If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.


Finesse in the Forest

Savour your stay at this stunning property with its irresistible combination of an unmatched coastal location, minimalist design and a relaxing dune garden with an inviting pool. The home comprises three separate units – one with a luxurious living space, one containing the main bedroom and a final module containing two additional bedrooms. While it might not be ideal for families with young children, it works exceptionally well for families with older kids and groups of friends.

Interior spaces vibe perfectly with the creative, barefoot bohemian character of Comporta. Think bleached wood, wicker furniture and earth tones that help you feel integrated into your surroundings. Each building has been designed to remove the barriers between you and the natural world, with large doors that swing out to provide seamless access to the central pool surrounded by sun loungers and a rustic pergola for outdoor dining in the shade.

The dune garden boardwalk gives way to wild beaches, with two of Comporta's best-known stretches of sand just a short walk away. Here, you can spend days soaking up the sun beneath cloudless skies, frolicking in the surf and exploring the ever-shifting sand dunes.

Cabanas da Comporta

Situated in Brejos da Carregueira de Baixo, this home is made up of three gorgeous villas. Unspoiled nature surrounds the property with paradisal views, and the pool can be heated for an extra cost. During your stay, you'll have privileged access to the private beach of Brejinhos, with beach towels provided to help you make the most of it. We think it's a great choice for families travelling with kids – your host can provide a high chair and cot for an additional fee, and you can rent bikes or a buggy for exploring the area.

The Flower District

Nestled in a 100-year-old estate, this thoughtfully restored farmhouse offers peace, privacy and stunning views. You’ll also have a private pool for refreshing swims and beautiful outdoor spaces for leisurely barbecues and alfresco dining. The rooms are set across the old farmhouse and a cottage – making this a great option for groups looking to stretch out. And when it comes to explorations further afield, you can follow hiking trails through the surrounding countryside. It’s also just a ten-minute drive to the centre of Torres Vedras where you’ll find supermarkets and restaurants. 


Song of Stillness 

There are few places in the world as peaceful as the Comporta region. And here, in this Californian-style, boho-chic villa, you’re in the perfect place to switch off and recharge, just twenty-five minutes from the dazzling beaches of Comporta. Surrounded by an idyllic pine and cork oak forest and with your own glittering pool, relaxing comes easy. You wouldn’t think you’re just an hour’s drive from bustling Lisbon. 

It isn’t just the setting that makes this home so special. Despite the home’s recent renovation in 2021, the traditional touches of a terracotta tiled roof, original gas burner, and Portuguese-style tiles were kept. It’s been beautifully done to suit both a modern and traditional preference, respecting its roots while providing a contemporary level of comfort. The kitchen is a perfect example of this – top-notch appliances are met with rustic surfaces and shelves, embodying the bohemian spirit of Comporta. It’s certainly a kitchen that wants to be cooked in, whether that’s by you or a private chef.

As much as we love the interior, it’s the outdoor area that takes the cake. You’re wrapped up in dreamy haze of peach and pink here, with hours blissfully rolling by as you lie on the in-pool daybed, dipping your toe in the water, with nothing but the forest stretching around you. Life stands still and you finally get to the level of relaxation you’ve been craving. Afternoon pool dips are followed by crisp glasses of wine, enjoyed in the sparkling white 70s-style sofa pit. When dinnertime rolls around, present a feast of salads garnished with the herbs picked from your garden and barbecued local produce along the outdoor dining table, covered by the straw pergola. 

Peachy Dreams

This modern home close to Portugal’s western coast is a great place for families or groups of friends. Each of the bedrooms comes with an ensuite and has direct access to either a terrace or private balcony. The open-plan living space provides a cosy space for communal meals, or you can make use of the built-in barbecue and outdoor dining area. Amenities such as supermarkets, restaurants and Praia da Lagoa de Albufeira beach, where you can go diving or learn how to surf, are but a short drive away.

Just a short stroll from the beach, this home is perfectly located for a refreshing coastal getaway. There's also a private heated pool and a wonderful shaded terrace for alfresco dining. From here, it’s possible to walk to the nearest shop, but we recommend hiring a car to explore further afield – the beautiful beaches of Comporta are less than thirty minutes away.

Kids will beeline for the private pool, while the sun beds and outdoor seating are great for sharing drinks or an alfresco lunch. Foodies will love the two kitchens and the option of a private chef, and that's before you head down to Comporta or Grândola for mouth-watering local cuisine. Whether you have your own car or you're renting bikes or an off-road buggy, Carvalhal and Raposa beaches are within easy reach and you'll be well-placed to enjoy this gorgeous location. 

The Lake Fort

A stay in this magazine-worthy home could be your very own Portuguese nature retreat. The home is spread over three cabanas, all connected via a wooden walkway. The natural interiors and exteriors match the forest surroundings, and there's plenty of outside seating to maximise your time spent out in the fresh air, including a dining table on the shaded terrace.  If the private swimming pool, terrace and garden weren't enough, the sandy Pego beach, shops and restaurants are a short drive away.
