Overlooking the Douro River, its bridges, and the rolling hills beyond, this home is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature – and it's only about an hour or so from Porto. Outside, you'll have a private pool, hot tub, and river-facing terrace to enjoy. Indoors, modern design is accented by the panoramas. With a collection of en-suite bedrooms to choose from, you'll also be able to enjoy some privacy. And the best part? Breakfast and daily cleaning are included.


Pearl of the Valley

Portugal may be a holiday hotspot for those seeking sun, sea and sand, but if solitude also features highly on your list, this home might just be for you. The Minho region is less visited than Porto or Lisbon, but no less beautiful, and Twigs at Twilight perfectly embodies its rural elegance. The sleek pool and minimalist decor are accentuated by old stone walls and locally-sourced timber, making for a natural and unfussy aesthetic. This home is ideal for all those who crave a peaceful escape with beautiful scenery, the chance to explore some of Portugal’s oldest villages and untouched coastline, and a glimpse into a simpler, more traditional way of life without sacrificing on creature comforts. 


Twigs at Twilight

Make the most of the Afife coastline from this luxurious villa and ensure the holiday of a lifetime. Nestled in a small village, and just a short drive from the jewel of Costa Verse, Viana do Castelo, this stunning villa sits in the verdant hills above the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a short distance to the powdery sands of Praia de Afife, the border between Spain’s Galicia, the adventure-packed rivers of the Rio Lima estuary and the countryside hiking trails in the Lima valley.

Inside, the space is dominated by an expansive, wooden-beamed living area where you’ll find an elegant dining table for sharing bacalhau fish stew dinners and a contemporary lounge boasting ambient lighting for cosy nights in sharing aperitifs. The sleek kitchen has plenty of prep space, courtesy of a glossy island, which keeps the space social. A second dining room leads off the kitchen and out onto the patio – we’ll be honest, this one’s our favourite – perfect for alfresco dinners together under pink-hued sunsets.

Staying outside, there are plenty of spaces for every member to unwind. The patio is decked out with lounge chairs, perfect for soaking up the sun before plunging into the pristine pool for a cooling dip. We have to say we think the garden is the ideal spot to begin mornings over fresh coffee and locally bought pastéis de nata and to end evenings with caipirinha cocktails under the starlit sky. 

Soul of Afife 

Surrounded by pretty vineyards, sprawling olive groves, and idyllic green peaks, this charming villa is wonderfully positioned in the heart of the wine-producing Douro Valley region. Make the most of the area and hike the world-famous Douro Valley, admiring the sweeping picturesque views, or indulge in some wine tasting at the nearby winery – pick out your favourite and enjoy it all holiday long. 

When you return to the villa, cool off in your private swimming pool, or simply relax in one of the outdoor seating areas. From garden tables and chairs, and sun loungers, to an outside dining area with a summer kitchen, this home provides the very best in outdoor living. The authentic Portuguese furnishings and natural tones inside blend with the rural backdrop of the surrounding terrains, and there's an easy, homey feel to the place. We particularly love the numerous patio doors, giving every room access to the outside space and flooding them with natural light.

The Vine Lady

Amid the rolling hills and vineyards of the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley, this home opens its doors to a restorative countryside escape. Inspired by organic living, the clever owners have created a simple sanctuary where locally sourced furnishings and art sit alongside contemporary comforts. The garden features a private infinity pool and access to the Corgo River. There’s also a rustic wine cellar which can be used for events (upon request), and an independent studio sleeping four guests – making this the ideal location for groups to enjoy privacy and quality time together. 

The Gentle Earth

This restored farmhouse sits in the nature-rich Portuguese region of Minho, encircled by valleys, sparkling rivers, plenty of cycling routes, and historical towns. You get a beautiful slice of that breathtaking nature from your countryside oasis. 

Whether you’re playing football on the soft grass, admiring the view from the terrace, or listening to the birds chatter while lying around the pool, nature is all around. You’re even welcomed by bougainvillea and cypress trees as you approach the stone brick home.

You’ll first notice the home’s traditional façade. Made up of three houses, two of which have long histories – the main house was a baker's, and the annexe, now a games room, was a distillery. Make use of the original bread and pizza oven for unforgettable meals, and whittle away evenings playing pool and drinking local wine. 

There’s plenty to keep you entertained here, but perhaps all you really want is to catch up on your book beside the pool. Let the hours drift by, breathing in the fresh country air while topping up your tan. Come dusk, the place to be is your balcony – nothing beats watching the sun dip into the sea. 

When it’s time to explore, you’re less than a mile from Afife and its beachy cafes, surf shops, seafood restaurants, and long stretch of sugary white sand. When you’re not catching waves or relaxing on the beach, hop on a hiking trail to one of the nearby waterfalls and discover the rugged mountain range. 

Valleys & Views

Situated near one of Portugal’s oldest towns, this home offers peace and tranquillity. There are plenty of grounds to explore, including a pond (our favourite area), mature woodland and numerous paths leading into the countryside. Alternatively, simply unwind next to the private pool or admire the enchanting garden views from the veranda of the main house and the cottage.

This place is ideal for a large group of friends or family – there’s a charming separate cottage with a twin bedroom and kitchenette too, which provides a perfect space for those in search of a tad more privacy. If you love traditional interiors, then you’re in luck – from the grandfather clock in the dining room to the farmhouse-style kitchen and antique beds, this home is full of old-world character.

Nestled in a wonderful rural landscape, there’s plenty to see and do. Ponte de Lima, one of Portugal’s most historic towns, with its ornate squares, cobbled alleyways, and vast riverside Monday market, is just 13 kilometres away. The country’s only national park, the mountainous nature reserve of Peneda Geres National Park, is just a forty-minute drive away and offers prehistoric remains and walking trails, as well as golden eagles, deer and wolves – oh my.


White Water Lillies

Whether you're visiting the Douro region to sample its produce, soak up some sun, journey into Porto or head away with the family, this Peso da Régua apartment is a real find. On the ground floor you'll find a characterful living room, dining area and kitchen, while upstairs features two bedrooms and two bathrooms with standalone showers to ease any morning traffic. This home also grants you access to a glimmering communal pool, proximity to several inspiring hiking routes, and unique views of the remarkable mountains and river running through them. You'll be around an hour and twenty minutes from the vibrant city of Porto, although a car is strongly recommended for getting around.

The Grapes of Joy

With its long stretch of wild and beautiful beaches, the northern coast of Portugal is a haven for sun-seekers and surf lovers. And just a short drive from Moledo beach (one of the region's most renowned destinations), this villa provides the perfect setting for a dreamy coastal getaway.

Nestled within a sanctuary of trees and offering views across the Minho river, you’ll find this home is designed with your comfort in mind. The light and airy rooms are complimented by minimalist furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows, while the peaceful bedrooms set the tone for total relaxation. 

Follow the views outside, and you’ll find the garden welcoming you to enjoy lazy days by the pool, relaxing sunset drinks and al fresco meals that linger long into the evening. 

From here, it’s just a twenty-minute walk to the nearest mini-market, while the charming old Roman Town of Caminha (just a short drive or energising walk away) boasts a lively promenade with an abundant selection of restaurants, cafes and bars – perfect for connecting with the authentic spirit of the region. And for explorations further afield, the coast is brimming with opportunities for hiking, cycling, wine-tasting and simply admiring the natural beauty of Portugal. 

Velvet Moon

Nestled in the Costa Verde countryside, this stylish villa offers guests a tranquil retreat while still being just a short drive (4 km) of the port town of Caminha. Wake up to breathtaking views of the sea and Minho River, before getting up close and personal with the water yourself on a visit to the Praia de Moledo and Foz do Minho beaches. This home boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a seamless transition between these inside spaces and the outside amenities, namely the walled garden with private swimming pool and bean bags perfect for sunbathing.

Moredaria

There’s no price for guessing what the city of Porto is famous for. However, you may be surprised to find that this fortified wine begins its life far from the city, in the vineyards found upstream and on either side of the river Douro, and it’s here where you’ll find this eye-catching villa. Overlooking the slopes of Portugal’s wine region, this home boasts panoramic views that are almost impossible to tear your eyes away from. At sunset, make a beeline for the infinity pool that stretches out across the width of the house. There’s a second heated swimming pool to the side, best reached through the open-plan living and dining room. Take a dip beneath a starlit sky or sunbathe during the day. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and windows can be found from the kitchen to the three bedrooms, effortlessly bridging the indoors and outside. The best views can be found from the balcony on the first floor. Since this area has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status, you’ll find that there’s plenty of exploring and hiking to do. But there’s also fun to be had at home on a rainy afternoon – challenge the group to a championship of billiards and table football and may the best team win.

Dreaming of the Douro

Situated in a quiet neighbourhood, this charming home offers a little slice of tranquillity on the outskirts of vibrant Porto. Pair your meal with a local port, and enjoy the flow of conversation with loved ones over dinner. Afterwards, the sofa welcomes you to sink into it and relax into a movie night – but with plenty of quiet nooks around this home, if you’re not in the mood for a film you can easily find somewhere to settle down to get lost in your holiday read.
 
A mere twenty-minute drive and you’ll find yourself in the heart of Porto where you can visit the Cathedral, marvel at the stately bridges or simply stroll the cobbled streets, stopping off at merchants’ houses and the odd cafe for a little sustenance. However you spend your time in this beautiful city, you’ll make treasured memories that will last long after you’ve returned home.
