Located right in front of Praça da Figueira with views of the square from its Juliet balcony, this apartment puts you in a wonderfully central spot from which to explore Lisbon’s sights. The decor is a pêle-mêle of styles that won’t be to everyone’s taste. And the great locale means street noise is to be expected. However, the interconnecting bedrooms make this spot a good choice for families, as well as those looking to spend their days visiting the myriad cultural hotspots within easy walking distance. 


The Marquis of Jardem

Located in the prestigious Estrela neighbourhood of Lisbon, this central spot makes for a convenient stay centred around soaking up the city's sights. Ideal for a couple, the space offers a comfortable set-up to base yourselves between days out exploring. You'll be within walking distance of most of the city's attractions, and with a little kitchenette area, it gives you the choice of dining out to discover the local culinary delights or preparing your own meals at home. It's worth noting that while there is space for an additional two guests to sleep on the sofa bed, it may be a little cramped when booked at maximum occupancy. 


Prism of Summer

This cosy and charming studio apartment nestled in the heart of the historic Belém district is just the place for a couple visiting Lisbon on a romantic getaway. You could hardly wish for a more perfect spot to base yourself, with the city’s many museums and fantastic restaurants situated right on your doorstep. You’ll also be just a short stroll from the sea. 

The inside of this pad is compact yet breezy, with a light-filled open-plan living area and bedroom. You’ll be able to kick back and relax here after a long day of exploring – snuggle up on the sofa with a good movie or enjoy a romantic supper at the dining table. While the kitchenette is certainly on the small side, you can easily put together lighter bites. A night of restful sleep will find you in the comfy bed – wake up feeling restored and ready for more city adventures. 

The Age of Discovery 

Bright and inviting, Light of Lights is a homey and stylish apartment in the quiet neighbourhood of Lapa. Personal arty touches such as brightly painted chairs and tiles add pizazz and character, although you’ll probably want to spend most of your time on the two beautiful balconies – they really make this home stand out. As the name suggests, there's no shortage of natural light here, with huge windows and doors to the balconies from the living room, bedroom and even the kitchen.

The neighbourhood is local, friendly and not overly touristy, but close to top attractions such as the Basilica and Tapada das Necessidades, and best of all it has excellent access to the city's famous tram service. 

Light Of Lights

Situated on the bustling Rua Augusta, a minute’s walk from the Augusta Arch and the grand Praça do Comércio, a stay in Lisbon doesn’t get more central than this. Mornings begin with a stroll along the riverfront after picking up a coffee and a pastry from Martinho da Arcada, the oldest cafe in the city. If sightseeing is on the agenda, stroll over to the Lisbon Cathedral, Carmo Convent and Santa Justa Elevator, each within ten minutes of your doorstep. 

Inside, an inviting living space with warm mustard yellow and orange tones is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine at the end of a busy day. Curl up on the L-shaped couch with a good book until it’s time to cook dinner – the fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need for rustling up something tasty. And when it’s time to call it a night, watch twilight fall over the terracotta rooftops from your private balcony before curling up in comfortable beds.

Marmelada

Sometimes, you come across somewhere that stands out, even by Plum standards, and this is one of those times. Domingos is a beautifully maintained family home in Lapa, with plenty of space, and even a patio out the back. Make new memories dining alfresco out on the leafy, private terrace – it's the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Lisbon. Known for its beautiful buildings, picturesque gardens and global embassies, Lapa is a largely residential area and consequently very quiet. Here, you'll be far removed from the tourists and intense crowds of this thriving city, and yet within reach of Baixa. Perhaps most importantly, the emphasis has clearly been on making it comfortable, rather than trying to squeeze people in. Having a separate (and large) living room, dining area, and kitchen makes it feel genuinely welcoming. The vibrant colours and eclectic decor really stand out too. And with the layout of the bedrooms, it would be particularly well suited to a family holiday. 

Domingos

Staying this close to Praça do Comércio is great if you've only got a few days to immerse yourself in the city. Baixa is a treasury of sights, although it comes with a caveat of authenticity – the area is usually buzzing with tourists, and you'll have to travel a little if you want a more local feel. Green Creek is an immaculate home that simply feels high-end. The furniture is elegant, the natural light is fantastic, the design vision is coherent, and we loved the preserved gaiolas pombalinas that separate the dining from the living room areas. 

Green Creek

Close enough to the action to feel buzzy and vibrant, yet just far enough out of the touristic centre to ensure an authentic experience. This cosy and classic apartment is filled with traditional touches such as colourful tiled floors, a light-filled living room that's perfect for putting your feet up and a compact kitchen that can handle anything you care to throw at it. In addition, the views out over Palácio de São Bento, home of the Portuguese parliament, provide a real sense of place. While most visitors flock to Alfama and pack out the bars of Bairro Alto, we'd suggest that it's Príncipe Real that is on the up. Walk 500m to the lush Jardim do Príncipe Real. Here, locals gather to sit and sip coffee, play chess and gossip – it's a genuine slice of Lisbon life. But there's a lot more going on here than bica (espresso) and board games. The neighbourhood is a haven for foodies too. Right by the park, you'll find celebrated A Cevicheria, where diners gather to indulge in flawlessly executed small plate seafood. At the same time, Atalho Real serves sumptuous steaks in a laid-back atmosphere. And the fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down – local fave Pavilhão Chinês serves up inventive cocktails in an old grocery store packed out with antiques. 

Queen's Gambit

If browsing stylish boutiques is your bag, then this home in chic Chiado is just the ticket. You'll also find stylish restaurants, and the iconic 1700s Bertrand Bookstore here. It's just a two-minute stroll to Praça Luís de Camões with its statues of Portuguese literary icons, while the National Theatre of São Carlos is five minutes on foot. Other attractions nearby include Lisbon Cathedral, under a twenty-minute walk and the Elevador De Santa Justa, a ten-minute saunter.

Back at this lovely apartment, take in the fabulous views over the River Tagus with a glass of rosé wine – we love the traditional tiles here too. Inside, an array of plants give this place a homely feel. Enjoy a pastel de nata at the dining table or relax on the comfy grey sofa after all that sightseeing. This home is perfect for a couple or friends looking for a sophisticated setting.


Chiado Chic

Although it's nestled in the heart of beautiful Bairro Alto, the surrounding narrow streets have a quiet and distinctly village-like feel where locals know each other and the streets are filled with coffee shops, concept stores, restaurants and art galleries. By night, it's a whole other story – the neighbourhood fills with people and the streets become outdoor extensions of the many bars in the area. Your home will be a lovely peaceful spot that’s still near all the action – trendy Chiado is just an eight-minute walk away. Our favourite spot of the apartment has got to be the southwest-facing balcony – it’s narrow but long, and offers up incredible views of the River Tagus and the 25th April Bridge at sunset. Bring your evening aperitif outside as you watch the sky’s colours change, or enjoy your morning coffees out here as day settles over the city. The inside of the house is extremely welcoming – there’s a large marble dining table for meals all together and a bright, stylish living room that’s been dynamically designed. At the end of a long day, wash up in the roomy bathrooms before settling in the bedrooms, where you’ll rest easy in anticipation of another beautiful Lisbon day tomorrow. 

The Bowie

Combining contemporary touches with rustic architectural elements, this sophisticated apartment in Lisbon’s historic Bica neighbourhood is not only perfectly placed but a pleasure to stay in. French doors allow natural light to illuminate the living space – relax on the L-shaped sofa with your tipple of choice or take a seat at the dining table with a box of freshly baked pastéis de nata. While there’s a well-appointed kitchen at your disposal, we recommend hanging up your chef’s apron and sampling the excellent selection of bars, restaurants and tascas right on your doorstep. 

If sightseeing is on the itinerary, begin with the Carmo Convent, just a short walk away, before moseying to Praça do Comércio for views of the Tagus River. Head east to Alfama, stopping at the Lisbon Cathedral, then weave through the higgledy-piggledy cobblestone streets to the Portas do Sol viewpoint to watch the sun set behind the terracotta rooftops.
