Dating back a hundred years, this remarkable villa close to the south coastline of Split is a shining example of how a property's historical character can be preserved in the restoration process.

The home's interior retains an air of grandeur, with antique wooden furnishings, high ceilings and glossy tiled flooring, but there are plenty more modern additions. The bathrooms are ultra-sleek with a couple of large tubs and there's also a gym, sauna and library up on the first floor.

We'd be willing to bet that the swimming pool wasn't there when the home was built in the early twentieth century, but it'll be no less appreciated during the summer months — the same can be said for the Jacuzzi, too. One thing that hasn't changed in the intervening years is just how breathtaking the sea view is from this outdoor space and it makes for a beautiful backdrop as you dine under the pergola.

One thing we really love is the different options that the location offers. Plaža Ježinac sits just around the corner when you fancy a dip in the sea and the Old Town is only twenty minutes away on foot. The forests and walking routes of Marjan Hill are a ten-minute walk away, too.

But whichever you choose, you’ll still enjoy jaw-dropping views of the coast, where the Cetina River meets the Adriatic Sea. Take a splash in the indoor pool area before drying off on one of the many sun loungers to take in those views again. And should you ever manage to part your gaze with the sea, you’re perfectly placed to explore the surrounding region. Discover the historic town of Omiš, one of the most dramatic locations of any town on the Dalmatian coast, located just seven minutes away in the car. It's the perfect backdrop to while away an afternoon before settling down for dinner in one of the old town’s authentic restaurants. This villa is set on Ciovo, a picturesque little island that extends out from the Mediaeval town of Trogir. Ancient and modern blend in seamless harmony here: Trogir is a UNESCO world heritage site, thanks to its impressively preserved Baroque and Renaissance architecture. It’s a beautiful town to wander around, soaking up the history and magic of the place. Meanwhile, no luxury is spared at your villa. The outside is a modernist marvel, with whitewashed blocks forming the four floors of the villa, and a crystalline outdoor pool surrounded by manicured gardens and a sun deck to relax on. 

If one pool wasn’t enough, head down to the basement to find your very own in-house spa. There's a sauna to relax in after a day of activities and a second indoor pool with ambient lighting. 

All six bedrooms have en suites, and the sumptuous main bedroom is bathed in natural light thanks to glass balcony doors, which lead out onto the balcony overlooking the sea. Enjoy breakfast at the table or relax on the deck chair with a book. 

The villa is conveniently located just 25 metres from the sea and a pebble beach. Hire a boat and explore the beauty of the surrounding area. There are plenty of hidden coves, secret beaches, and small islands to find, as well as towns steeped in history. The island is attached to Trogir by a bridge and is just 2 kilometres away by car, while Split is 25 kilometres away.

Our favourite thing about this sleek, modern villa is the view from the swimming pool. Gazing out over the infinity edge, you can see a handful of green islands floating in the sparkling Adriatic Sea. The big terrace out the front is also home to sun loungers, a dining spot and a glorious sunken Jacuzzi. 

The villa itself feels as though glass boxes have been stacked on top of each other, taking full advantage of that fabulous sea view. Slide open the wall-sized glass doors in the living room to melt the barrier between indoors and outdoors and watch the boats drift by from the comfort of the leather sofas. The huge, dine-in kitchen area is more than big enough to handle the bustle of group breakfasts and the whole open-plan area is bathed in sunlight during the day.

Those that want to keep on top of their fitness schedule can make use of the home’s private gym, and soothe sore muscles in the sauna after. Bedrooms are crisp white and blue, made bright by walls of windows. And the main bedroom has its own private balcony.

Location-wise, you’re on the edge of Hvar Town, a 500-metre walk from the centre where harbourside bars and restaurants await.

This beautiful villa is real show-stopper. High ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and a neutral colour palette mean that it’s bright and airy, the perfect space to chill out in when the temperature is rising. Outside you’ll find a gorgeous pool, which you can gaze upon from the balcony – if you can tear your eyes away from the view of the sea, that is. 

You’ll wake up feeling refreshed from a good night’s sleep – the beds are oh so comfortable. Maybe you’ll whip up a breakfast of fresh fruit and local bread with honey, and take it out to the terrace. As you tuck in, you can plan your day – will you laze by the pool and soak up the sunshine all day? Or perhaps you’ll head to the beach? Brodarica beach is a fourteen-minute walk away and is one of many on this stretch of the coast. In the evening, fire up the barbecue and enjoy feasts on the terrace while the sun is setting. 

After a few days spent sunbathing, swimming and sipping wine, you might be rested enough to explore further afield. Šibenik is a beautiful city, one of the oldest on the Adriatic – it’s just eleven minutes away by car. Meander the narrow streets and admire the cathedral – it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
