For those who appreciate traditional charm, and who want to stay in a more authentic village setting, this comfortable home is spacious, stone-clad and ever-so private. Surrounded by olive groves and farmland, it's tucked away in the village of Vanato and feels far from the busy resorts – yet it's just 3km from Zakynthos Town and the long sandy beaches of Tsilivi. 

All arranged on the ground floor, this place is full of character – we love the fireplace, the vaulted timber ceilings and the numerous patio doors that allow most of the rooms to open out to the garden. There's a modern, fully kitted-out kitchen, a built-in barbecue outside and tables both indoors and out. And the master bedroom is a real treat, with its vast space easily fitting not one but two king-size beds pushed together for the ultimate luxury. Step outside and your flat lawns are perfect for kids to play on, with a private pool, sun loungers and plenty of privacy thanks to walls and screen hedges.

Surrounded by vineyards, this home ticks the box on tranquillity, but just because it’s secluded doesn’t mean it's boring. You’ll find the town centre and its buzzing nightlife only a short drive away, and you can spend the next day rehydrating in the shade of a beach umbrella on Tsilivi. Or, if it’s caffeine you need, take a short stroll to one of several coffee shops and bakeries nearby. Although spacious enough, the house isn’t large, so when you need a little extra breathing room, venture into the garden or open the bifold doors separating the living room from the swimming pool for fresh air.

It’s worth noting that at full occupancy five guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, some of which are located in bedrooms where other guests will also be sleeping, so this layout might not work for everyone.

This villa is a really special home. It can be found in Machairado village – an almost untouched part of Zakynthos at the heart of the island. The home is on a vast plot of land, tucked away amid acres of lush greenery so if peace and quiet are what you’re craving, you’re in luck. 

You could easily spend your whole stay on the property, with your every need catered for. Hire a private chef and enjoy your meals at any one of the many dining areas in the grounds – we’re particularly fond of the tables on the covered terrace, where you can shelter from the midday sun and still enjoy the views all the way to the mountains. A huge brick barbecue sits alongside its own bar area to the side of the pool, the perfect setting for celebrations. 

The heart-shaped pool takes pride of place at the centre of the outside space. The hydro-massage jets mean it’s a hub of relaxation. After a morning spent floating and feeling your worries melt away, head to the tennis court. There’s also table tennis, a basketball hoop and billiards, so nobody is likely to feel bored. 

If you do feel the urge to explore beyond the gates, you can be in Zakynthos town in just fifteen minutes. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars and activity, and you can be back in time to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets. 


Heart of Zakynthos

Located on the lush green island of Zakynthos – and with direct access to the sea – this unique villa is a great choice for a family getaway or holiday with friends. The home has been decorated in neutral tones and is spread across two levels with no lift access – so may not be suitable for individuals with reduced mobility. Guests are free to use the gym equipment and will benefit from a fully equipped kitchen area, as well as brick-built BBQ facilities for alfresco dining. We love the ocean views this villa offers, as well as the private infinity pool – complete with a hydromassage feature. We recommend hiring a car for your stay so you can explore the island with ease.

Across the Azure

One of a collection of recently built villas on the outskirts of Zakynthos Town, this is contemporary Greek living at its finest.

With huge windows and glass doors running along the walls, the home is spoilt when it comes to natural light and this plentiful asset is only accentuated more by the cleansingly white walls, floors and ceilings. Save for some Scandi-inspired wood surfaces, most of the furnishings are similarly muted in colour, which makes for an instantly relaxing atmosphere.

If things get a little too sedate, however, all you have to do is head out into the outdoor space and splash about in the swimming pool or light up the barbecue ahead of an alfresco banquet. When the sun starts to set, head up to one of the balconies to watch the sky change colour over the Ionian Sea.

When the coastal panorama proves too tempting, you can walk down to Akrotiri Beach in less than a quarter of an hour. The restaurants and museums of Zakynthos Town are only five minutes' drive away, too.

A Twinkle in the Eye

Effortlessly cool, this villa is more than up to the task of competing with the incredible sea views here. With two open-plan living areas, you can break off into smaller groups before coming together at the shaded outdoor dining area overlooking the sea – book a chef through your host and spend more time with a cocktail in hand. Each bedroom features a view of the ocean or the garden, meaning everyone is happy with the sleeping arrangements. And although we wouldn’t blame you for staying at home the entire time, nearby you’ll find the home of famed poet Dionysios Solomos, perfect for literature buffs. For everyone else, the nearest beach is just over half a kilometre away.

The Archangel

When holidaying on one of the Greek islands, it's tempting to find a home as close as possible to the sea, but there's a lot to be said for settling on somewhere in the mountainous interior instead. When you experience the peace and tranquillity that surrounds this villa in the heart of Zakynthos, you'll see what we mean.

Surrounded by woodland and verdant hillsides, you'll find it easy to completely switch off and relax at this address, with long days in the sunshine sure to be packed with paddling in the pool, sunbathing on the loungers and whipping up dinner on the barbecue. The balconies are a prime spot for catching the sunset, too.

The home itself is generously sized with heaps of natural light coming in through the windows. We have to concede that it's not the most modern when it comes to interior design, with some parts looking a little dated. However, aesthetics aside, there are a few amenities that will help you feel at home, including the corner bathtub and fireplace in the living room.

Although you could enjoy a relaxing stay without leaving the address, there are some attractions to explore not too far away. The nearest village, for instance, is Vougiato only a kilometre away, while Laganas Beach is 9k away. The island's main town is a similar distance, too.







In a Perfect World

Sun worshippers will feel right at home at this gorgeous villa on the outskirts of Ampelokipoi. Not only is it just a ten-minute drive from Laganas beach, but it benefits from a sprawling garden with more than enough room for nine. The pool is ideal for cooling off on non-beach days, and the pergola is the perfect spot for an evening mezze feast. The only downside is that this home is part of a development, and the low garden walls may mean more neighbourly interaction than you bargained for. But with Mykonos Town within easy reach, you can always opt for an evening out if you need a change of scenery. 

Pomegranate Syrup

Located in the Lithakia village of Zakynthos, this Greek villa provides lovely views of the Ionian Ocean in one direction and mountains in the other. Wake up to sunshine and fantastic views here before enjoying a breakfast of Greek Yoghurt and honey topped with handfuls of nuts on the veranda or under the shade of the pergola. 

Lounge beside the pool and soak up the sunshine, enjoy a book of Greek myths from the comfort of the hanging wicker egg chair, or simply take some time to admire the amazing sea vistas on offer.

Spend days at the beach – just an eleven-minute drive away, or explore Zante town and port – reachable in twenty minutes by car. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy in Zante Town, or, of course, you could return home and enjoy a homemade moussaka alfresco with views of the ocean, or even take advantage of the barbecue and grill some delicious souvlaki under the shaded pergola. 

Zen in Zakynthos

Nestled in a sprawling estate, filled with vineyards, olive groves, fruit trees, and flowers, you'll find this dreamy villa. With a tranquil setting, plenty of space for all your guests, and a range of amenities to keep everyone occupied, it's the perfect place to call home during your trip to Zakynthos. 

The rustic architecture echoes days gone by, and the interior design combines traditional luxury with modern comforts. You'll love the checkered floor tiles and chandeliers, which add a sense of grandeur to the space, along with the huge patio doors that allow you to embrace indoor-outdoor living. You can play a game of tennis on the private court, or challenge your guests to a round of table-tennis in the garden. If you prefer to take it easy, grab a book and lounge beside the pool, before plunging in for a refreshing dip. And, as evening falls, gather your group at the alfresco dining table for a feast, with the stunning mountain landscapes as your backdrop. 

The coast is under 7km away by car, and you could spend an eternity exploring the hidden coves and pretty coastal scenes. Dafni Beach, an 18km drive away, is a particular gem – it's a quiet spot with soft sands where you might even see some turtles. And, with Zakynthos Town only 8km away, culture fans will be happy – visit museums, tour Orthodox churches, and dine on local delicacies at the range of excellent restaurants.  

Noble Soul

There’s not much better than lazing on a sun lounger and feeling the balmy breeze on your face, is there? This hilltop villa is surrounded by lush olive groves and offers incredible panoramas of the entire island of Zakynthos. A dip in the pool comes with a side of sea views, enhanced by the inviting aroma of the orange and lemon trees planted around the property. 
The kitchen boasts views of the Ionian Sea, while the veranda – an ideal spot for dinner – showcases the natural beauty of the island. The first-floor bedrooms all have a balcony, so you can drink in the vista from the moment you wake up. 

Make the most of the enviable location by booking a day of sailing. Take in Zakynthos’ majestic coastline from the water, and perhaps find a quiet cove where you can enjoy a picnic lunch. If you prefer to stay on terra firma, the villa is a mere 1.5km from Bochali, one of the most picturesque parts of the island, and home to a gorgeous harbour.

There are plenty of beaches within striking distance, but our favourite is Tsilivi, the second largest on the island. The white sand and crystal clear waters are just a ten-minute drive away from the villa, so you can be back in plenty of time to fire up the barbecue. 


Olive Grove Hill

Amidst endless rows of olive groves, vineyards, and flourishing green fields that stretch as far as the eye can see rests this Zakynthos oasis filled with charm, character and blissful serenity. 

Warm colours, modern furnishings and quirky designs create a welcoming space to enjoy with contentment. While the interior presents a cool and inviting home to find refuge away from the sun, the exterior in the garden is sure to appeal to guests the most. 

From the bedroom suites, step straight out from the exterior door and onto the sunkissed terrace area, filled with grassy lawned patches, Mediterranean plants and flowers and a large refreshing swimming pool at its centre. Enjoy barbecued meals out on the elevated veranda terrace before gathering around the pergola come evening time on the comfortable couches with a glass of wine in hand. 

Outside of the home, lap up the local culinary delights and vibrant nightlife of Zakynthos town (5 kilometres away), or opt for a more relaxing time in the local area of Aprilla. Explore the crystal clear waters where you may even catch a glimpse of the protected Caretta sea turtles with a day trip out to Kalamaki Beach – 3.5 kilometres away. Or why not sign up for a boat tour of the island, stopping at the famous Shipwreck beach – one of Europe's most beautiful secluded beaches?


Cocooning

Surrounded by olive groves and situated a five-minute walk from Boukas Beach, this stone villa offers peace and quiet away from the buzz of Zante town. Or why not head north to Skinari, a forty-seven-minute drive away, for boat trips to the famous Shipwreck Cove and Blue Caves.

Summer Melody

Located just a couple of kilometres from the vast sandy beach and crystal-clear waters of Laganas Beach, this two-storey villa is perfectly set up for large get-togethers with your extended family, or a large group of friends. 

On the ground floor, you'll find an impressive open-plan space with sky-high ceilings and a mezzanine level above. The ability to glide seamlessly across the polished concrete floor between the kitchen and seating area means that whoever's cooking for the group can flit between socialising and keeping an eye on whatever's in the oven.

You'll find a couple of en-suite bedrooms on this floor, each capable of accommodating up to five guests. Upstairs, there are a further two en-suite bedrooms with space for a further four guests in each, bringing the total guest count up to eighteen.
