Here you can indulge in many of the country’s favourite pastimes, be that relaxing in the sauna, fishing on the lake, or foraging for berries and mushrooms in the surrounding area. Start your day with a wild swim before cosying up next to the fireplace with a coffee in hand. As you sit under the vaulted ceiling in the sitting room, look out of the large picture windows that perfectly frame the stunning scenery beyond. Adults and children alike will enjoy playing on the sandy beach in the summer, while the snowshoes and sleds are a welcome addition during the winter months. For a truly special evening, dine al fresco under the northern lights by gathering around the dining table on the decking, before heading to the fire pit to toast marshmallows. Absolute bliss.

Set in the heart of Lapland and a 10-minute drive from Ylläs ski resort, this spot has got everything needed for fabulous group holidays. When you're not hitting the slopes, there are sledges for exploring the woods, or during summer jump into the nearby lake, just five minutes away by car. The long evenings can be spent relaxing on the balcony on the home's wicker furniture, watching the endless twilight glow - we recommend stocking up the modern white kitchen with plenty of drinks and snacks and making a night of it. During winter, the living room fire will keep you cosy, and you can watch the snow fall through the double height windows.  

Reindeer's Reach

A stay in Lapland is all about the scenery, and this place in Sallatunturi doesn't disappoint. Surrounded by pristine forest, ponds and lakes, it's in a tourist resort south of Salla. Perfect for skiers (the Salla Ski Resort is just a five-minute drive away) and for hikers (it's set in the newly formed Salla National Park), it's a stunning part of the country, just an hour and a half from Kuusamo Airport. A cabin-style, ground floor apartment in a small resort, it's a modern and super comfortable way to experience life beyond the Arctic Circle. Here, the hassles of day-to-day life melt away in the home's private sauna or in front of the wood-burning stove. Step out onto your terrace each day and breathe in the freshest of air, while breakfast cooks in the fully kitted-out kitchen. With plenty of room for a family, you can relax in the warm, timber home after a day out adventuring. Then head down to the pond where you'll find a traditional shared cooking hut. Out and about you'll find plenty to do – go husky sledging or reindeer riding at the nearby Salla Reindeer Park, visit the local war museum to learn about the Battle of Salla or go white water rafting on the Oulanka River. You may even spot the Northern Lights overhead in the evenings.

Antlers & Lichen

Near the secluded village of Ylläsjärvi, if you’re looking to escape all the noise and bustle back home you're in the right place. Part of a traditional cabin, this ground floor apartment blends wood panelling and simple Scandi furnishings to create an authentic place to experience this beautiful part of the country. Designed with comfort in mind, the living space isn't huge but there's everything you could need – including a large fireplace to gather round for winter evenings in. And outside there's a little deck for sitting out in the summer. Drive to the slopes at Ylläs ski resort nearby, set off on one of the many hiking trails from your door or head to the lake for some swimming. Whatever the season, there's plenty of natural beauty to bathe in here.

Finishing in Style

Leaving this cabin after your winter vacation is over, you’ll be eager for the cold weather to return so you can make your way back here. The slopes at Rukatunturi and Oulanka National Park’s trails are just a short trip away but you’re likely to spend most of your time at home chilling with family, relaxing in the sauna, soaking in the whirlpool bath and enjoying the ambience of staying in such a rustic, yet modern home. Make breakfast in the fully-equipped kitchen and tuck into your meal on the log table. When you feel like a camping experience, sit outside in the cooking tent, whip up your best dishes and turn dinnertime into a merry and memorable occasion. Thanks to the fireplace, the living area is always warm, so watching the next episode of your favourite series with appetisers and drinks is bound to be a daily occurrence.

Bear Cub

Like something you’d find in a Nordic fairytale, this rustic log cabin on the outskirts of Ruka, Finland, is all about getting back to nature. Surrounded by trees, the home feels at one with its forest surroundings, made entirely of timber inside and out. Cabin comfort is the name of the game indoors, with antler art, reindeer ornaments and nature-inspired art evoking traditional Finnish charm. When we think of Lapland, we think of the Northern lights, lots of snow, and cute as a button wooden chalets. And this home isn't disappointing. While we can't make any promises about the aurora borealis, we can tell you that this wooden cabin is serving up some seriously homely vibes. Set near a lake - which is perfect for summertime dips - the plot is traditionally Scandinavian. Thick tree trunks have been used to create the walls, while further wood panelling separates the bedrooms. The combined living space has got an L-shaped sofa for nights snuggled in front of the fire. A small kitchen has got everything needed for lighter meals. For those hitting the slopes, there's a communal ski waxing room to prep your equipment. And of course, what lodge would be complete without its own sauna to sweat it out after a long day?

Olaf's Adventure

A four-minute walk from Sport Resort Yllӓs, you’ll be snuggled up in the perfect apartment for enjoying all that holidays in Kolari have to offer. With wooden walls and partitions and Scandi-inspired furnishings, you'll get the cabin feel but in the luxury of an aparthotel. Take a breather on the balcony and admire nature’s beauty from your private platform. In the evening, sit down to dinner in the chic surroundings, and rejuvenate in the home sauna. Outdoors, adventurous possibilities await. Spend your time at the resort, skiing on the slopes, biking the mountain trails, or simply indulging on sweet treats at the wintry restaurants and cafes. 

Cocoa Bean

Traverse the perfect pistes and tantalising trails of Finland’s largest ski resort in magical Lapland. This cosy apartment is in an Alpine-style stone house just 150m from the main slope, so during ski season you can pretty much rise and glide. Check the weather from your living room window — if it’s a whiteout, then swap the slopes for a pamper day at one of the nearby spas or catch a movie in the local cinema. In summer once the snow has melted, the twenty-four hours of sunshine illuminate the lush green fells, while shorter winter days are for sleigh rides, snowmobile safaris and hunting the Northern Lights. After a day packed with outdoor adventures, soothe tired muscles in your private sauna. When it’s time for apres-ski activities (whether you’ve actually hit the slopes or not), there’s a restaurant on the ground floor that plays live music — don’t worry, the apartment is well soundproofed. Once you’re warmed up, you can head next door to the karaoke bar to belt out a tune, although it might take some Dutch (or in this case, Finnish) courage. If a cosy night in is more your style, then why not gather around the dining table for a homecooked meal before sipping a nightcap on the glazed balcony with a view of the pine trees.

Lap It Up

Wooden walls and floors, outdoor decking, and large sash windows give this semi-detached home an open feel – perfect for groups of friends, who don't mind having a neighbour next door (or who might want to take over both homes). The home is made of thermo log, recently built in 2019, so this is a home that takes the log cabin vibe and modernises it. In the summer, make the most of the long nights on the balcony, watching the twilight through the pine forest that surrounds the plot. Come winter, it's only a ten-minute drive to Ylläs ski resort – when you're done, get home and bag your space in the private sauna. Evenings are best spent in the living area, in front of the burning fire and watching the TV from the grey L-shaped sofa. If that sounds a bit too chilled out, ski and snowmobile trails run by the space, perfect for exploring this corner of Finland.

Lyre's Leap

Cute as a reindeer’s button nose, this log cabin sits in the Finnish wilderness. The shores of Lake Vanttausjärvi are 20 metres away where you can take a boat out in summer for a spot of fishing (a rowing boat and outboard are included with a stay here). But it’s winter when this place really comes into its own. A cosy classic cabin vibe awaits, as towering pines are laden with snow and the scenery is blissfully silent. You may even spot the Northern Lights above. As snow blankets the land, keep warm in the outdoor hot tub or with a session in the garden sauna. Then there’s the lakeside summer kitchen, which could be a misnomer as it’s heated and a delight to cook in during the winter months too. Perhaps grill some of your own freshly-caught fish in the wood fire here. 

Inside, this home has all the trappings of a traditional log cabin – antler candelabra, whitewashed log walls on display and a wood-burning stove at the heart of the home. A picture-frame window displays the snowy landscape proudly, particularly enjoyable when curled up with a cup of cocoa on the L-shaped sofa. A full kitchen provides everything you need for self-catering, and the closest shop is a ten-minute snowmobile ride (or even-minute drive) away in Vanttauskoski. 

Lappish Dream

Enter into the height of hygge living with this cosy cabin on the sprawling banks of Lake Solojärvi. Located just thirteen minutes from Inari, this lodge in the sticks has everything you might need for a tranquil getaway from the hustle and bustle back home. We love the timber-heavy interiors, striking fire and sliding glass doors that offer views of the picturesque landscape all around – as if you'd need reminding. Stepping out the front door, there's a decked terrace that leads to your very own sauna for the ultimate rest and relaxation. Whether you've been fly fishing over the river Juutuanjoki (a seven-minute drive away), hiking the Lemmenjoki national park (a twenty-six-minute drive), or taking in the breathtaking views over the sand beach right next to your home, any day is best bookmarked with a detox by the wood-burning sauna stove. Come evening, we recommend sitting out on the terrace, sipping sundowners and watching the starry night sky twinkle overhead.
