From the infinity pool, you can gaze out at the Elafiti Islands floating on the horizon. Cocktails in the outdoor lounge beneath the pergola are particularly good at sunset and alfresco dinners can be enjoyed next to an ancient olive tree.

Inside, the raw wood and ink-black motif gives a Japanese zen vibe to the open-plan living area. Choose to sit down to formal meals at the banquet-sized dining table, or perch up at the sleek breakfast bar for a quick start to the day. Alongside blissfully zen bedrooms upstairs, you’ll find a glass-fronted balcony overlooking the sparkling Adriatic.

The villa is located in Orašac, a little coastal village with a handful of beachy tavernas and bars serving local cuisine from the sea and mountains. The horseshoe-shaped pebble beach here slips away into emerald-green water and has a swim platform for hot days. If you want to discover Dubrovnik’s ancient history, the Old Town is just a half-hour drive or taxi ride away.

There's so much to love about this freshly renovated historic home, that it's hard to know quite where to start. But as it's probably the leading reason visitors flock to this corner of the Dalmatian coast, we'll start with the view. Set high above the Old Town, in the most sought-after part of Dubrovnik, it looks out over that postcard-perfect vista – just as it has for centuries. If its old stone walls could talk, it could tell us tales of this dramatic city, reaching back to the Renaissance. 

Today, the interior has been respectfully brought up to 21st Century expectations, with smart, neutral decor and a mix of contemporary and classical furnishings giving it a stylish, sophisticated look. Bright and comfortable, the living and dining space is a sociable room with incredible views. There's a fully equipped kitchen if you're cooking at home and a wine cellar in the basement, or you can cook in the traditional summer method – outside on the barbecue.

And while the courtyard garden and your private pool are no doubt the stars of the show here, we found ourselves falling in love with the little balcony belonging to the master bedroom on the top floor. We dare you to find a better view of this UNESCO city anywhere. Just a short walk to the nearest pebble beach and a short drive into the city centre, it's a sensational home in an enviable location.

This villa is a private retreat just 750 metres away from Dubrovnik. Enjoy stunning panoramic sea views from this delightful villa, which is spread over five floors so has no shortage of space. There are even two swimming pools, one out on the terrace, and one in the wellness area – there’s also a Jacuzzi and sauna. The billiard room and bar is a great spot for fun, while the alfresco dining area is ideal for family dinners – and your host can arrange for a private chef to whip up a feast.

From the terrace of this beautiful old villa, you can see Lokrum Island floating off the coast of Dubrovnik in the Adriatic Sea. You’re right on the seafront here with nothing between you and the cliffs down to a secret sandy cove (Betina Cave Beach) but a private road. On top of this, it’s just a short drive or leisurely fifteen-minute stroll to the walls of Dubrovnik’s famous Old Town where narrow alleys are home to bars, restaurants and cafes galore.

Though you’d be forgiven for spending all your time at the villa itself. The terrace is home to an inviting swimming pool and a sunken, overflow Jacuzzi where you can soak with a cold drink in hand, looking out over the Adriatic Sea. Dine outdoors on the patio covered by a rustic wooden ceiling and lit by candelabra. Each terracotta-floored terrace is bursting with flowers in pots and the stone walls are draped with botanica making each balcony and outdoor lounge feel like an ancient Venetian’s holiday home.

The highlight inside has to be the conservatory-style lounge and dining room with a wall of glass windows looking out to the sea. In here, stone columns add a sense of grandeur. There’s a pristine swimming pool for cooling off in the heat of the day, a full outdoor kitchen with a wood-fired oven for lunches that last the afternoon, and myriad terraces and patios hidden by palm trees and verdant greenery. Pick your own Mediterranean vegetables from the garden and perhaps enjoy a game of bocce on the court in the sunshine. 

Inside, you can feel the 200-year-old history of this lavish villa, with frescoed ceilings in the bedrooms and white-wash wood keeping things breezy downstairs. As well as several lounges and living rooms for downtime, there’s a dedicated meeting room with a projector if you’re planning a corporate getaway or want to work remotely in style. Though if you want to spend your time here relaxing, there’s a Finnish sauna that’s sure to do the job.

If you want to soak up the history of Dubrovnik, this sixteenth-century townhouse, overlooking terracotta-roofed houses and cobbled streets, could be just what you’re looking for. Located at the heart of Dubrovnik Old Town, you’ll have all the top historical attractions on your doorstep and you’re just a short stroll from Stradun Street for shops, bars, and restaurants. The home’s traditional decor might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the exposed beams, dark wooden furniture, and stone walls certainly suit the historic location. While the house sleeps six, the twin room is very small so is best suited to children or a single guest.

This towering villa sits in an enviable spot in central Dubrovnik. It's around a fifteen-minute walk to the shambling alleyways and historic sights of the famous Old Town, while also being a short stroll from the nearest pebble beach – Betina Cave Beach. But there’s plenty to keep you entertained at the villa itself.

Tiered terraces hang on the hillside, affording fabulous views of Lokrum island, floating out in the crystal Adriatic Sea. Out here, you’ve got a private pool to cool off and, one level up, a sunken Jacuzzi tub for a soothing soak. Dining in the shade of a parasol is a delight with that view to keep the group talking. 

We love the interior, where the light fitting above the dining table looks like an installation in a modern art gallery, and the armchairs could feature in a mid-century museum. Vibrant pictures adorn the walls throughout and the paint-splattered walls of the second living room feel like a work of art in itself. Painting isn’t the only pursuit celebrated in this home – the chrome kitchen could be the canvas for a professional chef and there’s a piano for the maestro of the group in the turret lounge. Bedrooms are sanctuaries, some with access to private balconies, but our favourite has to be the room at the top of the house with its selection of literature for a quiet read.

In the heart of Dubrovnik, this modern apartment is within walking distance from all the action. Just a fifteen-minute stroll from Dubrovnik Old Town and five from Bellevue Beach, it’s a great base to come home to after discovering the many shops, restaurants and landmarks the city has to offer. One of our favourite parts is the terrace with its wonderful sea views, while a separate balcony is also shared between two bedrooms. Desks in each bedroom make working from home easy – and you can pay to use the spa, pool and fitness facilities at a nearby hotel. No wonder it caught our eye.
