There are a lot of things we like about this lodge in the Alpine village of Cortina d'Amprezzo, but we'd be lying if we didn't single out the rather lovely view from the balcony as our standout highlight – from this spot, it's possible to gaze out over the locale's rooftops and dramatically beautiful mountains beyond.

Back inside, the interior design is as rustic as you might imagine, with an abundance of wood in everything from the walls and floors to the furnishings and finishes. A few pieces of artwork and natural decorative items lend a little character, while the horseshoe-shaped kitchen has enough space for cooking up hearty dinners when you're fresh off the slopes.

Ah yes, skiing – there's plenty of opportunity for winter sports here, with lifts up to the slopes lying within walking distance. Even closer, there are restaurants, shops and a museum within the town to explore.

Set in a traditional chalet-style building with a wooden roof and pretty wooden balcony in the Italian Alps, this charming home is ideal for an adventure-packed mountain escape. Decorated in neutral, earthy tones with minimalist but comfortable furniture, the inside of this home has a soothing feel. In the open-plan living-and-kitchen space, vanilla-coloured walls, a charcoal sofa and wooden table come together to make a welcoming space, and under-floor heating keeps things extra cosy. There are two neat, clutter-free bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a modern bathroom with gigantic walk-in shower. From the vast gardens, surrounding vineyards and parkland brimming with fruit, vegetables and flowers to the expansive interiors designed with a neoclassical architecture bursting with elegance, this home is sure to wow anyone who steps foot on its grounds. 

With an emphasis on leisure and relaxation, home highlights include an in-house spa equipped with its own bathroom, shower, sauna, whirlpool hydro massage tub and gym, as well as a second jacuzzi hot tub outside alongside the saltwater swimming pool in the garden. Of course, there's no better place to admire the views than when sunbathing by the pool during the heat of the day or from the patio's hot tub with a glass of local Prosecco in hand as the sun goes down.

Take a stroll in the gardens, where tall trees and plants form a serene setting for strolling amidst the abundance of flora and fauna. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the fish and turtles swimming in the pond. Once you've taken it all in, head back to the Mediterranean conservatory lounge for some shisha and herbal tea. From there, the world is your oyster. Why not book a massage at the spa? Or head out to discover the local town of Vitorio Venito steeping in history. It's safe to say we wouldn't recommend leaving here without going on a wine tour and tastings of one of the local Prosecco vineyards either.

Fresh mountain air flows through this valley in the South Tyrol district, the northernmost region in Italy. It boasts some of the most majestic mountain views in the country – and that’s just one of the reasons we fell in love with this home. 

The first thing you'll notice as you approach is the chalet-like charm, set among a rolling meadow landscape. The apartment is located on the ground floor and has a simple yet, classic interior style – this pared-back style allows the magnificent scenery outside to steal the spotlight. Soft neutral tones are used throughout, giving the space a retreat-like feel. The feeling is further amplified by the on-site amenities like an infrared sauna room and steam room where you can soothe your muscles between adventures. 

During the winter months, skiers and snowboarders can take a seven-minute drive to the slopes at the Reinswald resort to shred some powder. If you're visiting during the warmer seasons, then you can take your pick from outdoor activities including horse riding, cycling, and golf, all with the epic alpine backdrops. And, with the town of Sarnthein just seven minutes away by car, you can make a splash in the outdoor swimming pool and then refuel with some hearty fare from one of the local restaurants.

Sitting right in the middle of the Alpine town of Cortina D'Amprezzo, this recently refurbished apartment has a rather suave style that piqued our interest, not to mention some pretty views of the local town and the surrounding mountainsides that you can enjoy from the small terrace. We won't lie, we've seen bigger kitchens and bedrooms, but we'd be willing to overlook this, particularly as the lifts to both Tofana and Faloria ski slopes lie so close to the front door. Oh, and did we mention that there's a sauna to warm up in afterwards? Well, there is.
