Uitgeest Lake is just a few steps away, so whether you're a novice just learning to sail or an expert with your own boat, you can spend plenty of time on the water. It's also a haven for surfers, where you can practice your board skills before enjoying a waterside picnic. And, if you're bringing a bike, you can do as the Dutch do and hop on to explore the peaceful countryside and canals. 

Marina Marvel

Perched on the banks of the Markermeer, this eco-friendly holiday resort is a sweet retreat in the great outdoors. Between cycling across the rolling fields, sailing along the steady water and strolling through the countryside, you'll never be short on adventures in the fresh air. Add in the playground ideal for little ones, on-site bicycle rentals and idyllic views and we think it's a winner. 

Better still, you can enjoy a cosy stay without leaving a big carbon footprint. There's no gas hook-up here – solar panels power the whole home – and it's a car-free resort, encouraging you to explore your surroundings on foot. 

After a wander, chill out in the stylish living room or take it easy and relax on the patio, instead. If it were up to us, we'd spend every evening out there, sipping cocktails and admiring the Netherlands sunset. 

Fancy a change of pace? Head to Hoorn, a quintessential Dutch town only 12km away. There you'll find independent boutiques, antique stores and Saturday market stalls perfect for browsing and plenty of restaurants to try when you grow peckish. We think it's an excellent option for a day trip. 

Markermeer Meadows

Treat your favourite people to a fantastic trip to North Holland with a stay at this wonderful home. Situated on a holiday park with a great range of amenities, it's the perfect place to make some memories together with your family or friends.

The lodge itself is surprisingly roomy – find an open-plan living space which faces out onto the intimate garden terrace. Surrounded by colourful flowers and greenery, the tables under the veranda are an idyllic spot to watch the world go by. We suggest sharing meals there or just sitting in the evenings with snacks and drinks.

If you wanted to explore further than the lodge and the beach, the local area is blessed with scenic walking trails. Get your hiking boots on and discover the beautiful scenery, draped in vibrant colours and offering spectacular views.

Harvest Bloom

This home on the Dutch island of Texel is a haven for larger groups. Just a stone's throw away from the beach, it's ideal for families or friends who want to unwind and spend some quality time together. 

The eco-friendly villa is actually composed of two homes joined together, meaning everyone can enjoy some independence. You'll love the tranquil interior, with a soothing colour scheme and huge windows that flood the space with natural light. There's also a garden and patio, so you can sip a cool drink in the sunshine while the kids play on the lawn. And, for the ultimate relaxation, there's even a sauna where you can sweat out your stresses. 

A ten-minute walk will bring you down to the shoreline of De Koog Beach, where you can stroll along the sand or even take a dip in the sea on warm days. Nature lovers will be in heaven, as the Ecomare aquarium is a ten-minute drive away, as is Texel's zoo, and there are plenty of spots for birdwatching. And, you can't beat exploring by bike – there is over 140km of cycle paths guiding you through this unique island. 

Texel Retreat

Whether you're planning to relax or explore the Koggenland region, this home is a great pick. It's ideal for guests who want to spend some quality time with their loved ones – you're guaranteed to make some lasting memories here. 

The interior is a modern space with clean lines and plenty of natural light flooding in through the large windows. The whole family will love settling down around the dining table for a delicious homemade meal cooked in the smart kitchen. Or, if you'd prefer someone else does the cooking, there's an on-site restaurant where you can indulge. And, on warm days, the kids can make a splash in the shared swimming pool while you while away the hours relaxing on the terrace with a good book. 

Your host can help you to book canoes, power boats, and electric scooters, so you can zip around the countryside and waterways. Or, do as the Dutch do and hop on your bike to visit Lake IJssel, where you can try some watersports or visit one of the little beaches. And, you can also drive into the city of Hoorn in around fifteen minutes, to visit its pretty harbour and browse the boutiques. 

Fun O'Clock 

Situated within a holiday resort close to the northern coastline of Texel, this bungalow might be on the humble side, but the impressive collection of shared amenities more than makes up for it.

When we say humble, we don't mean to say that there's absolutely nothing to like about the home. The floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors ensure that there's a bountiful amount of natural light, while the furnishings are all stylish enough. In addition, the kitchen, too, is sleek, if a little limited in size and scope. Having a private terrace with seating will also help you make the most of warm afternoons, as well.

However, we must get around to the shared facilities. As well as a pair of swimming pools, guests can while away their afternoons on the golf course or – if they're a little younger – on the play equipment, before reconvening for dinner in one of the trio of eateries.

To top it all off, there are plenty of attractions outside the resort as well. The beach that runs around the north and west sides of the island can be reached in as little as eight minutes' walk or you can stroll for an hour through the Texel Dunes National Park to reach the western coastline. De Schorren nature reserve takes a similar amount of time to reach in the opposite direction, too.

Tulips in Bloom

Step into this dreamy home on the Dutch isle of Texel and immerse yourself in island life. The chirps of birds, the crispness of the air, endless walking trails, and the North Sea at just a ten-minute walk away. For nature lovers, this is a slice of heaven.

When you want to get out and explore, one of the best ways to do so is by bike. You can hire bicycles and electric bikes from the friendly reception team – there are over 140km of tranquil cycling lanes to explore, stopping off at quaint cafes along the way. 

The vibrant town of De Koog is a must-see while you're here, and at just fifteen minutes by foot, getting to know this vibrant port town is easy. Pop into boutique shops, try out the local food, and take advantage of the town's buzzing nightlife. 

Cast a Light

Just a stone's throw away from the beach, this serene apartment is the ideal place for a relaxing trip away. Press pause on everyday life and spend some quality time with your partner, or enjoy some peace and quiet a wonderful solo holiday. 

The cosy apartment is warm and welcoming, with rich brown tones and plenty of natural wood. When the sun is shining, you can make full use of the patio and gaze out at the pretty views as you sip a glass of wine and breathe in the fresh sea air. And, when you need a bite to eat, there's a little kitchen area where you can whip up some tasty snacks or light dishes. 

A short stroll will bring you down to Callantsoog Strand, a long, sandy stretch of beach where you can enjoy walks and swimming. When you want to explore further afield, simply do as the Dutch do and hop on your bike to discover charming villages and plenty of canals. And, nature fans can take a quick drive over to the Texel ferry port, and explore the island's national park and sand dunes. 

The Wildflowers

Located in Zandvoort, renowned for its sandy beaches and F1 circuit, this two-storey family home will certainly have you racing around with all of the facilities on offer here. Set in a resort, you'll have access to an impressive array of activities fit for children and adults alike – from the indoor pool and petting farm to the hiking and cycling paths, shops and restaurants. 

Plus, you're just a ten-minute wander from the beach, where you can take up surfing, sailing or simply just lie back and relax. Whether you're off exploring or hanging out at home, it's a perfectly practical pad to reconnect with extended family and friends with plenty to keep you actively engaged. 

Back inside, you'll find an appealing apartment with polished wood floors, white-painted brick walls and an open-hearth fireplace to keep you warm on chillier evenings. We particularly love the turquoise colour palette, especially in the three double bedrooms, creating a calm and comfortable space to rest. 

But, the star of the show is the large outdoor terrace complete with seating and a slatted fence for added privacy. Sprawl out on the lawn and play group games basking in the sunshine, or perhaps you'll want to discover Zandvoort's charming town centre, no more than twenty minutes on foot from your front door. 

Touch Base

Enjoy a stay at this beautifully renovated vintage home, situated in a peaceful area with easy access to a sandy beach. This charming residence used to be the local school headmaster’s residence during the 1960s – now fully updated and featuring all the modern comforts to make your time here truly restful, it is a perfect base for a family or a group of friends seeking a tranquil seaside retreat. 

You’ll be welcomed by a lovely and bright open-plan kitchen and dining room, with gorgeous wood beams on the ceiling. This is a great space to enjoy communal meals in the company of your loved ones. Downstairs you’ll find a large sitting room with comfy sofas and a warming wood burner for added cosiness should a chillier evening catch you by surprise. Settle in for movie nights or evenings of wine and conversation. 

Outside the lush garden awaits you – you’ll have full privacy here, and with the added benefit of comfy garden furniture and a barbecue, you’ll no doubt enjoy outdoor feasts and drinks under the stars on those balmy summer nights. 

At the end of the day retreat to the plush bedrooms for a night of restful sleep – you’ll have a choice of three comfy rooms, including one featuring a bunk bed, which will no doubt be a hit with the kids. 

The surrounding area offers plenty of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy. Callantsoog is one of the oldest and most beautiful seaside resorts in the country, and you'll find plenty of picturesque hiking and cycling trails around. Why not hire a bike and go exploring or take a drive to the historical towns of Schagen, Alkmaar and Hoorn, all located just a stone's throw away.
