This huge villa on the south coast of Syros is equally impressive inside and out. On summer days, you're sure to want to pass afternoons in the swimming pool full of multicolour LED lights and Jacuzzi, before whipping up a feast in the barbecue area. Just beyond this, there's a well-maintained garden as well as a private beach measuring thirty metres long.

Although it faces tough competition, the interior somehow manages to match this. The all-white walls, floor and furnishings are instantly soothing and allow for some of the more characterful touches to really pop out, including bold pieces of artwork, rustic wood decorations and nods to the area's nautical history — the kid's bed shaped like a boat is particularly adorable. The gym and home cinema will be appreciated by some of the guests as well.

In addition to the neighbouring seaside, the town of Ermoupoli takes only thirteen minutes to reach in the car and offers a range of historic monuments, museums, and a gallery. Gria Cave is under thirty minutes' drive away, too.

Perched on a hilltop within walking distance of Agios Prokopios Beach and a short car ride from Naxos, this room offers a restful stay for a couple or solo traveller. There’s no kitchen here, so you’ll need to head out at mealtimes. Fortunately, there are plenty of tavernas within driving distance of your doorstep. Our favourite feature was the terrace – we couldn’t get enough of the private pool, especially after a nap on the loungers.

Daydreams in Sunshine

Chic and stylish, this suite has an air of understated luxury. While it’s on the small side, the private garden has more than enough space for two and boasts a private pool. There’s no kitchen here, so we think this home is best suited to a couple or two friends who want to relax and take time off from everyday tasks. There’s a Greek taverna close by where you can sample some of the local cuisine, and you’ll have your own dining table to sit and enjoy a coffee each morning. The location is a real selling point – the beautiful Laguna Beach is just 550 metres away.

It’s worth noting that Chora, the main village, is 23 kilometres away, so you’ll need a car to get around.

When in Greece, it's imperative to sample the local beaches – start off with Agios Sostis, just five minutes away by car, or twenty minutes on foot. This calm expanse is well off the tourist trail, so you won't have to compete for a sunny spot on the sand.

Tinos town is just a ten-minute drive away. Here, you'll have a choice of charming tavernas to choose from, each serving traditional cuisine with fresh local ingredients. Finish the meal with a slice of baklava, then head home to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down.

Every now and again, when you need some respite from the heat, sink into the private pool and enjoy a gentle swim as the sea sparkles before you, inviting you to visit its sandy shores. Glyfadi beach is a mere 900-metre stroll from your home-away-from-home and well worth a visit, particularly for a spot of snorkelling.

While all three bedrooms offer sea and sunset views, we recommend heading out onto the terrace before nightfall. Fire up the barbecue and grill up a delicious dinner, uncork a bottle of wine and settle down on the sun loungers – the best is yet to come. One thing to note – the villa’s accommodation is split between the main house and an apartment and guest house, so it's ideal for large families and friends. Out and about, there are gorgeous wineries and beaches to explore, including Aspros Gremos, a short drive away.

What’s more, there is a regular ferry connection between Athens and Kea which takes about an hour, taking you to the Lavrion port. From here, you can drive about fifty-six minutes to Greece’s capital and explore everything Athens has to offer.

Outside, you’re spoiled for choice for places to stretch out in the sunshine. Spend mornings dipping in and out of the pool before sitting down for breakfast on the terrace. Snooze in the daybed, recline on a lounger or make yourself comfortable in a deck chair with a good book and a cup of Greek coffee. 

In the afternoon, take the five-minute drive down to Fellos Beach for a swim in the turquoise water and a stroll along the white sand. When you’re ready for dinner, the nearby port town of Gavrio with its selection of quaint tavernas is an excellent choice for a slap-up supper.

This luxurious villa overlooks stunning sea views and sits just moments away from the famous Psarou beach, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing Mykonos holiday. With a private pool and plenty of space for alfresco feasts and sunset cocktails, you can get fully immersed in the island living here. The inside boasts a sleek and comfy design, with each one of the plush bedrooms featuring an en-suite bathroom. Bear in mind that there are quite a few stairs to climb here so children will need to be supervised.

Perched on a hill just south of Ramos village, this stone-built home offers a tranquil retreat on the unspoiled island of Serifos. The Cycladic villa is flooded with natural light and decorated with an earthy, organic flair – think wooden beams and exposed stone walls. A homely and rural haven, you'll feel at peace within moments of arriving. 

Not only is this home aesthetically pleasing, but it's also well-outfitted with all you'll need to eat, sleep and enjoy some well-deserved leisure time. Try your hand at Greek cooking in the blue-hued kitchen – with double doors opening onto your terrace – then glide outside to dine al fresco with views of the Aegean Sea. Your closest access point, Karavi beach, is just a five-minute drive away. This secluded cove is enclosed by low, craggy hills, opening out into impossibly blue waters. Spend the morning here before driving fifteen minutes inland to the postcard-perfect town of Chora. Wind through narrow streets lined with buttermilk buildings to reach the traditional windmills that watch over the community.

The Blue Beam

One of the more modest villas in our collection, this home's excellent location meant that we felt compelled to include it. As you look out at the sparkling Aegean Sea while tending to the barbecue on the terrace or make the sixty-second stroll down to Farangas Beach, you might be inclined to think we made the right choice.

That's not to say the home itself is a compromise in any way. The architecture is traditionally Cycladic in influence, with arched doorways, exposed stonework and wooden ceiling beams. Some of the furnishings are in keeping with this aesthetic, like the weathered coffee table and mirror frame, but there are others, such as the mid-century-inspired chairs in the living room, that add a little more contemporary flair.

As well as the beach almost literally on your doorstep, there are restaurants and a few more seaside spots in the next village over of Aliki, around five minutes' drive away. The island's main town of Parikia takes just under twenty minutes to reach in the car, too.

Morning Swim

Offering an enviable waterfront location and a cool, beachy vibe this typically Greek-style villa on the gorgeous Greek Island of Paros provides the ideal location for a sun-soaked escape by the sea.

Lounge by the pool, catching a few rays as the waves of the Aegean gently lap at the shores, providing what we think might be the most relaxing soundtrack in the world, replicate some of the dishes you've found on your explorations of the island, grilling up crunchy vegetables and marinated seafood on the barbecue with a glass of chilled wine in hand, or find a cosy corner in which to park yourself with a good book. 

The home sits on a large plot, so that, coupled with the tranquil sea views, makes this place feel serene, private, and at one with its surroundings. Make the most of the laid-back atmosphere and grab yourself a cocktail, head to one of the terraces or balconies, and watch as the sun begins to dip low and kiss the crests of the waves.

When you do want to leave the tranquillity of the villa, you'll find yourself within walking distance of beautiful beaches (other than the one right in front of the home), and a short drive from the pretty port town of Naousa, home to whitewashed buildings, shops, and lively tavernas.

Tsoukalakia beach is 2 kilometres away, and Ambelas beach is a short drive. The villa boasts its own private pool and a lovely terrace with views. There’s a shaded dining area and a barbecue, ideal for those lazy days in the sunshine.
