When presented with this prime spot in the south of Paros with a glorious view of the sparkling Aegean Sea in the distance, the two civil engineers that designed this villa decided to opt for simplicity. Judging by the finished project, we'd say that was a wise choice.

The building embraces Cycladic architectural trends for clean lines, boxy shapes and pure white walls. The outside space is dominated by the swimming pool, which is surrounded by loungers and a covered terrace area that's home to a traditional stone barbecue. It's perfectly possible to spend your whole day out here, admiring the Mediterranean panorama.

Heading inside, the generously sized rooms are home to contemporary furnishings and a sleek minimalist kitchen, although there are enough quirky touches to keep it from looking too anonymous – the driftwood lampshade above the dining table is particularly eye-catching. On the lower ground floor, there's also a large multi-functional room that holds workout equipment and games.

As you can guess from the coastal view, the nearest beach isn't too far away – Paralia Makra Miti takes only seven minutes to reach on foot. The town of Alyki is a five-minute drive away and the island's main town of Paroikia takes a quarter of an hour.

When you set your eyes on this villa, you’ll know you’re somewhere special – its white exterior creates a powerful juxtaposition to the grey brick walls that flank it. Situated in southern Paros, above Faragas beach, 2 km away from the lovely village of Aliki and 15 km from Parika, the main town, constructed on the site of the ancient city and capital. Farafas beach is positioned between two capes that form a windless bay - it is a little sandy beach with shimmering blue seas, a restaurant and a beach bar for those refreshments throughout the day.

The main bedroom in the main villa is located upstairs and has a private balcony, a great way to start the morning with a coffee in hand. Inside, the design is big on cleansing white shades, whether on the walls, furnishings or minimalist kitchen. After a day of sunning and swimming, you're bound to be hungry. Make your way to the gorgeous Parikia, where its bright white buildings, fuschia coloured flowers, and blue shutters will make you fall in love with the place. It's just a ten-minute drive away and there, you can walk the cobbled streets, nip in trinket shops, drink local wine, and eat all of the delicious Greek food that your stomach will allow.

We couldn't fail to be impressed by the outdoor kitchen and barbecue area, which is tailor-made for sociable evenings that continue until well after the sun has sunk over the Aegean. Not to mention the lounge area with sea views, which is a flawless spot to while away a day beneath cloudless Cycladic skies.

With the mercury rising, you might want to head down to the beach club on Faragas Beach, where you can hire sun loungers for the day, enjoy cooling dips in the crystal-clear waters and tuck into sumptuous seafood. Alternatively, drive 15km into the island's capital of Parikia, crisscrossed by winding cobbled lanes and dotted with quaint shops, traditional restaurants and the 13th-century Frankish Castle.

With your helpful hosts on hand, you can toss out the guidebook and simply ask them for those tips and tricks that only locals know about. For an authentic island experience, it doesn't get much better than this.

Tucked away down an alleyway in one of the oldest buildings on the island, the unmistakable blue doors lead into a quaint tiled courtyard with a table and chairs set up for you to enjoy your morning coffee outdoors. Step through the quirky archway door and into this peaceful haven, furnished with pieces created by skilled local craftspeople. Hand-carved stone peeks out from the walls throughout the home, and an original Cycladic fireplace adds plenty of character to the bedroom.

Step through a second interior archway and you'll find a sparkling modern kitchen that's perfect for recreating traditional taverna classics in the comfort of your own home. But with all the recommendations you'll have been provided, it might be a while before it sees any action.

One of the more modest villas in our collection, this home's excellent location meant that we felt compelled to include it. As you look out at the sparkling Aegean Sea while tending to the barbecue on the terrace or make the sixty-second stroll down to Farangas Beach, you might be inclined to think we made the right choice.

That's not to say the home itself is a compromise in any way. The architecture is traditionally Cycladic in influence, with arched doorways, exposed stonework and wooden ceiling beams. Some of the furnishings are in keeping with this aesthetic, like the weathered coffee table and mirror frame, but there are others, such as the mid-century-inspired chairs in the living room, that add a little more contemporary flair.

As well as the beach almost literally on your doorstep, there are restaurants and a few more seaside spots in the next village over of Aliki, around five minutes' drive away. The island's main town of Parikia takes just under twenty minutes to reach in the car, too.

Paralia Agia Irini is particularly lovely, its tranquillity matches that of the villa. Palm trees line this small beach, a hidden treasure indeed. The beach bar is within easy reach, and a nice cold Mythos goes down exceptionally well.

Head to Parikia for a night on the town. It's just a twelve-minute drive and your gateway to the very best of Paros living. Cobbled streets are lined with   Cycladic whitewashed houses, blue shuttered windows, fuschia coloured flowers, and the sound of the sea is never too far away. Tuck in to delicious Greek cuisine - think moussaka, souvlaki, dolmades, and so much more. When you get back home, continue the good times and crack open a bottle of local wine to be enjoyed in the hot tub, as you watch the stars twinkle above you.

This home on Paros is a true escape from everyday life, where larger groups can come together and spend some quality time together. And, with a main villa and separate guest house, everyone has their own space to kick back and relax. 

There are plenty of rustic touches, from the exposed stone walls inside to the traditional white-washed exterior. You'll love soaking up the sun on the patio and taking a dip in the swimming pool when the temperature rises. Afternoons are best spent on the terrace reading a good book, and it's also an excellent spot to enjoy cocktail hour with a sea view. And, in the evening, you can fire up the barbeque and serve up a delicious alfresco feast for the whole group. 

Fans of the seaside will be delighted that there are several beaches just a ten-minute drive away – including Lolantonis and Chrissi Akti. Lie back on the golden sands, or swim in the turquoise blue waters, before refueling at one of the local tavernas. The town of Parikia is just twenty-five kilometers away, where you will find gorgeous cobbled streets, tiny churches, and the white and blue architecture that the Greek islands are famous for.

And, with the historic main town of Parikia just ten kilometres away, culture fans will be kept happy too.

We adore the vistas from the infinity pool – bask in the sun on the loungers or savour a Greek feast at the covered outdoor dining table. Surrounded by a natural, unspoilt landscape with pretty wildflowers, thyme and ancient olive trees, we can’t think of a better setting for an island vacation.

Admire the seascape from inside, too, with its charming rattan furnishings and whitewashed walls. This home is perfect for a family or group of friends seeking tranquillity.

When you feel like exploring, Antiparos town is 6 kilometres away – discover its Venetian castle, churches and boutiques or spend the day at the beach nearby – absolute bliss.


Blue Campanula 

Up above the charming village of Drios, this Paros villa enjoys views over the sugar-cube houses all the way to islands floating on the sea. Spend days swinging in the hammock with a book, or plunging into the bean-shape pool with its infinity edge blending with the blue sky above. The long, covered terrace is home to stone-hewn sofas piled high with cushions and dining for the whole group – particularly atmospheric after sunset when the lanterns are lit and coastal villages sparkle to life before you.

Heading inside, the living room is a vision of Grecian rusticana, with an old whitestone fireplace at its centre. We particularly love the willow-pattern boat motif on the kitchen tiles that blends with nautical-blue cabinets, while the glassware and crockery feel like it’s been made from foraged sea-glass. If you want a quiet moment, there’s a second sitting room, tucked away in an exposed-stone enclave. 

Although sandy Golden Beach is only two kilometres away, it’s not within walking distance as the home is fairly remote and only accessible via a narrow, unpaved road. If you fancy spending the day at a smaller beach, we recommend you drive further down the coast to Drios Beach, three kilometres away. There you'll also find a handful of bakeries for breakfast and tavernas for long lunches by the sea.

Sea Glass At Sunset

If sweeping views out to sea are what you’re looking for, you’ll love this modern villa. Tucked away in a peaceful residential area on the east side of Paros, this crisp, clean space boasts views of the Aegean from the living room – what more could you want from your Grecian getaway? 

The property has been designed in a horseshoe shape, with the pool and terrace at its heart. The communal spaces and bedrooms lead straight outside, allowing you to embrace the flow of island living. We loved waking up in the morning and slipping straight out of bed and into the pool for a dip, before filling up on pastries and fresh fruit at the breakfast bar. 
For evening meals, you can head to Parikia – just 4km away – or do as we did and fire up the charcoal barbecue. The outdoor dining area is covered by a pergola, handily hidden away at the back of the property for added privacy. Load up fresh seafood and local wine, and settle in for a feast. 

For those able to drag themselves away from the pool, there’s plenty to see and do nearby. The beautiful beaches of Parasporos and Agia Irini are just a few minutes’ drive from the villa, and an excursion to Antiparos, a small island in the southern Aegean, makes for a memorable day out. Hop on a ferry from the petite port of Punta and while away the hours meandering along cobbled streets. Admire the white houses and the magnificent flowers that bloom in the gardens before heading back to the villa to take in the sunset with a cocktail.

It's part of a small resort complex – there are two other buildings on the estate that can also be rented out – and offers unobstructed views across the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea. The home is spread over two floors, so may not be suitable for individuals with reduced mobility. The kitchen is small but fully equipped and while there's no swimming pool here, it is an easy stroll to a sandy beach. While you can explore the local area on foot, we suggest a car for ease so you can discover more of the island.

Livadia Beach, with its sandy shoreline, is just over three kilometres away, where you can paddle in the crystal clear water. When you get hungry there are several beach bars and restaurants lining the beach, and the sunsets are pretty spectacular. If you fancy doing some more exploring then head inland – you'll find charming villages and hilltop churches, giving you a real taste of Paros.

Come dinnertime, prepare a mouth-watering alfresco feast using the built-in barbecue and outdoor wood-fired oven, digging into your fare around the expansive table. And you won't want to miss the sunsets, either. Pull up a seat, pour yourself a glass of wine and get ready to be dazzled by the purple-painted horizon. 

The island of Paros is begging to be explored if you can drag yourself away from this private paradise. Parikia, the capital, is only a seven-minute drive – head there for eateries, cultural landmarks and cobbled alleys lined with pretty white houses and flowered balconies. Sandy, picturesque beaches are a dime a dozen here and are all easily reached by car – including Krios, Marcelo and Livadia, just five minutes away.

Located just a couple of feet from the sea and only 100 metres from the vast sandy shores of Golden Beach, this architectural splendour is all set up for large friendly get-togethers and family celebrations. 

Stepping inside, you'll find an impressive open-plan living space with a minimalist, almost Ibicenco-style, that creates a soothing place to relax and unwind out of the heat. Rattan furnishings, straw fedoras and the neutral colour palette will soon have you feeling right at ease. 

Glide seamlessly to the modern kitchen or slide open the glass doors and spill out into the private garden. Find a quiet reading spot in the comfort of a hanging egg chair or a stylish Acapulco, listening to the gentle breeze rustling through the surrounding trees and foliage. 

Swim a couple of leisurely laps before picking out a lounger to bask in the Mediterranean sunshine. When lunchtime arrives, grill locally sourced meats and fish on the barbecue and feast together under the shaded pergola.

When you're not soaking up the plush atmosphere of your pad, take a trip to the charming town of Drios, where fantastic tavernas, cafes and sandy beaches all vie for your attention. Follow the pedestrian trail right from your doorstep to the picturesque fisherman's port, only two minutes away on foot.

Just 70 metres away from sandy Lolantonis beach and a short walk along the 1.5km coastal path to the port of Dryros where tavernas, bars and a supermarket await, this home is a practical option for families in search of an easy-going coastal escape. Located alongside two other villas (which can also be rented for larger groups), you’ll find the sea views are the real highlight along with the veranda – the perfect spot for balmy evening drinks. While we think the single beds in the main bedroom are best suited to children, there are additional upsides such as twice-weekly housekeeping and your host being able to arrange special extras like boat trips and guided island tours.
