There are a lot of things we like about this lodge in the Alpine village of Cortina d'Amprezzo, but we'd be lying if we didn't single out the rather lovely view from the balcony as our standout highlight – from this spot, it's possible to gaze out over the locale's rooftops and dramatically beautiful mountains beyond.

Back inside, the interior design is as rustic as you might imagine, with an abundance of wood in everything from the walls and floors to the furnishings and finishes. A few pieces of artwork and natural decorative items lend a little character, while the horseshoe-shaped kitchen has enough space for cooking up hearty dinners when you're fresh off the slopes.

Ah yes, skiing – there's plenty of opportunity for winter sports here, with lifts up to the slopes lying within walking distance. Even closer, there are restaurants, shops and a museum within the town to explore.

As soon as you approach this lovely home's building, you're greeted with a beautiful pond with a fountain and colourful fish – we felt an air of calm straight away. The garden has an even bigger pond – the shared swimming pool is perfect for cooling off in the Italian heat or simply relax with a book on the lounger.

Inside the apartment, there are characterful exposed beams and terracotta tiled floors. Another stand-out feature of this home is the main bathroom which has Swarovski crystals set in the furniture and on the washbasin – we do love a bit of bling.

Situated a few steps from Spiaggia D'oro and the centre of Desenzano del Garda, it has a fabulous location. If you have kids with you, there's a playground 50 metres away too.

Housed in an elegant building in the Piazza Duomo in Desenzano del Garda, this home has a fabulous setting. The apartment is located just 50 metres from Lake Garda and the many shops, bars and restaurants. It's just 150 metres from one of the lake's sandy beaches too.

Back at this apartment, relax on the balcony off the main bedroom with a glass of wine. Inside, we love the feature ornate fireplace in the open plan living space, but the real highlight here is the beautiful view of the city's cathedral from the main bedroom window (this room also has vibrant botanical wallpaper).

The vista of red-roofed houses leading to the shores of Lake Garda takes pride of place as if it’s a work of art hanging on the wall. Lightwood floors and white walls keep things feeling bright and the glass dining table sits in a particularly sunny corner, surrounded by windows. There’s plenty of room to prep meals in the open kitchen, thanks to a wooden breakfast bar. A little, unfurnished balcony provides a space to step out and breathe in the fresh, lake air.

We couldn’t think of a better spot to admire the views across Lake Garda than from the garden of this home. There’s a private pool, a jacuzzi and a perfectly positioned terrace – a sweet setting for sunset drinks. Inside, there are three self-contained apartments, making it the ideal base for groups looking to relax and enjoy quality time together. You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just 5 kilometres to the nearest town of Salò where you’ll find the beach along with a great selection of restaurants and shops.

The top-floor main suite is one of our favourites – we can't resist the wooden ceilings or that stone bathtub – but the sun-kissed terrace and private pool are close seconds. Day trips are easy with Treviso and Padova within driving distance, but if you'd prefer to stay closer to home, Asolo is a twenty-minute walk away and has artisan shops and restaurants.
