19th-century Akrotiri Lighthouse and the deep blue Aegean sea from the cosy day bed or private pool, this villa is perfect for a family holiday to Santorini. Though it might not have a kitchen, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance and with a coffee machine in-house, you can at least get your caffeine fix before venturing out.  The iconic Caldera is a walk away, and White Beach is around 2km away. Enviable views, check. Location, check. Comfort, check.

Relax in the outdoor jacuzzi and take in the fantastic views of the medieval castle. This unique domed villa, influenced by traditional Aegean architecture, is dug into the rocky grounds of the ancient village of Emporio, harmoniously blending in with the beautiful landscape. Sit in the egg chair or get some shade on the loungers. The garden is perfect for an alfresco lunch of saganaki (fried cheese in filo pastry covered in honey). We love it here in the evening when the garden lights come on, giving this space a magical feel. 

Inside, whitewashed walls show off the ornately carved wood furniture to a treat. We adore the four-poster bed in the master bedroom too. This place is the perfect Santorini retreat for a family or group of friends.

If you fancy a day at the beach, Vlychada is just over a mile, while the dramatic black sands of Perissa are just over 2 miles away. For history lovers, Akrotiri, a Cycladic Bronze Age settlement, is a ten-minute drive.

From Santorini’s famous beaches (Monolithos Beach is just a seven-minute drive away) and countless cultural attractions, including museums and archaeological sites, to the island’s spectacular volcano – the area has everything to make your stay truly memorable. 


Swimming in the Clouds

Though this villa's crisp contemporary design and Cycladic architecture is eye-catching, the true magic happens only when you're facing away from it. From the tiered terrace, where you'll find ample seating and the private pool,  picture-perfect views of the rolling landscape and deep-blue Aegean Sea unfold, thanks to the house's hillside position. From here, you can reach the tavernas of picturesque Pyrgos in moments. The beach lies a little further away, but with a car rental at your disposal, it'll take minutes to get there. Throw in daily breakfast, housekeeping, and a guesthouse where four guests can seek a little more privacy, and it's a pretty sweet deal.

The Cycladic Rose

From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.


Sun Shores

Sitting close to the southern tip of Santorini, this apartment is treated to a glorious view of the Cretan Sea and better still, a large Jacuzzi from which to luxuriate while watching the sun dipping beneath the horizon. As well as that, you've also got a garden and an alfresco dining table, so you really can spend countless hours enjoying this panorama.

There will come a point when you eventually have to retreat inside and while it may be modestly sized, there's a lot to like about the apartment, particularly the design, which lies on the minimalist side of things. The whitewashed walls work well with the ample amount of natural light that comes in through the windows, and both the kitchen and bathroom are suitably sleek in style, as well.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the island, Vlychada beach lies a short walk away and Perivolos beach is a little further away but still reachable by foot. There's a sprinkling of restaurants and taverns nearby, but Fira Town is 12km away if you want a wider choice, along with a wealth of distinctive whitewashed architecture.

This unique villa on the Greek island of Santorini is located in Firostefani village known as the most beautiful secret of Santorini’s Caldera. Despite its quiet and private setting, the home is only a two-minute walk from Firostefani Central Square, which offers a variety of restaurants and cafes perfect for traditional Greek meals, as well as a great view of the caldera cliff-side while you eat. 

Slightly further away from the villa (but still within easy walking distance), you can reach Fira Town where you can visit The Museum of Prehistoric Thira, displaying artefacts from the destroyed Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri, ride the Santorini cable car down to Skala for some truly amazing views, or see the Three Bells of Fira with its iconic, blue-domed church. 

Spend relaxing hours back at the villa, lounging in the Mediterranean sunshine before plunging into the cool water of your private infinity pool. As you swim to the water’s edge and overlook the Aegean Sea, you will also be provided with a panoramic view of the island’s volcano. As the sun sets, we would love nothing more than to be sitting on the terrace beside the pool, sipping wine from the welcome hamper, and watching the colours of the sky reflected in the ocean, as the sun sinks behind the volcano, and disappears below the horizon.

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Vothonas, this traditional white-washed villa blends beautifully into the dwellings of this charming village setting. Over the patio garden wall, you'll even see one of the quintessentially Santorini windmills peaking out across the street. 

While the villa may be compact, it provides an idyllic base from which to explore the island of Santorini. In an utterly blissful setting, you'll feel the holiday vibes from the moment you arrive out by the private pool. Through the arched wall, serve up delicious breakfasts at the sunny alfresco dining area before setting off for a beach day at Kamari Beach – only a twelve-minute drive away.

Although it’s not the largest or most impressive of our Santorini homes, this apartment has a fresh and modern feel and would suit a couple perfectly for a long weekend getaway. The white-washed private terrace is the ideal spot to tuck into a Greek Salad, while the outdoor heated Jacuzzi is perfect for relaxing and watching the sun go down.
