Traverse the perfect pistes and tantalising trails of Finland’s largest ski resort in magical Lapland. This cosy apartment is in an Alpine-style stone house just 150m from the main slope, so during ski season you can pretty much rise and glide. Check the weather from your living room window — if it’s a whiteout, then swap the slopes for a pamper day at one of the nearby spas or catch a movie in the local cinema. In summer once the snow has melted, the twenty-four hours of sunshine illuminate the lush green fells, while shorter winter days are for sleigh rides, snowmobile safaris and hunting the Northern Lights. After a day packed with outdoor adventures, soothe tired muscles in your private sauna. When it’s time for apres-ski activities (whether you’ve actually hit the slopes or not), there’s a restaurant on the ground floor that plays live music — don’t worry, the apartment is well soundproofed. Once you’re warmed up, you can head next door to the karaoke bar to belt out a tune, although it might take some Dutch (or in this case, Finnish) courage.
