Set in the leafy suburbs of Stockholm, this home offers perfect peace while still being within easy reach of the city. Open the door of this handsome wooden house and you'll find yourself in a bright space that's bursting with that quintessentially Scandi style. Despite its minimalism, there are still plenty of cosy touches, from the movie room, ideal for snuggling up with a blockbuster, to the wood-burning stove which provides a warming atmosphere as you share a meal at the long dining table. Outside, there's plenty of space to enjoy alfresco feasts cooked on the grill, and even your very own swimming pool – take a refreshing dip, or simply laze in the sun as you watch the kids splash about. There's also a tennis court and golf course close by, and a five-minute walk will bring you down to the nearby lake. This corner of paradise might make you forget that you're so close to the bright lights of Stockholm but, should you want to visit the cobbled streets of the old town, you can drive there in around fifteen minutes.

Sitting close to the coastline on one of the approximately 24,000 islands in the Stockholm Archipelago, this address benefits from not only a private dock, but also a motor boat you can borrow to explore your surroundings a little further. Alternatively, if you're more than content to sit and admire it from afar, there are alfresco tables in the pretty garden from which to dine and gaze out at peaceful waters.

This being Scandinavia, there are certain points in the year in which you'll simply want to coop up inside and it's more than possible to get toasty and warm here. Not only are there wood-burning fireplaces dotted about the communal spaces, but there's also one in the spa-style bathroom, complete with a tub and relaxation area. We're also particularly fond of the homely design throughout, from the rustic kitchens and bright living spaces to the soft rugs underfoot.

Part of the beauty of this address is its sense of isolation and privacy, although this does mean you'll have to hop in the car and potentially on a ferry for restaurants and attractions. That being said, the host can arrange for a private chef to visit the home, which makes life easier somewhat.

Parts of Cowboy Poetry feel like a British pub (complete with a cool Italian globe bar and leather armchairs), while other parts carry unique references to the 1850s building that the home is located in. Both Masculine and Scandinavian, Cowboy Poetry has a lot to offer, especially in terms of its appealing location in posh Frederiksberg. Even though the home doesn’t have a coherent design aesthetic, it’s clear to see that it’s a treasured home with plenty of character.

Situated a five-minute cycle ride from downtown, this trendy apartment is close to the heart of the action yet set apart enough from the touristic throngs. Inside, it’s full of charming details and harmonising colours—the jewel-blue sofa, neon orange cushions and yellow Pop Art banana make for a visually pleasing combination. The dinky kitchen is set up for quick meals at home, but when you’re in the food capital of Scandinavia, eating out is impossible to resist. Copenhagen is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world so getting about is a piece of cake. We adore the incredible views of the water from this retreat on a private archipelago. Relax on the patio with a filmjölk in the morning – the rooftop terrace has beautiful vistas. Later, go for a refreshing swim from your private dock, or take the free stand-up paddleboards out on the water. You can hire a boat from your lovely host too and go fishing or have a kick around on the soccer field. As the sun sets, enjoy a glass of snaps and fire up the pizza oven and savour an alfresco meal, or let a private bartender and chef cater for your dinner party. Inside, the stunning landscape can be relished from the sofas in the bright, stylish living space. There's even a separate one-bedroom guest house for those seeking more privacy. The neighbourhood on your doorstep, Bjørvika, is one of Oslo’s best areas to stay in when it comes to innovative restaurants, bars, museums, and art galleries. The apartment is also just a fifteen-minute walk from Oslo’s city centre with cosmopolitan culture and history aplenty – think vibrant nightlife, lots of shopping streets, and famous landmarks such as Akershus Fortress and the Royal Palace.

Browse the books at the amazing Deichman Library, learn something new at the Munch Museum, or visit the Opera House – all are two minutes away on foot.

Part of a brand new hotel building in Oslo, this fourth-floor apartment benefits from both a private garden and rooftop terrace, but don't worry if the Nordic weather's not quite right for relaxing in the open air – the living quarters are just as pleasant thanks to the impeccable design. We can't imagine anywhere we'd like to return to more after a day of exploring the Norwegian capital's restaurants, parks and landmarks – not to mention the building's original public bath dating back to the 1930s, which has been gloriously restored.

Clad in wood with bespoke, hand-crafted windows and a green Swedish steel roof, this home is the epitome of a Danish summer house. It’s modern and spacious inside, with corridors filled with sunlight against the wooden walls. Days can be spent at the beach, 100 metres away – Ordrupt Strand is a long sweep of uninterrupted sand. Around the home, woodland hikes allow you to reconnect with nature, and the small town has a handful of restaurants and a supermarket for stocking up on supplies. For such a rural area, there are a surprising number of Michelin-starred establishments around, the closest is Dragsholm Castle, a fifteen-minute drive away. 

The summer house is surrounded by trees for a bit of privacy, so you can barbecue in the yard and gather around the fire pit at night in complete seclusion. There’s also an outdoor shower to wash sandy feet on return from Ordrupt Strand. Inside, the dining area is flooded with sunlight thanks to a wall of tall windows. Here, you’ve got enough room for ten people to dine easily. The little seating area with wicker chairs and a sofa is set around a wood-burning stove for that hygge vibe. Bedrooms are wood-clad and cabin-cosy, spread between two buildings.

Tucked away in residential Frogner, this quiet home is the perfect setting for a relaxing family getaway or romantic retreat to the West End of Oslo. Inside, elegant and uncluttered living areas make this a home you’ll be more than happy to linger in, boasting simple but stylish furniture pieces and beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. Stretch out on the living room sofa and lose yourself in a book from your ‘must-read’ pile or head out onto the patio for a hearty evening meal with your fellow guests before turning in for the night. 

Despite this home’s quiet atmosphere, you’re not far from the city centre here, so why not make the most of it? Hop on the tram and embark on a whistle-stop tour of Oslo’s most famous attractions or stick close to home and go for a relaxing wander through nearby Frogner Park, home of Gustav Vigeland's iconic sculpture installation. Wooden walls and floors, outdoor decking, and large sash windows give this semi-detached home an open feel – perfect for groups of friends, who don't mind having a neighbour next door (or who might want to take over both homes). The home is made of thermo log, recently built in 2019, so this is a home that takes the log cabin vibe and modernises it. In the summer, make the most of the long nights on the balcony, watching the twilight through the pine forest that surrounds the plot. Come winter, it's only a ten-minute drive to Ylläs ski resort – when you're done, get home and bag your space in the private sauna. Evenings are best spent in the living area, in front of the burning fire and watching the TV from the grey L-shaped sofa. If that sounds a bit too chilled out, ski and snowmobile trails run by the space, perfect for exploring this corner of Finland.

Lyre's Leap

For a peaceful summer holiday in Kasnäs where you can totally switch off, this home is Finnish perfection. There's a few other cabins around, but you're largely remote living. Surrounded by nature, you're practically on the lake, and have all the comforts of a contemporary home. You might expect lakeside living to be rustic, but the slatted white walls mixed with moody dark furniture and sporadic plants give living here a Scandi-chic element. Start your days with coffee on the private porch against the crisp air, before heading to the communal wood heated sauna and lounge by the lake. You can rent a boat and explore the area on water, while the shared barbecue area is the perfect place to meet like-minded travellers and soak in the island atmosphere over some dinner. Then settle in for the night, snug in your lakeside home.

Wake up to frosted Nordic spruces and falling snowflakes glittering on the horizon when staying in this semi-detached cabin in Kolari. With wood-panelling inside and the Alpine forests surrounding you, you won't see the wood for the trees sat on the covered terrace with a cup of coffee; a fully immersive forest experience.  Bring along a pair of cross-country skis (there’s a shared drying room for storage) and explore the snow-blanketed trails on your doorstep. As you are in Lapland, try to spot a reindeer or even arrange a husky sleigh experience. The ski lift to the slopes of Äkäslompolo is less than 10 minutes drive away. Come back to your cosy home and warm up in the sauna before preparing dinner by the fireplace and then heading out on the hunt for the Northern Lights. There’s a little wooden fire-pit hut in the garden so you can spend the evening amongst the trees, even after the sun has dipped below the horizon.

While the immediate area isn’t typical of Copenhagen (it’s very modern), you’re only a fifteen-minute walk from The Little Mermaid. The waterfront is also just around the corner. High-ceilinged and minimalist with warm undertones, it’s great for families. Although it could do with some wall art here and there, we love that this place makes you feel at home instantly.
