Along with the sheer size, which makes it excellent for larger groups and multiple families, the home has pretty much every amenity you can think of, from the private spa (with sauna and steam room), two barbecues, enormous TVs, a games room, and even underfloor heating (a game-changer after skiing, trust us). These all make it seem like an oasis in itself, so the fact that you have vast numbers of outdoor activities on your doorstep – from skiing to hiking, boating, golf, and more – leaves you spoiled for choice.

Then step outside and admire the wonderful views from the back deck. From here, you can also spot the sixteenth-hole of the Tahoe Donner Golf Course, which is surely worth a visit if you enjoy the game of golf. Spend your days swimming in any of the area’s magical lakes, enjoy exclusive skiing in colder months or just hang back at the home and relax with a great book and even better company. Whether you’re in town for a business or pleasure, you’re well-positioned to easily get around. Silicon Valley, the bay and San Jose International Airport are all a short drive away and for those after a bit more action, both the beach and San Francisco are just an hour’s drive away.

Nestled in the city of Roseville, California, this modern home is great for friends and families. Well-behaved pets are welcome for an additional fee, and your host can provide a cot and safety equipment for little ones. You'll find a gym, shops, and Blue Oaks Park within walking distance. That said, we recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay here – it's less than an hour's drive to Sacramento, and a couple of hours into San Francisco for day trips.

The Idyllic

This home might be close to Stanford University, but it's a million miles away from your average student house. In fact, parts of it feel more like a learned professor's seminar room, from the shelves packed full of books and the grand piano, to the historic paintings hanging on the walls. There are a couple of desks if you need to study, as well as a few nooks nestled below the window or a roaring fireplace surrounded by comfy armchairs for any late-night philosophical conversations. Alternatively, if you're not in the mood for thinking, there's a Jacuzzi bathtub in the main bathroom. When you fancy a day out, there are distractions in every direction — San Francisco is forty-five minutes' drive to the north, the trails of Pearson-Arastradero Preserve is seven minutes due west and to the south, San Jose can be reached in under half an hour.

In the evenings, the sunsets are even more special. After a day exploring the nearby vineyards, curl up around the fire pit and host your own tasting session.

It doesn’t take a genius though to see this home is pretty special. The living room’s huge glass doors give way to a sun-soaked patio while just inside, a large dining table is perfectly positioned for semi-al fresco dining. An eye-catching iron staircase leads upstairs to the bedrooms, both boasting their own freestanding bathtubs in their respectively luxurious bathrooms. Wander down to the large, white kitchen to cook up a Cali-fresh meal, or head out to explore Mountain View’s downtown bars and restaurants just under a mile away. While the area is known for its many cycling and walking paths, you can also easily explore further afield. San Francisco is just a forty-minute drive away or a short train ride from Mountain View station, just ten minutes down the road.
