It’s in a wonderfully central location close to many of the city’s most popular sights, including the Sé do Porto, which you can walk to in less than thirty minutes. For further afield attractions, you can hop on the metro at Heroísmo station, a 140-metre walk away. The apartment is close to restaurants and cafes, as well as some excellent pastry shops – you’ll never be too far from your next pastel de nata. We love the simplicity of this attractive home, with its petite balcony and open-plan living and dining space. It’s a great choice for a large group.

Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

There are plenty of wine cellars offering tours and tastings, such as Fonseca Port Wine Cellars and Caves Cálem within a short walk. For a bird's eye view of the city, head to the nearby Gaia Cable Car, or the stunning Porto Cathedral is a quick drive away.

We could spend hours with a book in the armchair, taking in the sea air as the day grows to a peak. But of course, this central location leaves much to be explored. You can wander along the riverfront’s picturesque fishing neighbourhoods, hopping on the 1930s tram that runs to Foz. Or, board on a boat that will take you to the famous terraced Douro vineyards to sample Vinho Verde and Port. You’ll be walking distance from beautiful historic buildings, located in one of the quietest streets of Ribeira, and only a thirteen-minute walk from São Bento Railway Station – which will connect you all over the city.

Along the charming cobbled streets of Porto’s Baixa neighbourhood sits Rustic Tawny, a small but beautifully curated studio apartment. Boasting pastoral architectural features in combination with minimalist interiors, we were not only impressed with the sleek look but more importantly, the comfort provided. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

Rustic Tawny

Relax on your private, spacious balcony with a glass of Port when you stay at this stylish home in Porto. We love the garden views from here. Inside, lots of glazing allows light to flood in. The chic living space has warm wooden floors and mid-century style furniture. Rustle up a Porto staple, the substantial francesinha sandwich in the modern kitchen. Or there are plenty of restaurants and cafes on your doorstep if you don't fancy cooking. 

There are many attractions nearby too. Head to Livraria Lello, one of the world's most beautiful bookstores, under a fifteen-minute stroll away. Porto Cathedral and Bolhão Market are both a twenty-five-minute walk. Or, lovers of sculpture can visit the Soares dos Reis National Museum, eight minutes on foot.

Ideally suited for a romantic break for two or a single traveller, there’s a cosy nook for your morning breakfast and a well-kitted-out kitchen area for rustling up a light meal. Though let’s face it, in the land of smoked cheese, cured meats, Atlantic-caught seafood, and Pastel de Nata, we suspect you’ll be dining out, a lot. And you won’t have far to go to find all the delicacies, or indeed must-see sights, of the city. You’re just five minutes from some of the city’s most happening bars and restaurants and a twenty-minute stroll from the Duoro River. The famous Livraria Lello, where Harry Potter was born is just around the corner. So is the Clérigos Tower viewpoint – the perfect spot to admire this picture-postcard pretty city.

This attractive apartment is in a central Batalha location, just two minutes from Batalha Square and a ten-minute walk from lively Ribiera. There are restaurants and cafes nearby, in addition to bus stops and Sâo Bento train station – if convenience is key for you, this is a great choice of base. The apartment is simple, allowing the floor-to-ceiling windows to draw the eye. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the open-plan living and dining space, which isn’t the most private.

This home is located on the Rua Galeria de Paris, a street famous for its nightlife and lively spirit. It's a simple yet elegant apartment, with clean lines, crisp white walls and modern furniture. But the best feature, we're sure you'll agree, has to be the roof terrace. You could spend hours up here, from your morning coffee to a final sundowner, looking out over the historic buildings of Porto's old town. 

You're well-positioned to visit many of the top sights in the city, with Clérigos Tower and Aliados Avenue a five-minute walk away, and the Livraria Lello Bookstore just around the corner – rumour has it this literary wonderland inspired the Hogwarts library. Your host can even organise food tours on request, showing you the very best of the city's gastronomic scene. And, when night falls, you only need to step outside to find yourself right in the epicentre of Porto's fabulous nightlife.

Follow the winding staircase up to the third floor and you'll find a cosy, light-filled apartment waiting for you. Apple red French doors open onto the sweet balcony, which grants you sweeping views across Porto's rooftops and more of that pretty Portuguese tile. It's the perfect spot to indulge in an alfresco breakfast or savour a glass of vinho verde as the sun goes down – if you're anything like us, you'll spend every spare second out here, drinking in the scenery. Although the kitchenette is compact and the bathroom is on the smaller side, we didn't mind – there's still a good amount of space to get comfortable, and the minimal, boho-chic design is a palate cleanser after a busy day exploring.

Speaking of, this neighbourhood is a trendy area full of independent bars, cafes, and restaurants. In contrast, the main bedroom, as an interior room, lacks a little natural light due to the lack of a window. That said, you’ll have a relaxing night’s sleep without any light disturbance. When you’re ready to explore, the Marquês metro station is on your doorstep so you can travel around the city with ease. 

A Splash of Sunshine

Located on one of Porto’s liveliest streets, this studio apartment is very close to the iconic Ribeira which can be reached on foot within seven minutes. A picturesque part of the city, in the heart of the old town, Ribeira is a riverside spot overlooking the Douro River where you can visit Praça da Ribeira square which is lined with colourful 18th-century townhouses, and visit Bolsa Palace, a neoclassical landmark with ornate interiors which is a short three-minute walk from your door. At dinner time, weave your way through the cobbled streets of Ribeira where you will find plenty of small bars and eateries – to taste classic Portuguese fare such as grilled sardines.

This home is also perfectly situated to explore everything else that Porto has to offer. Porto Cathedral can be reached within five minutes by foot where you can enjoy the sunlight shining in through the stained glass rose window as you explore one of the city’s oldest Romanesque monuments. Clérgios Tower is just a seven-minute walk away, while a chance to admire the blue-tiled exterior of The Church of Souls – painted with scenes of saints – is just a ten-minute walk from your door.

Go shopping at Livraria Lello, often regarded as one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world – just an eight-minute walk away. Or, experience what Porto is best known for – its port wine production – at a wine tasting room just two minutes away from this home on foot. Down the Ribeira

Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

Set within a quiet corner of picturesque Ribeira, with Porto's must-see sights within walking distance, this apartment's location is hard to beat. Take your pick from Praça da Ribeira Square, the neoclassical Bolsa Palace or Douro River – it's all just a short stroll away. Back home, the courtyard garden is a nice touch for morning coffees, even though there's not much of a view. However, the Juliet balcony windows overlooking Porto's rooftops from the living room and main bedroom make up for that.

Located right next to Jardim das Virtudes and near the iconic Clérigos Tower, this stylish studio apartment gives guests the convenience of being able to walk out to see Porto's attractions with ease. The perfect base from which to explore the city, the space features a small balcony with enough room to sit and enjoy a drink in the sunshine. Inside, ample sunlight flows through the studio during the day, and the cosy set-up and aesthetics of the living area allow for chilled-out evenings at home. While the draw of this place is having the choice, it's quite likely you'll want to discover the nearby local eateries and wine cellars when staying here. 


The Portent

This modern apartment is in the middle of Porto, an easy walk from the Douro River where you’ll find the famous wine warehouses and day cruises. The streets around this place are packed with restaurants and bars, yet the living room faces an internal courtyard for a bit of peace. While there’s nothing particularly unique about the design, the open living area is a comfy spot to unwind with a full kitchen for meals at home. The main bedroom leads out to a private balcony which is great for a breath of fresh air, despite the lack of view.

From its enviable position in the centre of Porto, this stylish yet functional apartment is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends alike. The open-plan living space is perfectly proportioned, with enough room for entertaining your loved ones or enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of coffee. We had a particular soft spot for the individually designed bedrooms and we loved the kitchen’s handy serving hatch.

When you’re ready to explore your surroundings. Begin with a trip to Porto Cathedral, just a short walk from your building. Or why not head down to the water? Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.
