For a trip away from home, this entirely modern holiday pad is right on the money. Grab the kids and get ready for a time filled with beach days, swimming, tennis, sailing – we could go on. You could even cross the border into Belgium and spend a day in medieval Antwerp, with its impressive cathedral and café-lined cobbled streets. Back at the house, head inside and light the gas fireplace for an inviting warmth or take things outside onto the deck. There’s a barbecue just waiting to be fired up for a family meal, but the jetty is our favourite spot. Leave the kids in front of the television while you watch the water and enjoy a glass of wine to round up a fun-filled day. Proost.

This modern cabin sits right next to a lovely lake within a holiday complex of similar homes. Sleek design and plenty of space mean you won’t feel confined here. Each contemporary cabin is spaced out to offer a little privacy and enjoys a slice of garden by the water. The large windows of the living area look out on verdant lawns running down to the edge of the lake, where a wooden deck by the water is set up with sun loungers. A covered outdoor area is ideal for sheltered, alfresco dining. Inside neutral shades and clean lines bring a sense of calm and tranquillity. This home makes for an easy and convenient place for a family holiday in this tranquil part of the world. There are beaches a short drive away (1.5km) and plenty of leisure activities to fill your holiday days.

Known for its beaches and seafood caught straight from the North Sea, Zeeland shines a light on another side of the Netherlands. It's packed with outdoor activities, from windsurfing and sailing to cycling, and you'll be perfectly placed to enjoy it all. This cosy cabin is sandwiched between a lake and the ocean, set in a dedicated holiday resort. Days can either be spent exploring the picturesque coastline or with a book on the lake's jetty. On your return, an oasis of muted colours greets you. The open-plan living space has two clear sections: in one corner, an L-shaped sofa faces floor-to-ceiling windows and is warmed by a towering white fireplace, while in the other, a kitchenette and dining room table are on hand when you don't feel like heading into town. Bedrooms are equally minimalist, meaning there will be no fights for who sleeps where, with a choice of two double beds and calming cream colours.

Speaking of, enjoy a cup of coffee each morning on the terrace where you can soak up the fresh sea air. Fans of watersports will be right at home here, as you can try sailing and diving lessons in Wemeldinge, but you might be equally happy to unwind on the town's beach. Dine out at one of the local seafood restaurants – we've heard that Zeeland's oysters are to die for – or rustle up a home-cooked meal in your home's fully-equipped kitchen. As night falls, rest your feet on the plush corner sofa in front of the television, and make plans for another day in this charming destination.

If you're heading to this part of Holland we can safely assume you enjoy the water. Right on the coast and just 1.5 kilometres from Wemeldinge Beach, it's part of a holiday park that's all about getting outside and enjoying the water. Bring your bikes and explore this part of the world at your own pace.

Inside, this home is modern and comfortable, with plenty of room for a family. A sociable, open-plan living room is fitted with a contemporary kitchen and you can choose to eat indoors or outside on the covered part of the terrace. But the real star of the show is the home's spacious deck overlooking the park's lake. Complete with comfy outdoor sofas and an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off those feet, it's the perfect spot for evening drinks.

Sandwiched between a lake and the ocean, this home is a chic option within a holiday resort. From the outside, the grey panelled walls and floor-to-ceiling windows look much like the rest of the camp, but step inside to find a surprisingly modern aesthetic. Wooden floorboards and arched ceilings add a sense of space to the living area, while muted tones are broken up with a few statement pieces, from the towering slate fireplace to the leafy plotted plant. The two bedrooms contrast light and dark, with a sunshine-yellow double and a navy-blue twin. Step outside to truly make the most of your stay, whether you're taking part in one of the many outdoor activities or looking to chill out by the lake. An alfresco sofa set is found on a raised platform, and glasses of wine are made all the more special with the background music of a babbling stream.

Enjoy your morning coffee on the sunny waterside deck, then go out and explore the sights. The old village of Wemeldinge with its wonderful windmills is just a ten-minute walk away while the city of Goes is ten-minutes away by car. Wemeldinge Beach is also just a five-minute drive away, offering plenty of opportunities for sailing, fishing, horseback riding and sunning yourself on its sandy shores. After a day of activities, come back home for an al fresco meal on the terrace before curling up on the couch by the fire.

Surprisingly spacious inside, it’s distinguished from its neighbours by its fresh modern palette of dusky pinks and pebble greys. With two bedrooms, a terrace and a community feel to the resort, it’s a great option for a family holiday. Spend your days here exploring the distinctive flat landscapes of Zeeland by bike, roaming the nearby sandy beaches, fishing, and splashing about on boats in the marina. With restaurants, bars and shops all within walking distance, there’s no need to use the car during your stay – but if you do fancy a drive, the seaside town of Goes is just fifteen-minutes away, with its medieval harbour and boutique shops.

Nestled in the heart of Rotterdam, this contemporary pad is an ideal base whether you’re in the city for business or leisure. Sure, you’ll need to climb two sets of steep, narrow stairs to reach the apartment, but you’ll see the effort was worth it as soon as you step through the door. We love the private balcony – just the spot for morning coffee before a day of sightseeing. Locally, walk to the Euromast for the best views the city has to offer or hop on a water taxi to check out the cube houses and Market Hall, which is sure to get your tastebuds tingling.

The fireplace beckons you on colder evenings and creates a romantic atmosphere –  perfect for trying Belgian beer. Having the kitchen in the open-plan living space may dissuade you from experimenting with anything pungent, but at least you can keep the designated cook company as they prepare dinner. From your doorstep, you're just a short stroll from historic sites, restaurants and bars, while the River Leie is only five minutes away.

With such quaint and historic surroundings, this 17th-century terraced brick apartment aims to keep things tranquil and to let Lille do the talking. Explore this medieval principality - that once encompassed parts of northern France, as well as Dutch and Belgian provinces - from your centrally-located home.

Conveniently located right in the centre of Brussels, you'll be just an eight-minute walk away from the Palace of Justice and only fifteen minutes on foot from the Place Royale and Church de Notre Dame de la Chapelle. For days when you don't feel like cooking there is a large choice of local restaurants waiting to be discovered. Head towards Rue Dejoncker (150 metres away) and you'll have an array of bistros, pubs, and restaurants at your fingertips.

Spend your mornings exploring the city – the Royal Palace of Brussels is a twenty-minute walk away, while the Halle Gate museum is reached in just ten. And when you’re ready for a break, we recommend pausing for a waffle and a coffee by the bustling Grand-Place.

There's nothing run of the mill about this unique apartment, set in a period building overlooking the pretty Place Stephanie. It's on the top floor, with plenty of stairs to contend with, but we guarantee the climb is well worth it. Spacious and stylish, with a few quirky features that make it stand out from the crowd, it's been fully renovated to create a modern home in the historic city centre.

The living space is open-plan, keeping everything sociable during your stay, and there's a comfy sofa area, a dining table for six and a really well-equipped kitchen. With a double-height space above the dining area, lit by skylights, and stairs up to a loft level, it's every bit the smart city pad. And yes, that is the front end of a 1950s Cadillac on the wall. Why not?

The bedrooms and bathrooms are all immaculate, and some come with impressive views. But our favourite spot has to be the secret terrace, accessed through the fourth bedroom at the top of the building. It's such a rare treat to get a bit of outdoor space in this central location, we bet you'll be sneaking out here to gaze across the rooftops with a glass of wine at every opportunity.

Famous for its Louise quarter, this area is much sought-after, with great shopping and entertainment nearby. It's just an eight-minute walk to the Palace of Justice and fifteen to the Place Royale.
