The views over the caldera from this cave home’s terrace in Oia are stunning. There are not one, but two Jacuzzis to relax in, one indoors and one outdoors with incredible vistas, while inside, the décor is classic and charming. A few things to note, we’d say –  the wifi can be a bit patchy, especially towards the back of the house. Also, you don’t get a sunset or sunrise view, but the vistas are fabulous even without them and it’s just a few minutes’ stroll to a sunset vantage point in the town. In fact, the location is ideal as you can walk to boutiques, restaurants and bars.

You can even hear the waves from the comfort of your sofa. The balcony door in the living room boasts a fantastic view of the vista, perfect for when those pesky TV adverts come on. And when it's time to get out and explore, you couldn't be better positioned – you'll be right by the entrance to Oia village, with its Renaissance-era castle (built to guard against pirates) and famous church reachable in just ten minutes. If it's a day at the beach you're after, Ammoundi Bay is a four-minute drive or twenty-minute stroll (make sure you stop by one of the seafood restaurants for lunch). 

Back at home, we think evenings are best spent in the hot tub – half-shaded and given complete privacy by the arch of the staircase, with the other half offering incredible sunset views as you sit back in the bubbling water, with a glass of bubbly in hand (of course). Bliss. 

Let's Chill in the Cave

200 years ago, this windmill produced bread for the whole of Santorini. Today, it’s a dreamy retreat just for two. The interiors reflect the natural landscape, with buttery-smooth white stone, cool greys and dashes of turquoise and deep blue. Wake up with freshly strained yoghurt and local honey in the peaceful living space before waltzing out onto the pristine terrace for a spot of sun-worshipping. 

Exploring begins after lunch – clear away the plates and amble into the centre of Oia, fifteen minutes from your doorstep. If you’re feeling adventurous, seek out a cliff jumping spot at Amoudi Bay and plunge into the Aegean’s clear, cool waters. But if you’d prefer to stick to dry land, find a spot on the rocks to watch the waves gently lap the shore.  

When it’s time for supper, weave through streets sprayed with bougainvillaea to find a quaint seafood eatery. After a slap-up feast, hurry home just in time for sunset. Take your place in the private hot tub with a glass of fizz and watch the sky burn orange.
