This monochrome delight in the centre of Thessaloniki first caught our attention with its cool and consistent colour scheme. We especially love the sleek black kitchen, ideal for the budding chefs in the group, and the balcony with its view of the local area. Unfortunately, there isn't enough sofa space for everyone in the living room, but the home's excellent location means you'll have plenty of excuses to head out – you'll find a myriad of parks, museums and restaurants just a short stroll away.

Exploring the UNESCO city of Thessaloniki and other Northern Greece gems is a cinch from this pocket-sized studio apartment. You're within easy walking distance of Thessaloniki train station, and there's free street parking right outside. Granted, the kitchenette is small, but it's surprisingly well-equipped. The private balcony for evening drinks is a nice touch too. It's worth noting, though, if three of you share, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed –⁠ so privacy and space are lacking here. Expect to pay a small fee for your initial supply of bedding and towels, too.

Though not the biggest, this is a comfortable home for four guests and the balcony is a nice touch, offering a sunny spot for your morning coffee. Parking can be tricky and you’ll need to pay in the city centre, but transport links are just five minutes away at Aristotelous Square, and with local amenities and sights within walking distance of the apartment, we’d recommend exploring on foot.

This modern apartment is a fuss-free base to return to after days spent exploring sun-soaked Thessaloniki. We recommend hiring a car if you want to visit the beach or attractions such as the Church of Saint Paul and the White Tower. You will, however, find restaurants close by, which is handy, as the kitchen here is only suitable for light bites. The home also features a private balcony for enjoying a cup of coffee, and the pared-back bedroom is plenty comfortable.

You'll find this apartment in the heart of Thessaloniki. Restaurants on your doorstep, landmarks within walking distance, the sea only a short stroll away – how's that for a top-notch location? The apartment itself isn't bad, either. We like the jungle themed-design, and although some rooms are a little dated (namely the bathroom), there's a decent amount of space here for families and friends. But our favourite is the small balcony overlooking the street – it's the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine in the salt-tinged air.

Beneath the villa's exposed wooden rafters, bespoke carpentry and statement lighting fuse together for a refreshing touch of modernity. And there's everything you need to rustle up a bite to eat in the compact but well-equipped, modern kitchen.

When it's time for adventure, seek out the hiking trails lacing through the surrounding hillsides. Take an amble into the dreamy village of Agios Geogrios Nilia (seven minutes on foot) for a feast in its traditional tavernas. Or follow the winding mountain roads down through the clouds and chestnut forests to the sandy beaches (half an hour's drive).

At this particular villa, you're well catered for when it comes to inviting alfresco areas – including several poolside sun loungers, a hammock and a summer kitchen, as well as three veranda terraces with a dining table overlooking the beautiful sea views in the distance. When dinnertime beckons, enjoy one last dip in your private pool before grilling locally sourced produce on the barbecue and feasting together under the shaded pergola. 

On the ground floor, you'll immediately notice the high-end touch that's been given to the traditional space – from the modern fireplace to the wood-framed sofa, basket chairs and stylish decor. It's the ideal spot to flop down with a good book or a cup of Greek coffee. Upstairs, there are three comfortable bedrooms with original wood-beamed ceilings and even space for working from home. Combining natural materials with contemporary interiors, we think it's a lovely villa to call home for a while. 

Head out to explore and in addition to the small towns nearby, the nearest sandy beach of Paralia Platanidia, boasting crystal-clear waters and picturesque shores, is just twenty-five minutes away by car. 

Mainland Mist

Close to the Church of Holy Apostles, this cosy apartment makes for the perfect base for exploring Thessaloniki. Though the kitchenette is small, it does have all of the key appliances needed to whip up a home-cooked meal, though we’d recommend sampling some of the local eateries. Featuring a double bedroom and a single sofa bed, we think this home is best suited to a couple looking for a romantic break or a small family. Paid parking is available close to the apartment, but with so many bus stops close by it’s easy to get around the city on public transport. 

Greek Oasis

With its enviable location in the centre of Thessaloniki, exploring the city comes easily here. You’ll find a whole host of restaurants and bars on your doorstep, ready to serve up some delicious cuisine, and you’re within walking distance of many local sights and monuments too – a car really isn’t necessary. The quaint balcony is a nice added extra and offers a sunny spot for a morning cuppa or evening tipple. Perfect for couples or solo travellers, you’re equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay, including a desk for remote working.

With stunning sea views and luxury interiors, you'll feel as though you're the kings of the castle. Nestled in a natural setting, it's been lovingly modernised with a great deal of attention paid to its eco-credentials. It's far from rustic, despite its stone walls and shutters, with spacious rooms, comfortable bedrooms and stylish bathrooms. Cosy, organic bedding and locally-produced natural bathroom essentials mean you needn't worry too much about your carbon footprint. Cook your meals in the kitchen, where everything you could need has already been thought of, and choose between eating at the pretty dining table in the open-plan living room, or outside on the terrace. More laid-back than other towns in Halkidiki, it's a great spot for a low-key getaway – and it's where you'll find this pet-friendly apartment. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea, the private terrace is ideal for soaking up the sunshine and scenery. It's part of a resort, so you'll also have access to a communal swimming pool (open seasonally) and the small bay at the base of the (very steep) hill. The interiors are a little lacklustre and veer towards dated, but the location speaks for itself. Your host is also happy to arrange excursions, boat trips and other fun-filled activities for a fee.

A clear blue swimming pool or the crystalline Aegean Sea – the choice is yours at this villa on the Kassandra Peninsula. You’re just a few metres from the beach, yet the buzzing coastal towns of Pefkohori and Chaniotis are both a five-minute drive away. A stone path leads across the lawn to the shimmering swimming pool. Two levels of balconies and terraces give you a choice of spots for drinks outside. The bright and open living area is a stylish spot for the group to hang out and each bedroom opens up to a terrace, balcony or patio.
