Located only a few minutes from the Clérigos Tower, On The Lookout's rooftop terrace offers a rival view to the Cathedral and downtown architecture. The insides of this home are equally impressive, with a welcoming communal area all dressed in wood. The rustic touches are added in the form of forest animal prints, which adds to the warm ambiance in every room. The terrace is only accessible via the upstairs bedroom, but if that's not too much of an inconvenience, then you're cordially invited to experience the view (and the comfort) for yourself.

Now updated to house families itching to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City, it's comfortable – though the two bedrooms with the sloped ceilings might be better for kids – and bright with a fantastic location. Walk to Porto Cathedral and other landmarks in minutes, buy fresh produce from the Bolhão market only a short stroll away, and hop on the trams to find points of interest further afield.

From its enviable position in the centre of Porto, this stylish yet functional apartment is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends alike. The open-plan living space is perfectly proportioned, with enough room for entertaining your loved ones or enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of coffee. We had a particular soft spot for the individually designed bedrooms and we loved the kitchen’s handy serving hatch.

When you’re ready to explore your surroundings. Begin with a trip to Porto Cathedral, just a short walk from your building. Or why not head down to the water? Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

Guests rave about the location of this Porto apartment, and it’s easy to see why. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away. It’s worth noting if six guests share, two of you will have to make do with a double sofa bed in the living space. Not ideal for some, but it could work great for family sharing. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

This home nearly feels like staying on a boat – what with the large French doors opening directly onto the Douro River. Whether you’re sat on the sofa or enjoying a coffee at the dining table, you’ll have sweeping views of the water and the city. The windows’ second benefit is the sheer amount of light the living space gets, bathing the tasteful furniture in the warm sun. We could spend hours with a book in the armchair, taking in the sea air as the day grows to a peak. But of course, this central location leaves much to be explored. There are many attractions nearby too. Head to Livraria Lello, one of the world's most beautiful bookstores, under a fifteen-minute stroll away. Porto Cathedral and Bolhão Market are both a twenty-five-minute walk. Or, lovers of sculpture can visit the Soares dos Reis National Museum, eight minutes on foot.

Inside, while this apartment is studio living, we think it’s expertly formed and feels surprisingly spacious. The designers knew what they were doing here, with earthy textures, warm wooden hues, and pops of botanical greens fusing beautifully.

Over in the made-for-action kitchen, there’s everything you could need to rustle up a bite to eat. And don’t get us started on the bedroom area with charming views over the terrace to the lofty palm trees and blue skies beyond.

Location doesn’t get much better than this in Porto – on a charming shopping street just a couple of streets away from Sao Bento train station. It’s the ideal position to explore the city on foot, with the ancient azulejo-tiled churches and baroque towers punctuating orange-roofed buildings. On your doorstep, you’ve got family-run restaurants, charming coffee shops and bakeries serving oven-fresh custard tarts. Plus, the famous wine warehouses that line the Douro at Ribeira are just a short stroll away.

This studio apartment is a stylish spot to return to after a day exploring downtown Porto. Not many duplexes boast their own private garden in the city centre. This one has a secluded sunny lawn and patio, surrounded by stone walls for the utmost privacy. It’s the perfect spot for a drop of the city’s famed port wine at sunset. Inside, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living room has tall traditional windows letting in tons of natural light. Soft greys and pinks set a cool, calm atmosphere. There’s a separate sitting room with a dedicated remote workspace, should you need to catch up on emails. Bedrooms are housed in thick white stone walls typical of Portuguese design, keeping things cool in summer and cosy in the colder months.

Porto is a city perhaps best known for the fortified wine that borrows its name, so it only feels appropriate that this large apartment in the downtown area of the city feels like it has been designed for gathering people together. 

The space revolves around an open kitchen-dining area that looks like the trendiest restaurant in town. Here, guests can get stuck in and whip up tasty dishes, or alternatively watch the action from a seat at the large island. If you’d prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, there's the option of hiring a private chef at this address who can take care of mealtimes. Once dinner is piping hot and ready to serve, there's a huge dining table to seat the whole party and spend long evenings around. 

If you ever fancy a breath of fresh air at any point, there's a balcony with a pleasant view of the street below. Outside, Bolhão market is only a five-minute walk away when you want to pick up some fresh, local ingredients, while Bolsa Palace can be reached in just over fifteen if you're in the mood for some culture. While it may not be the roomiest home – it’s certainly a great base for a family or group of friends to explore the city. Authentic restaurants and bars are just a brief walk away, and you’re not far from Bolhao Market, Santa Catarina Street, Aliados Avenue, and the river either.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll be drawn out to the balcony, where – if you’re anything like us – you’ll tuck into breakfast each day, and round things off by watching the sunset with a glass of wine. It’s an idyllic spot. 

Inside, the apartment is just as striking. Exposed stone walls and dark wood furniture combine with floor-to-ceiling windows to stunning effect, and everything you need is close to hand. Cook local dishes in the kitchen and dine in together, opening up the balcony doors to merge the indoor and outdoor spaces for cocktail hour. 

When you want to see more of Porto, you’ll find that you’re within easy walking distance of all of the major sights and attractions. You’ll never want to leave this classy and convenient home.

With an address on an iconic street, this home is within walking distance of many of Porto’s top attractions. We’re talking about Mercado do Bolhão (five-minutes on foot) and the majestic Clérigos Tower, an eight minute walk away. If you love books, then we’d recommend a browse around Livraria Lello, said to be one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world – it’s well worth the eleven-minute stroll.

Back at this home, take in the views over the city from your private balcony with a glass of rich Port or a cup of coffee. Alternatively, relax on the green mid-century style sofa, next to the potted palm in the light-filled open plan living space. We love that the bedroom opens out onto the balcony too – perfect for breakfast in the morning.


A Strawberry Moon

You're sure to be instantly enchanted by the blue-tiled facade of this historic building – we know we were – and that traditional charm continues inside. Follow the winding staircase up to the third floor and you'll find a cosy, light-filled apartment waiting for you. Apple red French doors open onto the sweet balcony, which grants you sweeping views across Porto's rooftops and more of that pretty Portuguese tile. It's the perfect spot to indulge in an alfresco breakfast or savour a glass of vinho verde as the sun goes down – if you're anything like us, you'll spend every spare second out here, drinking in the scenery. Although the kitchenette is compact and the bathroom is on the smaller side, we didn't mind – there's still a good amount of space to get comfortable, and the minimal, boho-chic design is a palate cleanser after a busy day exploring.

Speaking of, this neighbourhood is a trendy area full of independent bars, cafes, and restaurants. You'll find plenty of charming squares nearby to have a drink in, and several of Porto's main attractions are within walking distance – namely Clérigos Tower (twelve minutes on foot), Livraria Lello bookstore (a ten-minute stroll) and the Cais da Ribeira (twenty-five minutes away). If sightseeing, shopping and dining are on your to-do list, we think this is the ideal locale for you.

In the direct neighbourhood, you’re secluded from the bustle of the city centre, but you can watch it all from your quiet location across the river. The host has invested a lot of effort and brainpower to make the original architectural features work with modern furniture, and the end result is stunning. This home is closer to an aparthotel than a characterful private residence, but that does come with its perks, like daily cleaning and breakfast, which are included in your stay.

We love the casual grandeur of the open-plan living area with its tall rustic ceiling, as well as the glass doors that slide open to reveal a large balcony equipped with a table and chairs.
