If you're looking for a remote location to escape the fuss and flutter of daily life, then this cosy cabin on the banks of Lake Akanjärvi is sure to fit the bill. Set in the woodlands, just over twenty minutes from the resort town of Levi, this home offers the best of both worlds – isolation, tranquillity, and yet only a short drive from civilisation. Plus, there's the added bonus of being a mere 40-metres from a natural beach, shared with neighbouring cabins. It's the perfect spot to get away from it all and embrace the slow pace of the Finnish countryside. We love how the scandi-style interiors give off a modern look, while the plump grey sofas, animal print rugs, wooden structure and stone hearth fireplace keep things extra snug. Enter into the height of hygge with your very own sauna – whether you've been out slaloming the slopes or idling by the water, a detox will provide that healthy, holiday glow feeling in no time at all. Outside of the home, views of the Northern lights are visible (time and weather permitting), while the charming nearby town of Kittilä has a 19th-century wooden church, authentic restaurants and bars, a twenty-three-minute drive away. 

Lakeside Serenity

If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise; a warm and toasty home fit for any intrepid adventurer! From the moment you step through the front door, this lakeside cottage wraps you up in a warm embrace, welcoming you in with ultimate Nordic comfort. We love this home for its cosy atmosphere, wild location and ease of access to everything guests might need, including its own shore and rowboat for days when the water calls.

Start each day the right way with a mug of something hot and a belly full of delicious local delights before grabbing your skis and heading to the slopes, which can be reached in a short eight-minute drive from the cottage. When the day is drawing to a close and the chill in your toes has you calling for warmth, head on home and relax in your private sauna, or snuggle up on the sofa, toasting marshmallows by the fireplace. For guests with children, a little quiet time is just around the corner as the PlayStation 2 and its arsenal of games will keep the kids entertained.

Toasted Marshmallows

Wake up to frosted Nordic spruces and falling snowflakes glittering on the horizon when staying in this semi-detached cabin in Kolari. With wood-panelling inside and the Alpine forests surrounding you, you won't see the wood for the trees sat on the covered terrace with a cup of coffee; a fully immersive forest experience.  Bring along a pair of cross-country skis (there’s a shared drying room for storage) and explore the snow-blanketed trails on your doorstep. As you are in Lapland, try to spot a reindeer or even arrange a husky sleigh experience. The ski lift to the slopes of Äkäslompolo is less than 10 minutes drive away. Come back to your cosy home and warm up in the sauna before preparing dinner by the fireplace and then heading out on the hunt for the Northern Lights. There’s a little wooden fire-pit hut in the garden so you can spend the evening amongst the trees, even after the sun has dipped below the horizon. 

Lapland Lights

Wooden walls and floors, outdoor decking, and large sash windows give this semi-detached home an open feel – perfect for groups of friends, who don't mind having a neighbour next door (or who might want to take over both homes). The home is made of thermo log, recently built in 2019, so this is a home that takes the log cabin vibe and modernises it. In the summer, make the most of the long nights on the balcony, watching the twilight through the pine forest that surrounds the plot. Come winter, it's only a ten-minute drive to Ylläs ski resort – when you're done, get home and bag your space in the private sauna. Evenings are best spent in the living area, in front of the burning fire and watching the TV from the grey L-shaped sofa. If that sounds a bit too chilled out, ski and snowmobile trails run by the space, perfect for exploring this corner of Finland.

Lyre's Leap

Skiing in Finland is an experience all lovers of the slopes should enjoy at some point, with thick snow and fairytale forests. This mountain home is within walking distance of the excellent Masto runs, with views far across the rocky landscape. Within a striking modern building, it's stone and dark grey cladding is an imposing sight. Inside, you'll be wowed by its floor-to-ceiling windows, its double height main room and its stylish Scandi design features. Warm up around the fire, pull up a chair and read by the window, or treat yourself to time alone in the private sauna. If you're here for the skiing, it's practically on your doorstep, and there's lockable ski storage outside. Visit in the summer for a very different view, with lush green hills perfect for hiking.

Summit Lux

One of the most popular ski destinations in Northern Lapland, you'll appreciate everything there is to discover here. This warm and inviting home is classic Scandinavia, the unfussy, functional interiors giving just enough of a homespun feel, so you’ve got somewhere welcoming to return to at the end of an action-packed day. The sauna is an inviting refuge from sub-zero temperatures – kick back and let your muscles release. There's also a storage area for your equipment, facilitating all of your winter adventures. This place gets you on a high, the thrills of fresh powder and perhaps the appearance of Aurora Borealis elevating you to new levels of excitement. You’ll slide into the rhythm of life here in no time and struggle to leave. See you on the slopes.

Carve A Trail

Just minutes from the ski lift, this contemporary apartment is in the eye-catching Levi Kunkku building, built in 2020 and containing everything you might need for an Alpine stay in Finland – there are restaurants, bars, and even a karaoke bar. The double-height living room allows for plenty of light to stream in, while the wood-clad walls ensure there’s a cosy lodge vibe to this modern apartment in the mountains. From the living area, you can walk right out onto your very own balcony which provides fantastic views of the front slope – pick out which slope you fancy slaloming down later while drinking your morning coffee. There’s also an all-important Finnish sauna to help you unwind and undo any tightness or knots that may arise after hours out on the mountain, before heading downstairs to the on-site restaurant or bar. Don’t feel like hitting the clubs tonight? Don’t worry – this modern building has been soundproofed to ensure a good night’s sleep. After all, there’s another day of skiing to get on with tomorrow.

Modern Mountain Magic

A four-minute walk from Sport Resort Yllӓs, you’ll be snuggled up in the perfect apartment for enjoying all that holidays in Kolari have to offer. With wooden walls and partitions and Scandi-inspired furnishings, you'll get the cabin feel but in the luxury of an aparthotel. Take a breather on the balcony and admire nature’s beauty from your private platform. In the evening, sit down to dinner in the chic surroundings, and rejuvenate in the home sauna. Outdoors, adventurous possibilities await. Spend your time at the resort, skiing on the slopes, biking the mountain trails, or simply indulging on sweet treats at the wintry restaurants and cafes. 

Cocoa Bean

This stylish lodge is a winter wonderland. It’s in an authentic village in the Western part of Finnish Lapland, amidst the untamed beauty of the Pöntsövaara fell. Stunning views of the snowy landscape stretch as far as the eye can see here – you won’t have any neighbours to interrupt the vista. You’ll be in the perfect position to spot the aurora borealis from the outdoor Jacuzzi and will have a telescope for stargazing. There’s also a sauna and a huge fireplace to keep you cosy. Your host provides snowshoes and toboggans for exploring outside, and you’ll be just a fifteen-minute drive from a ski resort. 

A Winter’s Whimsy

This Kittilä cabin is the epitome of wilderness chic. Made up almost entirely of logs, you’ll find fur-lined seats next to an exposed stone fireplace in the living room. The wall art is a reminder of the reindeer that roam the evergreen Lapland forests in the area. Step out the front door and explore this tranquil wilderness on the sledges and scooters at hand. Or head out for a day of skiing at nearby Levi, which is one of Finland's most popular ski resorts – spend a day on the slopes knowing there’s a drying cabinet back home for all your wet gear. After a day of adventures, relax your muscles in the in-house sauna or get some shut-eye in one of the three cosy bedrooms. Though the setting is rustic, you’ll still have access to a few key modern comforts – there’s a TV with Chromecast and the host has provided a tablet with wifi for those who need to quickly check in with the office. 

White Reindeer

Made of ancient silver logs, this home emerges from between the quiet trees of the forest landscape as if it’s always stood there. In a peaceful part of the area close to the Swedish border, it’s in a great position for exploring the quieter town of Yllasjarvi, or the livelier resort of Iso-Ylläs. This cabin is ideal for a group of friends or families holidaying together. It’s all functional comfort and welcoming warmth, the multiple fireplaces adding extra snugness in the social spaces. There’s even a fireplace on the all-wood veranda outside. The cabin is dotted with little luxuries too. Every bedroom has its own bathroom and there’s a ski waxing room to ensure smooth gliding along the cross country trails in the area. It’s the private sauna that really tops it off for us. Throw some water on the löyly to really get the humidity going. Embrace the Finnish tradition and jump in the snow afterwards. 

Knots and Burls

Cute as a reindeer’s button nose, this log cabin sits in the Finnish wilderness. The shores of Lake Vanttausjärvi are 20 metres away where you can take a boat out in summer for a spot of fishing (a rowing boat and outboard are included with a stay here). But it’s winter when this place really comes into its own. A cosy classic cabin vibe awaits, as towering pines are laden with snow and the scenery is blissfully silent. You may even spot the Northern Lights above. As snow blankets the land, keep warm in the outdoor hot tub or with a session in the garden sauna. Then there’s the lakeside summer kitchen, which could be a misnomer as it’s heated and a delight to cook in during the winter months too. Perhaps grill some of your own freshly-caught fish in the wood fire here. 

Inside, this home has all the trappings of a traditional log cabin – antler candelabra, whitewashed log walls on display and a wood-burning stove at the heart of the home. A picture-frame window displays the snowy landscape proudly, particularly enjoyable when curled up with a cup of cocoa on the L-shaped sofa. A full kitchen provides everything you need for self-catering, and the closest shop is a ten-minute snowmobile ride (or even-minute drive) away in Vanttauskoski.
