Promising Portuguese perfection, this captivating casa boasts mesmerising views of the surrounding landscape, a private pool, lounging, barbecuing and alfresco dining areas and an outdoor shower – and that’s all before even stepping inside. Featuring a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious living room – think cool tiled floors, whitewashed walls adorned with local artwork and a wood burning fireplace –, a separate dining room and four en-suite bedrooms, this fabulous family home really does have it all. 

You’ll love flinging the doors of the master bedroom open and watching the sun rise from the east, making your morning coffee or a glass or two of fresh orange juice made with fruit picked from the garden and lazing on sun loungers before cooling off with a refreshing dip in your private pool. Rinse off under the outdoor shower, barbecue to your heart’s content and dine alfresco on the terrace – which showcases local Santa Catarina tiles to stunning effect – before finding a rattan sofa or one of the comfortable chairs around either the pepper or the palm tree with your name on it. Watch out for sunset from the master bedroom’s west facing balcony or head to the orchard and this home’s hidden sundowner spot – perfect for a little alone time with your loved one. At chillier times of year, you’ll want to get the gang together around the granite dining table for dinner before cozying up by the fire in the living room and hosting a movie night.

As if all that wasn’t enough, this ravishing retreat is situated only minutes away from bustling market towns and the renowned sandy beaches of this unspoiled area. Your nearest town is Sao Bras with its supermarkets and Saturday market, while pretty Loule with its daily covered market is only fifteen-minutes away, as is our favourite beach at Fuseta.

Perched on the outskirts of São Brás, this home wowed us with its dreamy outdoor spaces and stunning views of the Algarve. There are plenty of communal spots for sunbathing here – our favourite is the secret ‘sundowner’ corner in the orchard – but guests staying in the first-floor bedroom will have even more choice thanks to two adjoining terraces on both sides of the house. In terms of location, this place is slightly out of the way but you drive to the beach in just fifteen minutes so we’d call that a result.

A vast flower-filled garden adds to the sense of seclusion, as does the 150-metre-long driveway. That said, you’re only a five-minute drive from Estoi, and you can drive to a number of beaches on the Algarve in twenty-five minutes. A great choice for families, this home comes with all the amenities you might need, so you can focus on relaxing. There’s even a pétanque court and a games room, so there’s no chance of boredom.

To honour the beauty of the natural surroundings, the garden has been landscaped by Lisbon-based Sigmetum so the wild seeds can grow to continually mirror the untamed beauty of Algarve.

But this home isn’t just beautiful – even though it is exceptionally so – it is no more than a twenty minute drive from some of the most breathtaking beaches, and even closer to world class golf courses. Spend the day in the sea or on the green and when you need a supply run, find stores and restaurants only five minutes away in Santa Barbara de Nexe.

Back home, we suggest barefoot explorations of every room so you can feel the cool concrete under your feet as you admire the textures and shades of the space. From the dining table, as you nurse a cup of coffee, you can watch the sun filter in through the window and cast geometric shadows across the room.

When the day starts to warm, access the pool via either of the steps and enjoy the bite of cool water against hot skin. To warm back up, you can head onto the rooftop terrace to soak up the Portuguese sun with a good vintage of wine.

In the pleasant market town of Loulé, this apartment is ideal for a family seeking an authentic Algarve escape. The patio was the first thing that caught our eye – with its barbecue, it's perfect for alfresco meals in the shade. Talking of eating, there's also the well-equipped kitchen, and there's plenty of eateries within walking distance too. At capacity, two guests will be using the living area's sofa bed, so space might be a little tight. Luckily, Loulé offers plenty of reasons to be out exploring, and you can take a bus directly to the coast in less than an hour.

Just about a kilometre from the nearest sandy beach of Praia do Cavalo Preto, you will find this striking holiday villa in the quintessential Portuguese town of Quarteira. 

We love how this home brings the outside in and, indeed, the inside out – thanks in part to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the living spaces with light and provide direct access to the garden and its outdoor kitchen with dining table, laid-back seating area, and shaded terraces that are perfect for getting out of the sun and into a good book. 

In the summer months in particular, the carefully designed exterior spaces of the property are all about comfortable outdoor living – and we think you'll be amazed and just how much time you can spend outside when you have all the facilities you could need (not to mention that glorious Portuguese sun blazing triumphantly overhead). 

One of the best bits of this home has got to be that swimming pool. Tiled in a myriad of tiny mosaic tiles, the shades of which span from light turquoise to deep teal and so emulate the colours of the glistening Meditteranean Sea, and offering steps down into its refreshing waters, we think the prospect of a dip is simply too good to resist. Slide into the pool for the perfect morning wake-up call, before drying off in the sun and rejoining everyone else for breakfast to start the day off the right way. 

Does today feel like a beach day? Or perhaps you'd rather amble into Quarteira or the other small towns that dot the hills here to check out some of the cafés, restaurants, and shops. Golfers, rejoice! The fabulous clubs of Val de Lobo, Vilamoura, and Quinto do Lago are just around 5 kilometres away, so you can look forward to teeing off on some of the finest courses the Algarve has to offer. Those with a hankering for unspoilt nature are in luck too, as the Parque Natura da Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is closeby and just waiting to be explored.

Equipped with an array of gadgetry that would give Goldfinger a run for his money, the quirky kitchen boasts countertop grilling stations on a central circular island that looks as though it was lifted straight out of a space station. There is also a funky corner booth that's perfect for sitting down with a cup of coffee and the morning paper. 

Step outside and you'll find a huge garden centred around a stunning swimming pool, given an extra layer of grandeur courtesy of the pillars that surround it on three sides and around which the house wraps itself. With plenty of shaded seating areas as well as sun loungers and an authentic wood-fired churrasco, the garden provides the perfect place to relax and unwind – until it's time to entertain, party, and socialise. It's giving us major 1970s Palm Springs vibes, and we can just imagine the scene being immortalised in a Slim Adams print. 

In a family-friendly neighbourhood by the sea, the home is located 900 metres from the sandy beach of Praia do Cavalo Preto sand beach and a kilometre from the fantastically golden sands of Forte Novo. In the local area, you will have your pick of restaurants serving everything from traditional chicken piri-piri and other regional specialties made with fresh local produce, to Asian fusion, and seafood pulled from the waters around the town.

We love the way this home is perfectly private - super spacious and all within its own pristinely manicured grounds - but equally, it’s really well connected with everything going on beyond its gates. Quinta do Lago’s best–loved golf courses are perched just minutes away, with Vale do Lobo’s bars, spas and restaurants a justly short distance from the villa. So, if you do manage to peel yourself away from your exclusive paradise, you’ll never be short of things to see and do.

The inside of this home is entirely unique – a real fusion of old and new with a curation of decorative artsy pieces and warming touches dotted from here to there. No two rooms have the same look or feel, making for an extraordinary place to enjoy the Algarve in all its glory. We’re particularly fond of the cosy living space that leads out onto the terrace – it’s just so inviting! But on the whole, the sparkliest jewel in the crown here has to be the pool.

We adore the vibrant bougainvillea that cascades down the walls. For those who love to entertain, there's a barbecue, heritage-style outdoor kitchen and a fire pit, so you can unwind into the evening.

This home is really primed for fun – watch a favourite film or play some pool with your family or friends in the cinema and games room – there's a little bar here too. In the living space, you'll find glossy cream floor tiles and cosy throws to snuggle up with in front of the antique-style fireplace. All bedrooms have fine linen, plush velvet, and luxurious en-suites – we particularly love the bedroom with the zebra print wallpaper.

Situated in tranquil, family-friendly Almancil, there's an excellent gourmet restaurant and many amenities just over 300 metres away. You'll find shops a short drive from this home, too. There are some amazing golf courses nearby, including one of the most famous – Vale de Lobo (2 kilometres away) – which British golfer Henry Cotton designed. Praia do Vale do Lobo beach, too, is 4 kilometres from the villa – it's ideal for those who love unspoilt beaches.

The outdoor areas of this home are something special – we love the gorgeous private pool with its stylish Roman steps, where you can float all afternoon with a cocktail in hand – plus the balcony where you can gaze out at the views of the lush and leafy trees around you. Set eight kilometres inland from Ancao Beach, this home is within walking distance of lakeside restaurants and watersports in Encosta do Lago. For your downtime, there's a palm tree-lined garden and a poolside dining table. Though the main bedroom boasts its own balcony, those with reduced mobility will benefit from ground-floor bedrooms, en-suites, and direct access to the terrace. Fancy a round? An architect-designed golf course sits about half an hour away by car. Or Faro offers a worthwhile day trip, eighteen kilometres from here.
