When it comes to apartment buildings, the penthouse is often seen as the most coveted floor, but those at ground level often have the better deal if there's outdoor space in the equation. Anybody coming to northern Israel to stay in this apartment will surely agree with this by the end of their stay.

Conveniently close to the Achziv National Park and to the heart of Nahariya, you can easily make the most of some of Israel's most beautiful beaches. One such place is Achziv Beach, a cove of golden sand and azure waters, where the little ones can spend hours making sandcastles while the grown-ups can sip on beer and lounge on the beach. During the summer, you might even spot sea turtles who lay their eggs here.

If you’re seeking a practical base in Haifa, look no further. This bright apartment is on the third floor of the building and boasts wonderful views of the city. You can enjoy them from the balcony, which has a small table and chairs – it’s a great spot for alfresco breakfasts. There’s only one bedroom, so at full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space – if you’re hoping for more privacy, we’d recommend a maximum guest count of two. The decor here isn’t the most sleek or modern, but we still think it’s a good shout for those hoping for a comfortable place to rest their heads in the city.

Set just a flip-flop from Netanya’s sweeping sandy shores and the city’s hub, the location of this apartment is spot-on. The pared-back, fuss-free interiors may not suit guests looking for a characterful, lived-in home. But you can’t help but swoon at the vast private terrace commanding sea views. There’s a lot to love about this central Tel Aviv apartment. Let’s start with the location. It’s a two-minute stroll to the lively bazaars and craft vendors of the famous Nahalat Binyamin Street. Twice a week this spot comes to life with a buzzing marketplace. In the surrounding streets of Florentin, you’ll find buzzing hipster cafés, bakeries selling traditional Israeli pastries and a huge selection of bars and restaurants.

Then there’s the outdoor terrace. Shielded from view and lined with lush green ferns, this is the perfect spot for a post-sightseeing tipple on the comfy lounge furniture with the outdoor heater keeping the chill at bay. There’s plenty of room to dine out here too. Glass doors lead to the open living area, adorned with monochrome modern art on the walls. The vintage mint-green fridge and microwave combo in the kitchen adds a touch of quirk.

With velvet and pastel hues aplenty, there’s definitely something intriguing about Pastel Quartz. Located in a restored Bauhaus building on Nachalt Binyamin, you’re within walking distance to a lot of Tel Aviv’s most popular hang-outs, and you’re also pretty lucky with the views from the terrace. Even though it’s a little bare in places, the design is cohesive, and we especially like how each bedroom comes with a different colour scheme.

In Season has that light, bright feel that we love. Influenced by Scandinavian elegance with natural, bohemian textures, it makes for a wonderful escape in Tel Aviv. We also can’t get over the wonderful rooftop – it has several cosy corners, perfect for unwinding after a long day of walking around the city or hanging out at the beach. It’s a short walk from Dizengoff Square, so there’s lots to do in the immediate area too.

The local area is said to be one of Tel Aviv's up and coming areas as the shopping is unrivalled and there's plenty of quality eateries and hang-out spots to lap up around Sarona too.

Nestled between Florentin, Levinsky Market, and Neve Tzedek, this one-bedroom home is in a wonderful location if you’re looking for cool shops, charming restaurants, and bars. While it’s not the biggest home, we love that it feels so personal. Brimming with knick-knacks, turquoise splashes of colour, and eye-catching art, it’s easy to see that Ruthi and Am have put a lot of effort and love into designing this home.

This two-bedroom home brings a lot to the table with its gorgeous views of Tel Aviv’s fast-changing skyline and the transparent wall that adds a luminous feel to the space. The immediate neighbourhood isn’t the most attractive part of the city, but you’re within easy access to both the beach, Carmel Market and some of Allenby Street’s more charming offshoots.

Set in a renovated Bauhaus building, this apartment is a joy. Inside, it’s full of playful and colourful details, with a light-hearted atmosphere. You’ll find no end of funky ornaments and contemporary artwork sitting boldly on brilliant white walls. And that’s not all, there are even Superman robes for you to wrap up in after a shower. A soft and squashy sofa calls for cosying up with a book during downtimes before dinner reservations, while your private balcony is perfect for a barbecue with a glass or two of your favourite tipple in the sunshine. Great for solo travellers or couples searching for a pleasant base, you’re seconds from the leafy Rothschild Boulevard and a five-minute walk to Habima Square. If you fancy swapping the city for the seaside, with just a twenty-minute amble you can be sunning yourself on Banana Beach.

Within five to ten minutes by public transport from the central areas of Tel Aviv (including the beach), this home makes the perfect base for exploring the city. 

Blue Beetle

While it lacks a little in the character department, Sweet Harmony spoils you with a location that’s hard to beat. In less than ten minutes, you can be lying on a sandy beach without a care in the world. And when you’ve had enough of that, you can grab a post-beach bite at the cafes and restaurants along one of the cooler stretches of Allenby Street and its offshoots. Even though the immediate neighbourhood is on the more hectic side (when it comes to traffic), it’s also a lively part of Tel Aviv that’s extremely well-connected to the rest of the city. 

Sweet Harmony

It’s safe to say that Rock & Roll has plenty to offer. Inspired by the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, it’s the kind of home that’s full of personality. The bedrooms don’t quite measure up to the grandeur of the rest of the apartment, but the sweeping city and sea views certainly do. It’s in Sarona, a popular part of Tel Aviv with a mix of high rises and historic buildings, authentic neighbourhood markets and trendy restaurants.
