There are a lot of things we like about this lodge in the Alpine village of Cortina d'Amprezzo, but we'd be lying if we didn't single out the rather lovely view from the balcony as our standout highlight – from this spot, it's possible to gaze out over the locale's rooftops and dramatically beautiful mountains beyond.

Back inside, the interior design is as rustic as you might imagine, with an abundance of wood in everything from the walls and floors to the furnishings and finishes. A few pieces of artwork and natural decorative items lend a little character, while the horseshoe-shaped kitchen has enough space for cooking up hearty dinners when you're fresh off the slopes.

Ah yes, skiing – there's plenty of opportunity for winter sports here, with lifts up to the slopes lying within walking distance. Even closer, there are restaurants, shops and a museum within the town to explore.

Just an hour's drive from Venice, this hilltop villa offers panoramic countryside views. While the traditional decor and antique furniture may not be to everyone's tastes, we think the interiors are charming in their own right. But with three floors and steep steps here, it will be difficult for guests who struggle with stairs. The top-floor main suite is one of our favourites – we can't resist the wooden ceilings or that stone bathtub – but the sun-kissed terrace and private pool are close seconds. Day trips are easy with Treviso and Padova within driving distance, but if you'd prefer to stay closer to home, Asolo is a twenty-minute walk away and has artisan shops and restaurants.

Set in a traditional chalet-style building with a wooden roof and pretty wooden balcony in the Italian Alps, this charming home is ideal for an adventure-packed mountain escape. Decorated in neutral, earthy tones with minimalist but comfortable furniture, the inside of this home has a soothing feel. In the open-plan living-and-kitchen space, vanilla-coloured walls, a charcoal sofa and wooden table come together to make a welcoming space, and under-floor heating keeps things extra cosy. There are two neat, clutter-free bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a modern bathroom with gigantic walk-in shower. The chalet has a number of excellent shared amenities, including a games room – with a table tennis table and a table football table – a fitness room, a sauna, steam room and relaxation room, plus plenty of storage for bikes in the summer and skis in the winter. But the real draw here is the views. Out in the garden, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping, jaw-dropping views of the Alps.

Sitting high on a lush green hillside overlooking the picturesque town of Asolo, this historic villa offers panoramic views of the valley and a striking fortress. Dating back to Medieval times, the town is home to artisan shops selling local crafts. When it's time for lunch, head to one of the restaurants or trattorias to enjoy some traditional Italian dishes or simply admire the original architecture of ancient buildings like the Rocca Fortress and Villa di Maser.

After a day of soaking up the area's rich history and culture, return home to unwind for the evening. A barbecue means you can enjoy laid-back, alfresco feats on the patio, which are especially magical at night. Nestled in Cecina village, where rolling green hills form an enviable backdrop, this villa lies only minutes from the famous Lake Garda. But it isn't all about location, even though we love how quickly you can walk to a restaurant from here. With most of the rooms spilling out onto large terraces, where you can appreciate the landscape from poolside or under vine-covered pergolas whilst having an alfresco breakfast, it feels like a celebration of the beautiful untamed surroundings. Throw in the typical architecture, rustic decor – though it might not be to everyone's taste – and ample space and we had to add it to our collection.

Just a five-minute walk from Brenzone’s colourful centre, this bright, modern apartment enjoys easy access to local shops, cafes and restaurants, while maintaining a real sense of serenity. Wake up in the fresh white bedroom with its traditional brick hearth, then head out to explore the sights. With Lake Garda’s eastern shore less than a five-minute walk away, enjoy the many walking and cycling trails that surround it or take a boat trip to experience the lake’s beauty up close. After a day of sightseeing, come home to watch the sunset over Monte Baldo from the shared garden before sitting down to an aperitivo and a romantic meal on the balcony.

The first thing you'll notice as you approach is the chalet-like charm, set among a rolling meadow landscape. The apartment is located on the ground floor and has a simple yet, classic interior style – this pared-back style allows the magnificent scenery outside to steal the spotlight. Soft neutral tones are used throughout, giving the space a retreat-like feel. The feeling is further amplified by the on-site amenities like an infrared sauna room and steam room where you can soothe your muscles between adventures. 

During the winter months, skiers and snowboarders can take a seven-minute drive to the slopes at the Reinswald resort to shred some powder. If you're visiting during the warmer seasons, then you can take your pick from outdoor activities including horse riding, cycling, and golf, all with the epic alpine backdrops. And, with the town of Sarnthein just seven minutes away by car, you can make a splash in the outdoor swimming pool and then refuel with some hearty fare from one of the local restaurants.

This lakeside home caught our eye for its panoramic views of Lake Garda. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, tucking into an alfresco meal, or relaxing in the living area, you’ll be able to admire the water vistas. And with each bedroom also boasting lake views – including the family room which has a double bed and a bunk bed – you’ll be spoilt for choice. Outdoor living is easy here, thanks to the summer kitchen and barbecue, and there’s a ping pong table to keep the kids entertained while you cook. Location-wise, you’re in the village of Castelletto di Brenzone, with walking and cycling routes on your doorstep, a lakeside beach just 600 metres away, and water sports aplenty nearby.

Sitting right in the middle of the Alpine town of Cortina D'Amprezzo, this recently refurbished apartment has a rather suave style that piqued our interest, not to mention some pretty views of the local town and the surrounding mountainsides that you can enjoy from the small terrace. We won't lie, we've seen bigger kitchens and bedrooms, but we'd be willing to overlook this, particularly as the lifts to both Tofana and Faloria ski slopes lie so close to the front door. Oh, and did we mention that there's a sauna to warm up in afterwards? Well, there is.

This Lake Garda villa couldn't get closer to the water if it tried. Boasting a private swimming dock and boat mooring (complete with a canoe for exploring), and gently sloping waters for a paddle, it's perfect for guests looking to make the most of the priceless lake setting. Granted, the interiors may feel a little dated in places for some, but we'll excuse that for the monumental views, and the largest bedroom suite sleeping four is handy for a small family sharing. When you're ready to sample Lake Garda life, you're just a short walk from Bogliaco for an easy bite to eat and a short drive from the vibrant town of Toscolano-Maderno.

From this Lake Garda home, you’ll have direct access to the waterfront where you can set sail on a boat trip or simply sit back and admire the idyllic views.
