You’ll be housed in a wonderful Trulli – the quirky conical-roofed homes most often found in Puglia and Brindisi. Beneath its coned roof, the villa is a stylish place to stay. Magnificent vaulted ceilings, original frescoes, and age-old cement tiled floors give you a taste of the region's past while the private roof terrace offers spectacular views out across the Ionian Sea. Accessed via an internal staircase, this is the perfect place to relax come morning, noon or night-time. You’ll want to laze on the sunbed before cooling off under the outdoor shower, barbeque and eat alfresco at the gazebo covered dining table or cosy up together with a glass of wine beneath the stars.

This cluster of Trulli homes is like a fairytale illustration come to life. Each bone-white stone structure is home to a separate bedroom, kitchen and living room, with the outside space connecting them all together. Inside, comfy beds are nestled in archways and circular rooms have bare stone walls for an authentic feel. There’s no shortage of mod-cons though, with flatscreen TVs and desks for remote working if you need.

Really, though, this place was made for outdoor living, making the most of the sunny climes of Italy’s heel. There’s a full outdoor kitchen with a traditional stone bread oven, and myriad places to dine in the sun or shade – the choice is yours. Seats in the shade of ancient olive trees provide a moment’s respite. But the piece de resistance has to be the covered hot tub, surrounded by sun loungers to dry off after.

The location is a boon too, just outside the centre of one of Puglia’s prettiest towns – Locorotondo. A cluster of white medieval churches makes up the historic hilltop centre, where winding cobbled streets are filled with family-run trattoria and slow-food eateries. Alternatively, Lecce's many seafood restaurants are only a short stroll along the cobbled streets. The house is in the centre of the city, with Roman amphitheatres, medieval castles, and grand cathedrals all jostling for space. On warmer days, it's less than a thirty-minute drive to the Mediterranean and many seaside tavernas.

While we wouldn’t recommend cooking a feast in the small kitchen, we love the beachy, homey vibe of this home. And if the cosy interior wasn’t enough, the location definitely steps it up – a quick scenic drive and you’ll be wandering the whitewashed buildings of Ostuni, the famous Puglia town perfect for postcards.

They’re centred around a stunning outside space with a pool, eighty olive trees, and a splendid alfresco dining space – we love the wood-fired pizza oven. We recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay – beautiful Campomarino beach is a seven-minute drive away.

The striking Old Town of Gallipoli is a truly special Puglian peninsula. Linked to the mainland by a 16th-century bridge, crossing over into this historical wonder feels like stepping back in time. If we were being picky, the kitchen area inside feels a touch small compared to the rest of the villa. However, the outdoor pizza oven and barbecue beneath a covered pergola for alfresco dining make up for that.
